Dentists are at high risk for musculoskeletal disorders due to the nature of their work. The key to preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders is dental ergonomics — the science of fitting the work environment to the dentist. Musculoskeletal disorders involve numerous risk factors including prolonged static posture, repetitive movements, suboptimal lighting, poor positioning, genetic predisposition, mental stress, physical conditioning, and age. The key to prevention of musculoskeletal disorders is application of ergonomic principles, training and education, early intervention and healthy lifestyle changes. Key Words: Musculoskeletal disorders, Ergonomics, Dentists, Pain

Odontomas are commonly encountered benign odontogenic tumours. They are broadly classified as complex and compound odontoma. This paper describes a case of compound odontomas in paediatric patient that remained undiagnosed because of asymptomatic nature. This case was reported to the dental clinic for missing upper front tooth and compromised aesthetics. A conservative surgical approach was followed to remove odontoma. This paper also describes the rare consequence, i.e., transformation of benign odontoma to a malignant lesion, that could have led to a more complicated clinical condition if left undiagnosed and/ or untreated. Concerning the consequences, it is advised that an early diagnosis will allow the adoption of less complex treatment and better prognosis.Key Words : Odontoma ,Central Incisor ,Malignant lesion

Ectodermal dysplasia is a heterogeneous group of inherited disorder affecting two or more ectodermally derived tissues such as skin, hair, nails, eccrine glands and teeth. The disorder is of two types: Hypohydrotic ectodermal dysplasia/Christ seimens –Touraine syndrome and Hydrotic ectodermal dysplasia/clousten syndrome. Commonly associated signs include hypohidrosis, anomalous dentition, onychodysplasia, hypotrichosis. Multidisciplinary approaches are required for optimal treatment3. Here, we present two cases of 19 and 13 year old male siblings who were diagnosed with the disorder based upon their clinical features.Key Words: ectodermal dysplasia, hypodontia; anomalous dentition.

Maxilla-mandibular discontinuity produces severe cosmetic and functional deformities. There are many options available for the reconstruction of the maxilla-mandibular osseous defects. Alloplastic materials like organic calcium salts or synthetic materials such as methylmethacylate, proplast and Teflon and larger reconstruction plates, have all been used for reconstruction with varying degrees of success. At present, autogenous bone grafting is the gold standard and mainstay for maxilla-mandibular bony reconstruction.Key Words- Autogenous bone graft, Maxillary defect, Classification

Management of impacted mandibular third molars with surgical removal is a very common procedure in day-today- practicein whichever Wards or Modified Wards the incisions are performed. In some cases Envelope Flap and other such types of flaps are commonly performed. Incision, reflection of flap, osteotomy, suturing are the normal protocols which give more tissue handling, more trauma to tissue and discomfort to the patient. It also causes swelling and pain. This surgical procedure is needed in deeply seated impacted mandibular third molar tooth. But we observed in some cases of impaction, which werenot deeply seated, half or more than half the crown was clinically visible in the oral cavity. In such cases, we can modify the technique and remove this third molar with minimum invasive conservative approach. From this observation, we modified the technique for surgical removal of partially erupted third molar and inset to avoid incision and bone cutting. This paper suggests management of partially erupted mandibular third molar tooth with minimum invasive technique or conservative approach. We observed, minimum invasive procedures were causing less post-operative complications and it definitely reduces the time to perform the procedure. The prevention of incision with conservative approach is discussed in thirty patients. The purpose of this article is to present the cases that led to this observation, and present the technique modification in design and execution that we have used.[1-5]

Schwannomas (neurilemmomas) are benign tumours of Schwann cells. They can arise from peripheral, cranial, or autonomic nerves. Malignant transformation of benign schwannoma is very rare. Schwannoma is treated by complete surgical excision. In this case report, we present the demographics and clinico-pathological profile of a case of Schwannoma in the tongue. A 40-year-old male patient presented with a slow-growing swelling beneath the tongue for the past 5 weeks. On intraoral examination, a 2.5×1.5 cm mass was seen at the ventral aspect of tongue. There was no enlargement of lymph nodes. Excisional biopsy was done under local anaesthesia. Histopathological features were suggestive of schwannoma. Despite its rarity of occurrence intra-orally, a differential diagnosis of Schwanomma should be considered for proper management as it favours good prognosis.Key Words : Schwannoma, Neurilemmoma, Schwann cells, Neurofibroma.

Surgical pocket therapy entails raising a mucoperiosteal flap in order to carry out effective debridement so as to eliminate periodontal pockets and result in a healthy periodontium. Braided silk is the most commonly used suture material following periodontal flap surgery. Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives are slowly gaining popularity as wound closure agents. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the antibacterial and healing properties of cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives following periodontal flap surgery.METHODS: Patients undergoing full mouth periodontal flap surgery were randomly selected for placement of cyanoacrylates or silk sutures using split mouth study design. Wound healing was evaluated at 1 week using Early Wound Healing Index. Supragingival pooled plaque samples were collected for analysis of total bacterial count at 1week follow up using lawn cultures in blood agar. Pain and burning sensation with cyanoacrylates during and post surgery was recorded using a questionnaire.RESULTS: Silk sutures showed improved wound healing when compared with cyanoacrylates. However, use of cyanoacrylates resulted in reduced bacterial colony counts thereby exhibiting antibacterial properties. Enhanced patient compliance was noted with cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives.SIGNIFICANCE: Cyanoacrylates can be used as an alternative to silk sutures for periodontal wound closure.KEY WORDS: Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive, silk sutures, antibacterial efficacy, wound healing

One of the most challenging cases dentists face is the rehabilitation of atrophic mandibular residual alveolar ridges. Such ridges present with a multitude of problems such as decrease in the denture foundation, retention and stability. Instability of denture bases can also give rise to an error in the maxillo-mandibular registrations. The neutral zone concept aims at the construction of complete dentures in the potential denture space, which ensures optimal denture contours and physiological arrangement of denture teeth as determined by the patient’s oral musculature, to enhance the stability and function of the prosthesis. This article presents a classical technique of recording the patient’s neutral zone with an improvised clinical step to record the patient’s maxillo-mandibular relation functionally. This technique can be practised routinely in cases of atrophied mandibular residual ridges to provide the patients with optimal complete denture therapy.Key Words: Neutral zone, resorbed mandibular ridges, maxillo-mandibular records, denture stability

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) incorporates an assemblage of hereditary diseases that involve the defective formation or calcification of enamel. Also known by varied names such as Hereditary enamel dysplasia, Hereditary brown enamel, Hereditary brown opalescent teeth, this defect is entirely ectodermal, since mesodermal components are unaffected. AI is typically characterized by generalized enamel defects in both primary and permanent dentition. Amyloidosis is a disease process characterized by generalized or localized extracellular deposition of proteinacious material, amyloid. Amyloid is made up of straight, long, unbranching fibrils that stains positive with Congo red and exhibits apple-green birefringence in cross-polarized light. The tongue is usuallyinvolved insystemic amyloidosis. This article presents a case of amyloidosis involving oral cavity in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis.Key Wordsamyloid, arthritis, oral, tongue, immunoglobulin
