The award system of Indonesia reflects its state developments, including the formation and transformations of the Indonesian Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). The Republic of Indonesia was formed as a result of its struggle for independence against the Netherlands Colonial Empire. Many islands of Indonesia, their equatorial and tropical climate, as well as technical backwardness of the Indonesian society in the 1940s were among the main factors of the guerilla warfare against the Dutch. Guerilla squads were the main part of the People’s Security Army (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat), later named the Republic of Indonesia Army (Tentara Republik Indonesia). Its victory over the Dutch in 1949 helped instituting of the first Order of Indonesia — Bintang Gerilja, or Bintang Gerilya in modern spelling — The Guerilla Star. The paper sums up the laws and acts of the Indonesian State concerning the Guerilla Star, as well as the data from open sources, like media and Wikipedia, about its awardees. These data are checked through the official reference books issued by the Service of History of the Indonesian Army (Dinas Sejarah Angkatan Darat). The paper focuses on the statute, description and bestowals of the Guerilla Star of Indonesia. The Order is an award to all Indonesians who fought for their Independence against the Dutch. The form of the Guerilla Star is like the Gallipoli Star of the Ottoman Empire. In 2009, the statute of the Guerilla Star was changed by the Indonesian Government. Now it may be bestowed for any guerilla defense of Indonesian interests.

The article is devoted to the philological analysis of poetic passage from the apocrypha «The Investiture of Archangel Michael», which wasto be read on the feast day in honour of the Archistratigus. Coptic hymnography, although derived from Greek, has become distinctive; several collections of ancient hymns are known. The peculiarity of the so-called «angelic hymn» is the fact that it is not included in any collection, but is included in a literary text. The article provides the first Russian translation of this hymn. It differs in style from the entire narrative of «The Investiture». It is sung by Michael himself with the angels. The hymn is framed by references to the righteous and consists of eight stanzas. It, like the text itself, is preserved in three versions, two in Sahidic dialect (manuscripts of the 9th century) and one in Fayymic (manuscripts of the 9th-11th centuries). Anaphora, lexical repetition and parallelism are used in hymn. The three versions identify the following themes: feast, meal and mercy. Analyzing the structure of the hymn, one can conclude that it was preserved in all three versions. However, a study of the themes and literary devices involved shows that in each version of hymn the accents are set in an original way. The inner link between the parts of the hymn can be traced. The passage itself is also logically integrated into the overall narrative. The main distinguishing feature of all the hymns is that some phrases are so brief that the listener is left with a great deal of room for interpretation and conjecture. For a more accurate understanding it is necessary either to know other versions of the hymn, or to refer to the stories in «The Investiture». The apocrypha also stresses the importance of hymn singing. It suggests that the congregation participated in the singing of the hymn during the reading of the text on the feast day.

This article analyses an image from the work of Polish-born Israeli artist Naomi Judkowski (Zofia Rosenstrauch) in juxtaposition with a work done by Russian artist Eufrosinia Kersnovskaya. The study aims to compare two art works of two women with different backgrounds who both suffered under two oppressive regimes. One of the founders of the Ghetto Fighters kibbutz in Northern Israel with its known museum and archive dedicated to the Holocaust memory and education, Naomi Judkowski was an important voice in the Israeli post-war society. Not only her drawings were used as the state of Israel put Eichman on trial, but she also wrote a memoir of her experiences in Auschwitz-Birkenau available for the future generations. At the same time, Eufrosinia Kersnovskaya represents unique evidence to the experience of forced labour and deadly conditions in the Soviet GULAG. Her memoir together with 680 drawings reached the audience in 1990 when it was published by Russian and foreign periodicals. Despite the importance of these works, none of them has received the proper attention to this day. However, in the works of both authors, one can clearly see the “unique female language” that served as an expression of feelings and emotions in response to the sexualized humiliations perpetrated by the men against these two women. The works of both artists are characterized by a realistic visual language and were created out of a need for emotional expression, making the viewer witness their experience.

The essay centers on the outstanding Algerian French language writer, Mohammed Dib, and his last book ‘Laёzza’, which became a ‘confession of the soul’ by a man who had foreseen his impending death and wished to narrate, in a free form of short stories and autobiographical sketches, his life and spiritual experience, his perception of the surrounding world and destinies—of his native Algeria and his second home, France. Dib’ s writings and his last work are contemplations on the fate of the Maghreb people who had been long living in the West, as well as the French who have been understanding more and more that the problems of ‘integration’, ‘multiculturalism’ and other doubtful achievements of the former metropolitan power vis-à-vis the formerly colonized people, have been linked to such ‘postcolonial products’ as riots, terrorism and various other grades of the ‘time of anger’, for a long time emerging in the now independent ex-colonies. Many things foreseen by the writer at the beginning of the millennium came to be true nowadays, and thus in his farewell book he had not only reminisced about the past or contemplated upon the present, but also forecasted the future.
