espanolEl trabajo se propone realizar una caracterizacion sociodemografica de la poblacion de Montevideo durante la Guerra Grande, incorporando el analisis espacial a traves de los Sistemas de Informacion Geograficos (SIG) en la explicacion historica. Para ello se utilizan fuentes demograficas y cartograficas: un padron de poblacion de 1843 y dos planos topograficos de la ciudad de Montevideo (Ciudad Vieja y Ciudad Nueva) del mismo periodo. Las fuentes permiten acercarnos a una sociedad conmovida por el reciente aluvion inmigratorio y por los conflictos politicos rioplatenses. EnglishThis article aims to carry out a socio-demographic characterization of Montevideo’s population during the Guerra Grande incorporating, into the historical explanation, a spatial analysis through Geographic Information Systems (GIS). To do so, we used demographic and cartographic sources, an 1843 population register and two topographic maps of the city of Montevideo (Ciudad Vieja and Ciudad Nueva) from the same period. The sources enabled us to approach a society shaken by the recent flood of immigrants and the political conflicts in the Rio de la Plata.

This paper aims to explore possible meanings of the right to the city concept within the frame of shared meanings of a number of urban social movements that do not explicitly voice this notion. Through qualitative research and in-depth interviews, we have found some elements that make us doubt its conceptual and explanatory relevance to understand these organization’s demands. Instead, we propose to analyze these grievances as the expression of a language of rights.

The governors’ trips to rural towns represented an innovative way of public and political intervention revealing new ways of politicizing these areas. The visits paid by the highest city authorities involved the development of policies intended to get a closer view at local issues, and they also helped enhance their public image. The negotiation maneuvers adopted could reflect the beginning of a gradual acceptance of the political other as well as the elite´s interest in dismantling the warrior society initiated by the independence process.

La nota integra un proyecto de investigacion sobre redes de ventas de tierras en un Departamento de Chile entre 1820 y 1850. Se busca identificar los intermediadores en una de estas redes y explicar su funcion como articuladores. La informacion notarial se proceso a traves del software UCINET, midiendo el indicador de intermediacion. Los resultados destacaron a los medianos propietarios como los principales intermediadores. Se concluye la relevancia de esta intermediacion en la distribucion de informacion tacita sobre los limites y derechos asociados al uso de la tierra.
