Mastering the mother tongue at school is essential for both academic and life success. It depends on many factors, including self-regulation, i. e. the ability to control one’s thoughts and behaviour. In this study, we assess the influence of conscious self-regulation, executive functions (inhibition, switching, working memory updating, and error monitoring and control) and intelligence on Russian language competences and Russian language annual grade in a group of Russian middle school children. Through structural equations modelling, we found that both categories of regulatory predictors, i. e. conscious self-regulation and executive functions, are related to academic performance in the native language. Both predictors make an indirect contribution to the annual grade in the Russian language. In the case of self-regulation, fluid intelligence acts as a mediating variable. Executive functions influence the annual grade through language competences, which also significantly contribute to the general performance. Executive functions also have an impact on self-regulation, confirming their status as the neurocognitive basis of self-regulation. Of the self-regulatory functions, Goal Planning, Modelling, Results Evaluation, and regulatory personality traits of Flexibility and Initiative have the greatest impact on the native language academic performance. We revealed the effect of «excessive flexibility», that is, an increase in number of errors at high values of the executive function Switching attention. Links to recent findings as well as directions for future research are discussed. The results can be used to improve academic performance in native language and emphasize the importance of developing conscious self-regulation at school

The article examines the problem of humanitarization of educational activities at the university by means of using mediation for conflict resolution, and the creation of a psychologically comfortable educational environment, ensuring social and emotional security of the individual. The purpose of the study is to identify and substantiate humanitarian potential of mediation as a psychological and pedagogical phenomenon that initiates cooperation of the actors of the educational process to prevent and resolve conflicts in training and professional activity. Such cooperation and interiorization of culture of mediation contribute to the students’ personal and professional development. The authors analyze and identify the essential characteristic features of interrelationship of mediation and humanitarization as an integrative phenomenon contributing to the development of university cultural and educational environment. The research outcomes lay the ground for developing a model and describing organizational and pedagogical conditions for humanitarization of the university activity by means of mediation. This article presents a survey analysis carried out among students and teachers of Siberian Federal University. The purpose of the survey is to study the state and identify the prospects of humanitarization, implement the institution of mediation at the university, assess students’ and teachers’ interest in humanitarization and mediation, and the opportunities of their integration

The Ukrainian distance education market is less than 15 years old, so it is clear that it is just being formed and has not yet encompassed educational institutions in large quantities: schools, institutions of professional and higher education, postgraduate institutions. But today, during the COVID‑19 pandemic, for the modern education system, the issue of transforming the forms and methods of teaching, in particular, its rapid and massive transition to distance learning, is relevant. In order to understand what consequences the system of higher and postgraduate education can expect, studies are being carried out in different countries to study the perception of distance learning, its effectiveness and the prospects for mass application. The article examines the perception of distance learning in the system of advanced training of public servants and teachers, as well as students of Ukrainian higher educational institutions. The results of the study showed that the vast majority of public officials, teachers and students quickly adapted to the new form of education and actively use domestic web platforms for distance courses and various online distance learning systems. At the same time, only a small part of the respondents believe that the level of knowledge they receive through distance learning is lower than in the «face-to-face» format, and a significant part of adults are always ready to study remotely, although the majority of respondents consider it effective and useful for myself a mixed form of study

The study was conducted in the Botanical Garden of Petrozavodsk State University (South Karelia, the middle taiga subzone) from April to October during 1988–2016. The following representatives of the genus Picea were investigated: four introduced species (Picea glauca (Moench) Voss [syn. P. canadensis Britt.], P. pungens Engelm. f. viridis Regel., P. obovata Ledeb., and P. mariana Britt.) and one native species (P. abies (L.) Karst.). The growth of P. abies shoots starts 1–4 weeks earlier and ends 1–3 weeks later compared to the introduced species. The earliest culmination of shoot growth is observed in P. glauca and P. obovata and the latest in P. abies. The longest shoots are formed by P. abies. The growth dynamics of shoots differs considerably between the introduced species and the native species. The dates of the beginning and the culmination of the shoot growth in the studied species are to a certain extent affected by the temperature of the air. P. abies needles begin to grow 1–2 weeks earlier than the needles of the introduced species. The earliest culmination of needle growth is observed in P. obovata and P. glauca and the latest in P. pungens. P. abies and P. pungens show the largest needle length increment, while in the other species, it is 2–4 times smaller. The longest needles are formed in P. pungens and P. abies. There is a noticeable difference in needle growth dynamics between the introduced species and the native species. The dates on which needles begin to grow are largely determined by the temperature of the air. The temperature of the air and solar radiation produce a substantial effect on the time of occurrence of most phenophases in the studied Picea species. P. pungens and P. glauca were found to be the most promising spruce species for residential landscaping and creation of artificial plant communities in Karelia

The relevance of the study is determined by the socio-cultural complexity of the educational space of modern Russian universities. The purpose of the article is to analyze the peculiarities of values formation among students of modern Russian universities. To achieve this goal, it is also necessary to test one of the possible methods for measuring the value attitudes of Russian university students based on a questionnaire using the author’s list of questions. The methods of field work in the universities of the regions of the Siberian Federal District with the help of on-line technologies: questionnaires and statistical processing of the data obtained were used. The method of critical analysis of modern pedagogical concepts was applied. Licensed IBM SPSS software was used to identify statistical patterns and correlations of field study results. 504 questionnaires of undergraduate and graduate students of the universities of the Krasnoyarsk Krai, the Republic of Tuva, the Tomsk Oblast, the Irkutsk Oblast, the Republic of Khakassia, the Novosibirsk Oblast, the Omsk Oblast, and the Altai Krai were surveyed and processed. The features of values formation related to the value of communications have been recorded: 1) contrary to the stereotypes about the prevalence of the values of virtual communication in certain age categories of students, only 2.7 % prefer exclusively virtual communication. The share of the respondents who prefer direct communication with people is quite high – 42.6 %. In the age group from 17 to 24 years, this share is slightly less and amounts 40.7 %. Exclusively virtual communications in this age category is chosen by 2.1 % of the respondents; 2) the symbolic mediators of the value environment of students are changing: for 78.6 % of students shopping and entertainment centers are preferred places for spending their free time, in the age group from 17 to 24 years this share rises to 80.4 %; at the same time, libraries reduce their influence on the value perceptions of students: only 16.5 % of the respondents visit libraries in their free time, in the age group from 17 to 24 years this share is slightly higher and amounts 16.6 %; among social networks, the social network Vkontakte has the highest value of a symbolic mediator for Russian students: 94.2 % of the respondents of all age categories use this network for communications; for the age group from 17 to 24 years this share is even higher and amounts 96.3 %; 3) the technological base for the formation of students’ value perceptions is changing, Internet technologies are used both for entertainment and for reading books by 59.5 % of students, in the age category from 17 to 24 years this share significantly prevails and amounts 64 %. Modern multicultural space is a result of globalisation processes at all levels of human activity. However, a complex of tendencies towards unification gives rise to academic interest in the study of language in the aspect of its functional characteristics as a way of forming ethnocultural entity of a linguistic community. Dialects are a specific language subsystem, which has its own unique units for the process of nomination of persons, artifacts and natural facts of the surrounding reality. Due to its sphere of functioning, the word-formation formant –уш/а is a linguistic unit that is used by the dialect speakers for an alternative to the literary language way of creating nouns denoting plants, animals, and fish. Derivative words with such a suffix represent the value paradigm, verbalised through the relevant for a person qualities of objects, such as taste, colour, shape, place of growth, and functional properties. The appeal to dialectal derivative vocabulary with the archaic suffix, which is not currently used in the literary Russian language, gives an opportunity to describe the cognitive processes of the linguistic creativity of the Russian-speaking population in terms of its typical and unique features

The article analyzes the originality of the ethnocultural dynamics of the Krasnoyarsk Territory in the context of artistic practice. The general dynamics of ethnic groups inhabiting the Krasnoyarsk Krai from the early 17th century to the early 21st century is shown. At the same time, within the framework of this dynamics such stages pre-Soviet, Soviet and post-Soviet were identified. A general characteristic of the creativity of Krasnoyarsk artists who worked in the selected periods is given. Within the framework of the philosophical and art history analysis, the works of D. I. Karatanova, Yu. P. Ishkhanov and S. E. Anufrieva as the most representative for each period and, at the same time, allowing to consider creativity in its various forms (painting, sculpture and ceramics) were selected and studied in detail. This study examines the problem of the development of students’ universal competencies at Russian universities related to the diversity of cultures and the ability to enhance intercultural communication in professional field and everyday communication. The development of this competency is significantly influenced by the content of the cultural memory of students. Modern universities are a multicultural space where various persons and communities with different collective cultural memory interact. The objective of the study is to identify the functional features of the students’ cultural memory at Russian universities that are historically characterised as a multicultural space. The main method involved focus groups and a theoretical interpretation of the data obtained. The results obtained from two focus groups of students from several universities located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory are presented. The total number of focus group participants was 14 bachelor’s and master’s degree students. The focus groups consisted of students belonging to the first- and second-generation migrants from among ethnocultural groups with high ethnodemographic dynamics in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The study showed the need for special programme activities for adaptation and integration of students belonging to the second-generation of migrants into the multicultural university community
