The present research study examines the environmental impact of an artisanal mine dedicated to the exploitation of clay in Manaure (La Guajira, Colombia). In Colombia's La Guajira region, there is no procedure to assess the sustainability of the clay mining industry. An indicator system is implemented to measure the degree of environmental sustainability in this mining sector. The methodology applied included a survey, interviews, and checklists. The clay mine is assessed with three indicators: 1) ecological footprint, 2) carbon footprint, and 3) water footprint. The results provide annual estimate values for the ecological (1.0812 kgCO2/person), carbon (282946 KgCO2), and water (3.4 L water/brick) footprints. It is concluded that the clay mine assessed has negative effects on both the environment and natural resources.

El objetivo de este estudio es definir un meta-modelo para diseñar aplicaciones de software educativo que incluya criterios de usabilidad y conocimiento pedagógico, con el fin de modelar herramientas de enseñanza fáciles de usar. Se describe conceptualmente cada elemento relevante en el diseño de una aplicación de software educativo. Se seleccionan esquemas pre-conceptuales como sintaxis para representar los elementos y las relaciones identificadas, ya que los esquemas se pueden ejemplificar fácilmente mediante el uso de instancias, son legibles computacionalmente (son ejecutables) y son fáciles de entender. Se diseña y valida el meta-modelo. Los resultados muestran que el meta-modelo mejora el diseño de las aplicaciones de software educativo. Abstract This primary aim of this study is to define a meta-model for designing educational software applications by including usability and pedagogical knowledge criteria to model easy-to-use teaching tools. Each relevant design element of an educational software application is conceptually described. Pre-conceptual schemas are selected as syntax models to represent identified elements and relationships since they can be easily exemplified by using instances and since they are computationally readable (e.g. executable) and easily understood. The meta-model is designed and validated. The results show that the meta-model improves the design of educational software applications. It is concluded that the meta-model contributes to the standardization of the design of educational software applications by ensuring the inclusion of usability and pedagogical knowledge criteria.

This study aims to determine the factors that influence purchase decision by millennials from the city of Medellin (Colombia) through virtual media, based on the theory of planned behavior. The methodology is exploratory-descriptive with a quantitative focus of correlational scope. Three-hundred-and-fifty self-administered surveys are gathered. The levels of association between the dimensions of the proposed model were quantified using Somers' D statistic. The results reveal the explanatory capacity of the model and show the factors (attitude and perceived control) that best explain millenials’ willingness to use e-commerce. It is concluded that purchase decision and conduct occurs when the user experience is satisfactory and when the service received and experienced corresponds to the expectations generated around the service.

The present study aims to characterize the impact of organizational learning (AO) and human capital (CH) on the organizational performance (DO) of upper-level secondary education institutions from the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. The methodological approach is quantitative, non-experimental, and explanatory. The sample consists of 448 teachers. Gathered data is examined by conducting exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyzes, followed by modeling of structural equations to assess the effects of AO and CH competencies on DO. The results show that learning partially mediates the relationship between human capital and organizational performance. The subjects (without distinction by campus type) equally assess the effect of the independent variables (AO and CH) on the dependent variable (DO). It is concluded that based on these results, educational authorities will be able to make decisions by focusing on enhancing teaching skills to improve institutional indicators.
