The present article tackles the issue of the unity and cohesion of the world as it is evoked by Lucretius in the De Rerum Natura. Through this work, we would like to show that the philosopher offers an original solution to this question by using a biological model: the organic unity. This model plays a dual role, both critical and descriptive. First, it replaces what Lucretius identifies as ‘false models’ of the union and cohesion of the world: the model of the world as living based on the theory of the soul of the world, the model of the world as divine, rested on demiurgic and providential theories and finally the model of the world as principle, elaborated from the thesis of the eternity of the world and its parts. Then, by evicting these three models of explanation and description of the cohesion of the parts of the world, based on a bad definition of the nature of the world, the Lucretian biological model proposes a re-description of the unity of the world which is compatible with the Epicurean cosmological theses of the plurality of worlds and of the mortality of the world.

This paper offers a preliminary study of MS Atheniensis EBE 1089, a neglected lexicographic and grammatical miscellany consisting of several different sections, to be dated between the 13th and the 15th century. Among other texts, this manuscript transmits Phrynichus’ Eclogue and Moeris’ Lexicon. After providing a survey of the contents of this codex, the first part of the article deals with some of its main material features, with a description of its different sections and the scribes who copied them. Additionally, it is argued that the codex as a whole was the product of a single ‘editorial’ project carried out by a certain Μᾶρκος, active in the middle of the 16th century. The second part of the article offers a philological analysis of the folios containing the lexica of Phrynichus and Moeris; that gave the occasion to develop some new thoughts on their texts and manuscript traditions.

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo describir la codificación de los argumentos en las lenguas huarpes —millcayac y allentiac—, y para ello se centra en la determinación de su locus de marcación y el tipo de alineamiento. Con respecto al locus, se observan varios sistemas conviviendo en el estadio de la lengua descrito por Luis de Valdivia, pues en ambas lenguas se observa un alineamiento escindido en construcciones flagging, entre nominativo-acusativo y neutro, y secundativo e indirectivo; mientras que en la indexación, uno de tipo nominativo-acusativo y otro de tipo secundativo. Finalmente, respecto al proceso diacrónico, consideramos que las lenguas huarpes habrían presentado un predominio de la marcación a través de flagging y que habrían estado incorporando paulatinamente construcciones de indexación de argumentos en el momento en que Valdivia las registró, posiblemente como resultado de la influencia de las lenguas andinas circundantes, sobre todo del quechua. De hecho, de esta última habría recibido la marca de caso -ta y el morfema de objeto pu-.

A pesar de la brevedad de su vida, Abraham Valdelomar (Ica, Perú, 1888-Ayacucho, 1919) logró escribir una obra extensa y variada en la que cultivó casi todos los géneros literarios. Resulta significativo que en esta obra apenas tocara el tema de lo afroperuano, pese a que él pertenecía a esa filiación étnico-racial. Valdelomar desarrolla este tema en “Reportaje al Señor de los Milagros” (1915) y “Sobre la psicología del gallinazo” (1917). El propósito de este artículo es analizar las representaciones sobre el afrodescendiente y su cultura que ofrecen ambos textos. Nuestra hipótesis sostiene que estas representaciones no logran alejarse del protocolo de descripciones que Occidente ha utilizado para suturar la identidad del afrodescendiente, el cual es definido como un ser jerarquizado e inferior.
