Introduction: One of the possible applications of ceramic thermal barriers is in shells (permanent moulds – die casting). The moulds` capacity to support very high temperatures (up to 1600 °C) plays a crucial role in the selection of materials due to the liquid state of the cast iron. Objectives: This paper presents and discusses the obtained results from robotic flame projection tests, carried out with the purpose to quantify the influence of several factors of flame sprayed in the adhesion strength of coatings of Nickel-Aluminium-Molybdenum and Zirconium Oxide. In literature a minimum adhesion strength was not found for the application of thermal ceramic barriers in the coating of permanent casting moulds, so in this work it is intended to obtain its values considering several combinations of projection parameters and substrates. Methods: The determination of the adhesion strength was performed according to the standard ASTM C633-79 where the coated test specimens were glued to CK45 steel against-specimens with a cyanoacrylate glue (LOCTITE 415). A weight of 100 N was then applied for 3 minutes to promote the initiation of the polymerization reaction of the cyanoacrylates and a period of 24 hours was needed so the bonded glue could acquire its maximum strength (sufficient enough to tear off the coating of the specimen). Finally tensile tests were carried out at the speed of 1 mm/min. Results: The main parameters studied are the material of the substrate, the projection angle and the substrate preheating temperature. The higher adhesion strength for the sprayed to 90° (average value of 6.2 MPa) was obtained by the specimens of spheroidal graphite cast iron (SGCI) with a preheating temperature of 120 °C. For the preheating of 90 °C and spray angle of 90° the aluminum-copper (AlCu) and brass specimens were the ones that obtained the higher adhesion strengths (average value of 4.5 MPa). The sprayed of 65° originates the higher adhesion strength in all the materials used for the substrate, being the highest value (average value of 8.3 MPa) obtained by the spheroidal graphite cast iron. Conclusions: The results obtained clearly suggest that the substrate material and the preheating temperature strongly influence the adhesion strength. The analysis of the coatings microstructures, using optical microscopy, supports this observation.

Introduction: Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are allegedly preparing students for a globalized working area where people will need to be ready to communicate effectively in one or more foreign languages in international working environments, which puts a lot of pressure on how foreign languages (FL) are learned in Higher Education (HE). Methods: This article explores how a FL or learning through a FL could be approached in HEI, focusing mainly on what employers claim in terms of skills of recent graduates or on-the-job workers. Case studies are used, combining interviews to employers and questionnaires to HE students to find out their perceptions on FL learning requirements for greater employability. Conclusions: A series of recommendations are made for HEI on how to promote students’ employability skills; on the best practices for the development of intercultural communicative competence and FL skills to communicate effectively in international or digitally-mediated working environments; as well as on how to prepare the teaching staff for emerging trends that involve using a FL as medium of instruction or CLIL, a content and language integrated approach. These testify to the importance of learning a FL or through a FL, as well as the need to combine transversal skills development in connection to FL learning.

Introduction: Within Portuguese schools the Head of Department is an intermediate manager, a supervisor and a leader who must be capable of playing a leading role and demonstrating the appropriate communicative skills so that he can mobilize the teachers who are part of his team to fulfill their educational ideals. For this reason, pedagogical supervision takes on a prominent role in the activities he has to develop. Objectives: To know how teachers at the several levels of education, other than that of Higher Education, perceive head of department’s performance within the current Portuguese school organization and of some factors that can influence that performance, notably the specialized training in pedagogical/instructional supervision. Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional methodology was used using a survey carried out through the application of a questionnaire. The sample was composed of 106 teachers from all academic departments who were working in a school grouping located in the Viseu district. The data collected were subject to a descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Results: The teachers seem to value the promotion of an articulated work between the different teachers of the academic department to which they belong and between teachers from different departments, the creation of encouragement actions that would foster a reflection on their teaching practices and an openness to change and innovation. They also consider that the Head of Department should promote collaborative work, as well as generate and share knowledge. However, they state that the Head of Department’s workload and the consequent lack of time to respond to all requests that his position requires may have a negative influence on his performance. Conclusions: The Heads of Academic Department should assume the need for training in their activity to ensure legitimacy and credibility in the most wide-ranging aspects and dimensions, both at a personal/relational level, and at a professional level.

Introduction: In recent years, it has been found a significant increase in the incidence of human neoplasias worldwide, which is also one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in pets, highlighting the mammary tumors as neoplastic process that most affects our animals. Objectives: To analysis of the current paradigm of neoplasias in pets; Promoting awareness of tutors and professionals of the animal health team for a more assertive management, in particular with regard its detection and early exeresis. Methods: Retrospective study contemplating a sample of dogs (n=20) and cats (n=12) with mammary masses submitted to surgical excision and histopathological diagnosis. Results: In the analyzed sample, was observed a higher frequency of breast neoplasms in dogs of undetermined breed and Common European breed cats, with the mean age, for both species, close to 10 years of age. There was also a higher frequency of malignant breast neoplasms, 75% in bitches and 66.7% in the cats, in relation to the benign ones. Conclusions: It was possible to verify that, in the region of the country contemplated in this study, more malignant mammary neoplasms were diagnosed than benign ones, probably motivated by the late surgical excision of large mammary masses, sometimes ulcerated.

Introduction: Fiberboard panels present great advantages in furniture manufacturing despite their inherent flammability. This problem will be solved by treating those panels with the right fire retardant (FR) additives. Objectives: A set of high density fiberboard went through several hot pressing operations in order to study the influence of this procedure on the substrate properties. Methods: The experimental plan was developed for three different temperatures of 95 °C, 180 °C and 210 °C and two different pressing times (22 seconds and 35 seconds) for each. The panels were made out of pine fibers (Pinus pinaster) and had an average density of 930 kg/m3 and were 6.7 mm thick. Results: The results indicated that the post-manufacture hot-pressing of the FR-treated HDF panels led to a slight improvement in the modulus of elasticity (MOE) and in the bending strength of the panels used as substrates. A decrease in the moisture content and in the fiberboards’ thickness and an increase in their density and in their thickness swelling was observed as higher temperatures and longer pressing times were applied to the panels. Conclusions: There was also a slight decrease in the internal bonding strength of the panels due to the presence of the flame retardant which leads to a decrease in the bonding capacity of the resin. Conclusions: There was a slight improvement in the properties of the substrate except in the fiberboards’ internal bonding strength which experienced a slight decrease due to the interference of the fire retardant.

Introduction: The adverse experiences in childhood and adolescence, as well as the exposure to domestic and school stress factors, can affect the health of children and adolescents. Considering that the education, health and security agents might not be aware of the problematic situations regarding children and adolescents, it is justifiable the investigation in that field. Objetives: To evaluate the psychometric properties, namely the factorial structure and the internal consistency, of the "Inventory of problematic situations involving children and adolescents" Methods: Study of descriptive nature, with transversal focus, analytical-correlational analysis and methodological correlation preformed of the "Inventory of problematic situations involving children and adolescents" on a sample of 136 education, health and security agents. Results: The internal inventory consistency study confirmed Cronbach's alphas, among the items that constitute it, classified as good, ranging from α = 0.791 to α = 0.822, with an overall alpha of 0.819. Their structure confirmed the presence of two factors: Factor 1 - Types of violence involving the child / adolescents in school context (α = 0.837) and Factor 2 - Risk factors for mental health (α = 0.639). The educational agents identified the highest risk factors for mental health in which a higher average was observed (M = 77.09 ± 25.72). The study of the explanatory effect of socio-professional variables on the perception of problematic situations involving children and adolescents by educational agents reveals that age (Factor 2 - Mental health risk factors p = 0.015), marital status (types of violence that (p = 0.027) and the area of professional exercise (risk factors for the mental health of children and adolescents p = 0.008, types of violence involving the child / adolescents in the school context p = 0.018). statistical relevance. Conclusions: The results show that the "Inventory of problematic situations involving children and adolescents" presents a factorial structure with satisfactory results of validity and reliability, which results in the possibility of its application, as a research instrument, to evaluate the perceptions educational agents have problematic situations involving children and adolescents.

Introduction: The shift in dietary patterns of citizens will have a larger environmental footprint, in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and the use of natural resources. For example, diets high in milk and meat, particularly from ruminants, is associated with increasing emissions of methane from enteric fermentation, carbon dioxide from deforestation for pasture, and nitrous oxide from feed production. Objectives: For a more sustainable consumption the aim of this study was to quantify and compare the contribution to climate change of one portion of what you eat overall coming from the shelf of Food Wheel related with meat, poultry, fish and eggs to achieve a healthy, balanced diet. Methods: Life Cycle Assessment, based on ISO 14040/44 standards was the methodology used. The inventory analysis and, subsequently, the impact analysis were performed using the software SimaPro 8.5. The method chosen for the environmental impact assessment was IPCC 2013 GWP 100a. Results: The results show that a mackerel (fish) portion presents the lower ecological footprint followed by a portion of codfish, chicken, pork tenderloin, eggs, lobster and cow tenderloin, respectively. Conclusions: The main conclusion of this study is that life cycle impact assessment, using the IPCC 2013 GWP 100a, is a method that can help the people to choose the best food for a meal that is more environmentally friendly helping to mitigate the climate change.

For example, diets high in milk and meat, particularly from ruminants, is associated with increasing emissions of methane from enteric fermentation, carbon dioxide from deforestation for pasture, and nitrous oxide from feed production. \u0000Objectives: For a more sustainable consumption the aim of this study was to quantify and compare the contribution to climate change of one portion of what you eat overall coming from the shelf of Food Wheel related with meat, poultry, fish and eggs to achieve a healthy, balanced diet. \u0000Methods: Life Cycle Assessment, based on ISO 14040/44 standards was the methodology used.

Introduction: The prevalence of falls increases with age and with the level of frailty associated with aging. With demographic aging, it is estimated an increase in falls and their consequences. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of falls and their consequences. Methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study. Performed in a probabilistic sample, randomly selected, with an estimated frequency of 50% and with an acceptable margin of error of 5% and a confidence level of 95%. Results: The study was performed in a sample of 321 elderly people, 54.5% of whom are female and 45.5% are males and with a mean age of 76.11 ± 6.79 years. The prevalence of falls was 45.5% in the 12 months prior to data collection, and 21.5% in the last 3 months. Among the elderly who fell, 68.5% suffered injuries, abrasions (32.9%), fractures (16.4%) and bruises (15.8%). Conclusions: Falls are a problem in the elderly and often cause physical consequences. We recommend studying the impact of falls in the elderly from a psychological and social aspect.
