Background: The evolution of emergency departments added further complexity to the framework of nursing interventions. Understanding this evolution is vital to efficiently manage resources and ensure patients the provision of safe care. Objective: The objective of this study is to describe nursing interventions provided to patients in emergency departments. Methodology: A qualitative approach using a descriptive and exploratory methodology was employed by this study, involving two consecutive stages - (1) identification of nursing interventions using non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and a questionnaire, and (2) content analysis of the identified interventions. Results: A total of 1,429 interventions were identified and categorized into 24 dimensions. The most commonly observed interventions were Administration of medication, Clinical assessment, Collection of biological specimens, Management of clinical information, and Maintaining the department’s functioning. Conclusion: The identified interventions show nurses’ broad range of practices that surpass direct patient care, encompassing the management of workflows and clinical information. The study finding emphasize the significance of further understanding nursing interventions for the optimal management of emergency departments.

Background: Surgical site infection affects one-third of surgical patients. Its incidence varies according to multiple factors. Objective: To analyze risk factors for surgical site infection in patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery. Methodology: Analytical cross-sectional study with 589 patients who underwent major orthopedic surgery between 2020 and 2021. Information on the patient, the surgery, and the compliance with bundles was collected from the Sclínico platform using a registration grid. Favorable opinion of the Ethics Committee (No. 46/2022). Results: Twenty-three participants (3.9%) developed surgical site infections. They were mostly men (56.5%), aged 57 to 78 years (60.9%,) with a high body mass index (91.3%), hypertension (73.9%), smoking habits (14.09%), heart failure (9.3%), and tremor (33.3%). A statistically significant association was found between surgical site infection and smoking, heart failure, tremor, duration of surgery, postoperative time, and type of surgery. Conclusion: The frequency of infection was significant in patients with smoking habits, heart failure, tremor, and longer surgical and hospitalization times. We recommend reducing smoking, controlling heart failure, and decreasing surgical and hospitalization times.

Methodology: Cross-sectional study with 291 nursing workers. Four instruments were applied Socio-demographic, occupational and health questionnaire; Maslach Burnout Inventory; Stanford Presenteeism Scale; Work Limitations Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, association tests, and logistic regression, respecting the significance level of 5%. Results: Burnout syndrome was associated with dual employment, diagnosis of anxiety associated with depression, and smoking. Burnout syndrome was also associated with loss of productivity, both overall and in all specific domains. Conclusion: Burnout syndrome is linked to occupational and health aspects and presenteeism, resulting in loss of productivity. Understanding the impact of these phenomena contributes to designing effective prevention strategies.
