Background: The person with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis has a complex drug therapy regimen to follow, both in the control of the symptoms caused by the disease and in the control of comorbidities. Objective: To assess the level of adherence to the drug treatment in CKD patients on a hemodialysis program. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive-correlational and cross-sectional study, based on the application of the Measure of Treatment Adherence scale (MTA), to a sample of 101 people with CKD, undergoing hemodialysis. Results: The sample had a mean score of adherence to the drug treatment regimen of 5.32 ± 0.47, with a maximum value of 6. The dichotomous pattern of the scale, based on the median, classifies 82.18% of the sample ( n = 83) as adherent and 17.82% ( n = 18) as non-adherent. A statistically significant relationship of adherence was found as a function of some clinical variables: number of pathologies and daily medication. Conclusion : The percentage of non-adherents to the drug therapy regimen calls for improvement actions and highlights the importance of continuous assessment of adherence levels.

Background: The identification of delirium by nurses extremely relevant. The Portuguese version of the Nursing Delirium Screening Scale (Nu-DESC) is a tool that can be used in this setting. Objective : To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Nu-DESC in a surgical context. Methodology : Methodological study with patients aged 65 years or older with a diagnosis of proximal femur fracture. Three assessment tools were used to analyze the agreement between the results. Results : In a sample of 81 patients, the sensitivity of the Nu-DESC was 92% compared to the Con-fusion Assessment Method (CAM) and 91% compared to the application of the DSM-5 criteria. The specificity of the instrument was 98% compared to CAM and 94% compared to the DSM-5. Cronbach’s alpha ranged between 0.86 and 0.89 Conclusion : The evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Nu-DESC in a surgical context confirmed the validity and reliability of the instrument. The results show that the scale has a high sensitivity and specificity for assessing delirium .

Background: Chronic wounds represent a growing health problem in several countries. Ethnobo-tanical and preclinical studies suggest that copaiba oleoresin ( Copaifera sp.) has healing properties. Objective: To evaluate the clinical application of copaiba oleoresin in chronic wound healing. Methodology: Retrospective case series study consisting of 6 participants with chronic wounds treated with 7% copaiba oleoresin with sunflower oil or 10% copaiba ointment. The primary endpoint was the percentage reduction in wound area at the end of follow-up. Results: Mean age of participants was 54.5 ( SD = 11.5) years. The causes of wounds were vascular ( n = 3), surgical ( n = 2), and traumatic ( n = 1). All participants had a reduction of the wound area ranging from 15.5% to 100% during the follow-up (8 to 15 weeks). No complications were observed. Conclusion: Treatment with copaiba oleoresin proved to be an effective and safe option in chronic wound treatment.

Informal caregivers and patients with palliative care needs are essential for a successful home-based care experience. However, little is known about the care process between informal care-givers and these patients. Objective: To identify the factors that influence the care process between informal caregivers and patients with palliative care needs at home. Methodology: Meta-synthesis following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. We included qualitative studies with informal caregivers and/or patients with palliative care needs at home. We searched MEDLINE, CINHAL, Embase, and Scopus databases (2009-2021). Results: Thirty studies were included, with 605 participants. Eight main themes emerged: facilitating factors of informal care; complicating factors of informal care; strategies used; the influence of time in care; the influence of disease progression in care; motivations to provide home-based care; continuous learning; and caregiver’s roles. Conclusion: Informal care is a dynamic process where facilitating/complicating factors, strategies, and disease progression are interconnected. The results contribute to understanding the care process and designing person-centered, flexible, and context-sensitive care plans.
