GPS receivers are frequently used for engineering activities in forests; however, a number of factors, including natural barriers (mountain and tree canopy) in the forested areas, affect their accuracy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of a consumer-grade GPS (Colorado 300) receiver in road mapping. For this purpose, a length of 12.2 km of main forest road was selected in the Hyrcanian forest, northern Iran, and a ground truth map was extracted from the National Cartographic Center maps. The forest road was mapped in four seasons for three days to evaluate the seasons’ effects on the location accuracy and five- and ten-meter buffers were used for the same purpose. The results of two-way ANOVA showed that there were significant differences in the precision and accuracy of the GPS receiver due to the season. The best and worst mean accuracy and precision were in spring (24.45 m and 24.97 m) and autumn (56.10 m and 53.65 m), respectively. The findings showed a positive effect of averaging (5-61% improvement in relation to season) on the position accuracy. Also, ANOVA did not show any significant differences between the overlay lengths due to season in both the five-and ten-meter buffers. It can be concluded that consumer-grade GPS receivers could meet forestry needs. The averaged accuracies in spring are acceptable for many forestry applications and satisfy the mapping requirements.

Wooden-columned mosques constitute a major structural group in Turkish mosque architecture. Inspired by the abundance of forestation in the region in which they were built, the mosques that made use of wood boasted of rich architectural ornamentation. It is the aim of this study to offer a presentation of Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Mosque, one of the wooden-columned mosques that were widely constructed in the Anatolian Selçuk Era, taking their place in Anatolian Turko-Islamic architecture. A product of the local master builders of its time, the structure was included in UNESCO’s List of Provisional World Heritage Sites. In this context, the paper will describe the characteristics and elements of the layout of the Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Mosque, its structural system, roof structure, and the distinctive features of the materials and adornments used.

We established that first-grade baking wheat flour quantitatively prevails in the composition of “Domashnee” cookies, while the oatmeal mixture prevails in the composition of “Premium” cookies. The main carriers of nutritious and functional components are oatmeal and the dry mixture based on it. Taking into account the results of nutritional tests of both types of cookies, we consider flour-based “Domashnee” cookies to be the most adequately balanced sample in terms of protein, fat, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, amino acid scores and the amount of minerals (zinc, copper, calcium, manganese) and vitamin В1.

In this work, the influence of the number of dowels and the option to place the dowels in the cross section of part on the bending moment capacity of heat-treated wood dowel joints was analysed. The joints, which were made of heat-treated ash, were tested by means of a universal testing machine.The ultimate failure load and the moment arms were used to figure out the bending moment capacity of the joints loaded in compression or in tension. The number of dowels affected the tensile strength of the L-shaped heat-treated wood joints. The modality to place the dowels in the cross section of rail, namely, in collinearity or in a triangular shape, did not significantly affect the strength of the heat-treated wood dowel joints.

This study is aimed at investigating the global trend in research activities involving seafood and antibiotics based on published research output articles. Peer reviewed articles published in the last two decades involving seafood and antibiotics were searched on the Scopus database using the search words “seafood” and “antibiotics’’. The retrieved data were then analyzed based on the total research outputs, countries and affiliation of authors, sources of funding, keywords used by the authors, citations and collaborations using both add-on analytical tool, Microsoft Excel and VOS viewer for data visualization. A total of 447 research outputs by 710 authors affiliated with 1173 institutions from 74 countries using 1051 keywords were obtained. Original research articles accounted for the highest percentage (87.7%) and published across 166 different peer-reviewed journals. Most of the original research articles were published in the International Journal of Food Microbiology 27(16.3%). Khan, A. A. from the Division of Microbiology; National Centre for Toxicological Research, United States, was the most productive author with 10 (2.2%) publications while the National Natural Science Foundation of China was the highest funding institution with 22 (4.9%) and the United States of America was the most productive with 91 (20.4%) research outputs followed by China with 70 (15.7%) research outputs. Over the last two decades (1999 – 2019), there has been an exponential (r2=0.91) increase in seafood and antibiotics related research activities. The majority of these research activities were from America, Asia and Europe. There is need for international scientific collaboration between the leading researchers and researchers from developing countries in seafood research to help mitigate food loss, enhance food security, and increase the productivity of early career researchers.

This article reviews the problem of measuring the actual radius of curvature for curved sections of existing forest roads, as forestry enterprises require reliable technical information about the current conditions of operated transport networks. It was identified that at this moment, a selection of methods are used for measuring the radii of horizontal curved sections of roads, which have certain advantages and disadvantages in specific natural production conditions. For calculating the radius of curvature for auto forest road projects it is recommended to apply the method of measured angles by chord angle deviation, which is sufficiently accurate for engineering purposes and does not require usage of special high-precision equipment and tools.

The article is devoted to the problem of the reduction of tubers mechanical damages while providing qualitative indicators of the potato heap separation process. Theoretical and experimental dependences of the influence of design and kinematic parameters of the machine operation on the quality performance are obtained. Within the field of experimental studies, a field installation was made to investigate the potato harvester as a whole on the efficiency of separation, the degree of damage, the magnitude of losses and the total capacity for aggregation. Comparison of the results of theoretical and experimental studies showed that the developed mathematical model of the process of separation of potato heap is adequate.

The goal of this research is to evaluate the influence of the polyphenols extract of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. root on the lipid oxidation, chemical properties and sensory characteristics of ground beef during frozen storage. Beef was ground in aqueous solutions of polyphenols extract at different concentrations: 830, 415, 277, 208 and 166 mg GAE/L, polyphenols solution/sample ratio is 1/20 (v/w). Then, the ground beef was stored for up to 100 days at -20±2oC. The best oxidation inhibitor for ground beef was at the highest polyphenols concentration of 830 mg GAE/L. All quality parameters (pH, PoV, MDA, color parameter and sensory evaluation) of the treated sample and of the control sample display significant differences (p<0.05) during storage period. For this reason, it was concluded that the polyphenols extract of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. root could be used as an alternative source of natural antioxidant in beef processing.

Beef was ground in aqueous solutions of polyphenols extract at different concentrations: 830, 415, 277, 208 and 166 mg GAE/L, polyphenols solution/sample ratio is 1/20 (v/w). Then, the ground beef was stored for up to 100 days at -20±2oC. The best oxidation inhibitor for ground beef was at the highest polyphenols concentration of 830 mg GAE/L. All quality parameters (pH, PoV, MDA, color parameter and sensory evaluation) of the treated sample and of the control sample display significant differences (p<0.05) during storage period. For this reason, it was concluded that the polyphenols extract of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. root could be used as an alternative source of natural antioxidant in beef processing.","PeriodicalId":38505,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Brasov, Series II: Forestry, Wood Industry, Agricultural Food Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74478485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
