Hypersonic missiles combine the speed of ballistic missiles along with the accuracy and maneuverability of cruise missiles. By traveling at hypersonic speed in the atmosphere, blunt nose of missile experiences great surface heating and a large amount of drag. This drag force can be minimized by implementing a structure known as aerospike. This spike is attached in front of the body that significantly changes the flow field and manipulates aerodynamic drag at hypersonic speeds. In the current paper, the effect of implementation a flat-disk aerospike for various L/D (Length to Diameter) ratios is investigated by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. The CFD analysis is performed to study the effect of drag, lift and pitching moment coefficient onto the blunt body with and without implementation of an aerospike. However, the addition of a flat-disk aerospike in front of the blunt body has an advantage for the reduction in drag subjected to angle of attack but increase in pitching moment has to be taken into consideration.

Advanced next generation optical networks demands all optical logic devices as the key element. In this paper, the mechanism of co-propagating MZI configuration along with SOA is opted to design the universal gates and execution of various Boolean expression are carried out with the aid of proposed NAND, NOR and NOT gates. The two non-linearity property XGM and XPM of SOA is exploited to obtain logic outputs, optimum values for the design of logic gates are obtained by varying different modulating signals and operating wavelength. Correct logic functions and high quality of the output signals can be achieved and proved with the help of extinction ratio, clear eye opening diagram and bit error rate (BER) measurements.

In competitive electricity market, congestion is a serious economic and reliability concern. Congestion is a common problem that an independent system operator faces in open access electricity market. This project presents a reliable and efficient meta-heuristic based approach to solve congestion problem. The proposed approach of the present work employs Firefly algorithm (FFA) for alleviation of transmission network congestion in a pool based electricity market via active power rescheduling of generators. FFA is a new meta-heuristic approach based on flashing patterns and behaviour of fireflies. Various important security constraints such as load bus voltage and line loading have been taken into account while dealing with congestion problem. The proposed methodology may help in removing the congestion of line with minimum rescheduling cost. The numerical results of modified IEEE 30-bus test power systems are illustrated.

Image thresholding is a common pre-processing procedure implemented in various domains to improve the picture quality. In this work, thresholding of benchmark RGB-scale picture is implemented with the Jaya Algorithm (JA) and Shannon’s Entropy (SE). The investigational work is executed using Matlab7 software on RGB pictures of varied sizes. This work examines the original and the noise stained pictures based on the chosen threshold. In order to assess the performance of JA+SE, Picture-Quality-Measures (PQM) are computed by comparing the original and thresholded pictures. The average outcome confirms that, JA+SE provide better PQM values in both the normal and noise corrupted cases. Hence, this study confirms that, pre-processing with SE helps to attain better values of the error and PSNR values for the considered images of different size and quality.

The present analysis is concerned with the determination of the magnetic field distribution and eddy current loss in a heavy ferromagnetic core by linear theory. An analytical method is used to solve a simple one dimensional rectangular coordinate diffusion equation governing the H field using Robin boundary condition which is the combination of Dirichlet and Neumann boundary condition. For linear analysis, different choices of Permeability are chosen to compute eddy current loss and the results are compared with the experimental value.

Encryption algorithms form the basis of any secure transmission between two interacting parties. Keeping this in mind, in the following paper, we present a secure payment system that utilizes an encryption algorithm that we have developed and integrated within the rules of the SET protocol. As should be in any payment system, security is our top priority and maximum emphasis has been laid on encrypting the user details and preventing cracking. We have done so, by increasing the length of cipher text as compared to any traditional encryption algorithm used in payment systems, while keeping the encryption and decryption time as well as the throughput within permissible limits. The algorithm we are using is based of Jumbling Salting encryption algorithm. A number of modifications have been made to the initial form of the algorithm and the resultant has been used.

This paper deals with the issue of system wake up latency as a consequence of power gating techniques. There are different architectures proposed to reduce the power inside the IPs (Intellectual property) like clock gating and power gating, Still system level IDLE power gating is a bigger concern. According to the nature of the system, multiple system states are created based on power and IDLE conditions. Another drawback of the power gating is system wake up latency which will be impacting the system performance. Here in this paper we have introduced an innovative way to reduce the system latency by a new power architecture flow with a calibrated ring oscillator clock and ran all power management operations on the newly generated clock. The overall impact in performance, power and area will also be discussed in this paper.

Influence of an MSW leachate on the geotechnical Characteristics (index properties and unconfined compressive strength) due to artificial contamination on five soils (two commercial soils and three natural soils) were investigated by soil-column studies by using fed-batch method. It is inferred that the leachate has played a unique role in influencing the index properties, especially, the shrinkage limit of soils. The strength of soils found to reduce by about 20 %, within the period of contamination.

This study was undertaken to research the effects of coir fiber content, in conjunction with chemical stabilization. Water content and dry density of reinforced and unreinforced soil on the strength influence mechanism by implementing a series of laboratory tests and analysis. The meaning of this study is to evaluate the effect of these fibers and cacl2 in stabilizing of expansive soils by improving its unconfined compressive strength behaviour. The effect of length (15mm), amount of coir fiber (1.5,2.0 and 2.5% dosage by dry weight of soil) and cacl2(0.25,0.50 and 1.0% dosage by dry weight of soil) were used. The efficient results is obtained in favourable combination of 2.5% coir fiber + 0.5 Cacl2 into expansive soil specimen prepared at maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. Test specimens were tested with compaction tests, free swell, unconfined compression strength test (UCS). Specimens were curing for 1, 7 and 14 days with portable water, after which they were tested for unconfined compression tests. Based on the favorable results obtained, it can be concluded that the expansive soil can be successfully stabilized by the coir fiber and cacl2.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a retinal disorder that affects the people having diabetes mellitus for a long time (20 years). DR is one of the main reasons for the preventable blindness all over the world. If not detected early, the patient may progress to severe stages of irreversible blindness. Lack of Ophthalmologists poses a serious problem for the growing diabetes patients. It is advised to develop an automated DR screening system to assist the Ophthalmologist in decision making. Hard exudates develop when DR is present. It is important to detect hard exudates in order to detect DR in an early stage. Research has been done to detect hard exudates using regular image processing techniques and Machine Learning techniques. Here, a deep learning algorithm has been presented in this paper that detects hard exudates in fundus images of the retina.
