Institutional Open Repository Approach in Accessing and Sharing Scientific Knowledge: The Case of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University 获取和共享科学知识的机构开放知识库方法:以安卡拉大学为例Yıldırım Beyazıt

The aim of this study is to determine the level of awareness of Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU) academicians in terms of open access, open science and institutional open repository and to develop recommendations for more effective utilization of the institutional open repository. Moreover, it is also aimed to develop and expand the use of the AYBU’s open access policy in the light of new developments in open science. Within the scope of this research, the description method was carried out and a questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. The survey was sent to 1,152 academicians working in the AYBU in 2018; and 225 academicians answered it. Collected data analyzed with the IBM SPSS Statistics Package. The results of the study showed the level of awareness of academicians about open access and the level of utilization of the AYBU institutional open repository were found out low. However, it was depicted by the results that the majority of the academicians actively benefited from Internet technologies in accessing information and supported the idea of access to information with no charge. Nevertheless, the rate of supporters of open access to information is higher than those who want to share the information they produce with open access. It was also found out that the vast majority of academicians want to be informed about the institutional open repositories. It can be claimed that it is necessary for the AYBU management to cooperate with the Department of Library and Documentation to inform academicians of AYBU about the institutional open repository. They should be supported and encouraged by the management for the use of open repositories. Sustainability of information activities and inclusion in the continuing education process will lead to a more functional progress of the process.

Greek and Spanish Undergraduate Perspectives on Academic Librarianship, Within and Beyond Library Science Curricula 希腊和西班牙本科生对学术图书馆事业的看法,内外图书馆学课程

Library and information science undergraduate programs’ adequacy to prepare new information professionals has become the topic of an ongoing debate, with opposing arguments about curricular structure and focus. Within this context, this study, forming part of ongoing doctoral research, analyzes students’ opinions on how to enhance library school curricula to effectively respond to academic librarians’ new roles and functions. By repositioning the lens on the practical and experience-driven student perspective, away from standard educational practices, the researchers pilot-tested a library science student survey. The mix-methods, student co- developed, survey instrument was tested with a small self-selection sample of future information professionals in Spain and Greece. The study’s goal was to contribute to the limited body of research concerning students´ perceptions and awareness about library science education. Survey participants were provided the opportunity to critically evaluate their library school undergraduate programs’ responsiveness to the changing academic librarianship landscape. Responses, analyzed by using descriptive statistical and inductive thematic techniques, revealed a limited academic librarianship related content in library and information science curricula. Furthermore, results highlighted a reserved optimism with respect to the library’s prospects of upgrading its role in the university, an ambivalence towards librarian’s future roles, and a diffuse skepticism around the system’s potential to grasp the opportunities that the new information and communication technologies offer. The merit of the study resides in both the diversity of participants’ insightful comments and the use of a student validated survey instrument making them active contributors to the library school program’s assessment process. Dissimilar to stereotypical research projects, this initiative opens a different perspective to program evaluation and its subsequent alignment with academic library stakeholders’ needs. method, the use of a student-validated survey instrument, and the collection and analysis of the rather limited, at this exploratory stage, but quite illuminating participants’ feedback. Creating Makerspace in School Libraries in Nigeria: Implications and Challenges 在尼日利亚的学校图书馆创建创客空间:影响和挑战

Libraries of all types are expected to be places where knowledge and skills are acquired. This paper attempts to look at the implications and challenges of creating makerspace in school libraries in Nigeria. Makerspace creates avenue for students to identify their talents/skills, satisfy their curiosity, bring their imaginative ideas to life and emerge with quality products to show. The paper rests on the theory of constructionism propounded by Seymour Papert which stipulates that learning occurs in the students head. The paper also rests on the theory of participatory culture and learning which simply means that students come together in a social space, put their hands to work and come out with great products. The paper identified the implications and challenges of creating makerspace in school libraries in Nigeria and concluded that there is a need to have makerspace in school libraries in Nigeria as this will create route of networking among students.

‘Total quality management in academic libraries, private archives and ephemera’ in his work on ‘Librarian Yasin Şesen’ written by ‘Total Quality Management in University Libraries: Middle East Technical University Library Example’ titled the book, by distinguished academic and professional publishing, which was released in the year 2018. Book contents; ‘history of university libraries, service quality of academic libraries, total quality management in academic libraries, examples and reflections of total quality management in university libraries, total quality management in Turkish public administration, case study of Middle East Technical University Library, case study of university library, libqual quality management system, servqual quality management system, Middle East Technical University Library Quality Represantation and ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System on the Middle East Technical University Library’ have been extensively evaluated with examples of general literature.

Collection development policy is the document text which defines the size of the existing collection of a library, maintains or plans development of sources, reveals the power of the collection, displays the relationship between the selection philosophy and general purposes of the institution, and results as a product of freedom of thought. The collection is expected to be suitable for the user in terms of quality and quantity and, in this respect, each public library is expected to have a collection development policy. With this in mind; the structure of collection development services, the condition of the collection development policies at the provincial and district public libraries, and opinions and ideas of directors and personnel in provincial and district public libraries on collection development policies were evaluated within the scope of the survey carried out. In this context, the publication is aimed to evaluate basis for collection development processes in Turkey Selection Regulations as well. Descriptive method and survey technique were used in the research. SPSS 18 program was used to evaluate the data. Percentage values, frequency and Chi-square statistic calculations were used to analysis the data. As a result of the research, the conditions that exist in the public library development policies, the problems have been tried to be defined and a road map for solving these problems has been tried.

Yucel Dagli is a precious name who can integrate technology with classical archival works and share his experiences in this subject with other people. Yucel Dagli, who has been working as a lecturer in the Department of Information and Records Management in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Marmara University, was known to have dedicated his life to science. In this study, two years after the death of Dagli, his colleagues Evangelia BALTA, Yorgos DEDES, Emin Nedret IŞLI and M. Sabri KOZ prepared the book “In memory of Yucel Dagli; came Yucel, gone Yucel, like a breath…” is introduced.
