Visual communication effectiveness of a 3D building directory system: Case of the Joseph Wibowo Center Campus 三维建筑目录系统的视觉传达效果:以Joseph Wibowo中心校园为例

The 3D-based technology for web-based application development has gain wide attention recently and emerged as an alternative for its 2D-based counterpart technology. Although numerous studies have been reported on developing web-based applications based on 3D technology, however, to the best of our knowledge, little is known on evaluating its visual communication efectiveness of this technology for a directory system in a university campus setting. This paper presents a case on the performance comparison between 3D directory system and 2D directory system in terms of visual communication effectiveness. Visual communication effectiveness of the building directory system is measured using time needed to learn overall building layout and time needed to find the predetermined location of interest. In this research, it is assumed that effectivity variable was only depends solely on the chosen technology to develop directory system. The tested 3D and 2D directory systems in this research are based on the Joseph Wibowo Center Campus building layout. The experiment involving volunteers found that the 3D directory system caused reduction of about 25% of time to learn the building layout in compared to that using its 2D counterpart. For locating a place, 2D directory system caused increase of about 6% time to locate the location of interest in compared to that without directory. While, 3D directory system caused reduction of about 19% time to locate the location of interest in compared to that without directory.

Wireless sensor network for single phase electricity monitoring system via Zigbee protocol 基于Zigbee协议的无线传感器网络单相电力监测系统

Development of audit and energy management system in the industrial automation and intelligent building installation has been observed over many years. Electrical energy monitoring system is now using real-time measurement facility via wireless network applications. In this paper we consider an application of star topology wireless sensor network for single phase electricity monitoring system based on Energy Meter IC ADE7753. Zigbee is used as wireless protocol. It has many benefits such as low cost, low power, low data rate, and supports on mesh-networking IEEE 802.15.4. For web-server monitoring system, Ext-JS framework is used as client-side programming which is integrated with IDE Arduino. Statistically, for sample of 30 data measurement, it is shown that current measurement gave guarantee of accuracy value until 5.3μArms with average precision error of 0.03%, and voltage measurement gave guarantee of accuracy value until 226.5μVrms with average precision error of 1.23%. Effectively, data measurement occurs in the intervals of 10 seconds and a transmission maximum of 40 meters with barrier and 60 meters without barrier.

Co-operative sensor fusion using time warping in multimodal tomometry for process control 基于时间翘曲的多模态测量协同传感器融合过程控制

Recent studies in process tomography have mostly focused on image processing and enhancement of images obtained from Electrical Capacitance, Electrical Resistance, Electrical Impedance, Gamma- and X-ray- tomographic modalities. In the process industries, there is a growing need for fast acting measurement and control procedures, architectures and their implementation within existing sensor and control suites. With this industrial relevance, a multimodal tomometric sensor fusion is studied involving pressure and capacitance measurements in a two phase flow rig. Pressure is measured using standard pressure sensors, whereas the capacitance are measured using arrays of capacitance electrodes placed on the periphery of a section of the pipe in the multiphase flow rig. These capacitance measurements are performed by using ECT-modules. In this paper, the focus is on early slug detection and timely characterization of these slugs formed in the two phase flow. To associate simultaneous occurrence of slug based phenomena in the time series of the pressure and ECT-signals, dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithms are used. The usage of DTW and the multimodal tomometric sensor suite with pressure and ECT-modules leads to a co-operative sensor data fusion, which can help to identify characteristic features of slugs in two phase flows, which can be significant inputs to the process control unit in the assessment/implementation of necessary actions, such as activating choke valves, reducing pump outputs of one or more of the phases flowing in the rig. Time series of pressure and ECT-signal are studied using DTW and results are compared and fused with some discussions on how these could be used in process control.

Mobile grid data access for high resolution weather information services 高分辨率天气信息服务的移动网格数据接入

Weather information provider provides accuracy, speed and appropriate information to different basic needs of the users. Unfortunately, service providers that meet those three criteria are still rare (especially in developing countries). The combination of PC-Cluster, NWP and GDS can be used as a low-cost solution in providing weather information which meets those three criteria. Although the features of the resulting information service (web service, GDS and User defined data access) assist users in accessing weather information, but improvements still need to be done especially in terms of publication of the service.

Active vibration control using pole placement method of a flexible plate structure optimised by genetic algorithm 基于遗传算法优化的柔性板结构极点配置方法的振动主动控制

Active vibration control (AVC) of flexible structure has given remarkable attention in recent years due to its importance in engineering applications. This research investigates the application of system identification to model a dynamic system of flexible plate structure for active vibration control purpose. A second order ARX model optimised by genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to represent the dynamical system and then feedback controller using pole placement method is exploited to stabilise the system and attenuate the disturbance vibration. The result indicates that pole placement method has capability to ensure the stability of the system while suppressing the disturbance vibration of flexible plate system.

The saturated quaternion control law with application for spacecraft formation flying 饱和四元数控制律及其在航天器编队飞行中的应用

Rotation matrix parameterization using unit quaternion can represent attitude globally. However, it is not unique and may generates the unwinding phenomenon, besides the issue on the globally asymptotically stability guarantee. This paper proposes a piecewise-continuous scheme of quaternion-based control law that employs a saturation element such that would avoid the unwinding phenomenon. This paper also proposes a consensus control scheme based on the saturated quaternion control law that would show the property of the unwinding phenomenon avoidance and the corresponding graph only need to have a directed spanning tree.

Neuro-fuzzy methods for slug detection and control in multi- phase flow based on differential pressure and electrical capacitance tomometry (ECTm) 基于差压和电容的多相流段塞检测与控制的神经模糊方法

Avoidance of slug flow is of paramount importance in processes involving multi-phase flow. As one of many safety measures, modelling based prediction of flow regime and identifying inflow conditions favourable for slug flow is done in the chemical, process industries, and refineries and in the exploration for and production of oil and gas. These efforts are all meant to develop methods to deter any catastrophic run-away phenomena in these diverse processes. Multitude of parameters associated with the multi-phase flow can affect the results from such simulations. However, these algorithms are still not robust enough to tackle real time control of these processes. The end-user needs a timely indication of some critical parameters so as to control or shut down a process to avoid process calamities. This paper focuses on data fusion of sensor data from an array of capacitance transducers arranged on the surface of the pipe with multi-phase flow along with differential pressure (DP) sensors. The capacitance-based measurements are from a electrical capacitance tomometric module. By studying the time series of the capacitance values logged in continuously from this array of capacitive sensors and DP, slugs can be identified and their parameters quantified. Neural network using self-organising maps (SOM) is used to classify the slugs in a rapid manner giving a good overview of the slugs and their parameters. Important parameters such as slug size, frequency and velocity can be estimated using neuro-fuzzy techniques thus facilitating a model free approach (MFA) for the control of the complex process of multiphase flow.

However, these algorithms are still not robust enough to tackle real time control of these processes. The end-user needs a timely indication of some critical parameters so as to control or shut down a process to avoid process calamities. This paper focuses on data fusion of sensor data from an array of capacitance transducers arranged on the surface of the pipe with multi-phase flow along with differential pressure (DP) sensors. The capacitance-based measurements are from a electrical capacitance tomometric module. By studying the time series of the capacitance values logged in continuously from this array of capacitive sensors and DP, slugs can be identified and their parameters quantified. Neural network using self-organising maps (SOM) is used to classify the slugs in a rapid manner giving a good overview of the slugs and their parameters. Genetic modeling of a rectangular flexible plate system with free-free-clamped-clamped (FFCC) edges 具有自由-自由-夹紧-夹紧(FFCC)边缘的矩形柔性板系统的遗传建模

This paper presents the performance of system identification of a rectangular flexible plate structure using Least Squares, Recursive Least Squares and Genetic Algorithms techniques. The input - output data are collected through an experimental study using a vibrational flexible plate experimental rig complete with data acquisition and instrumentation system. The experimental rig of two clamped and two free edges (FFCC) flexible plate were fabricated and used throughout this research. All the models developed using Least Squares, Recursive Least Squares and Genetic Algorithms were validated using one step-ahead prediction (OSA), mean squared error (MSE) and correlation tests. It was found that the estimated models using all methods proposed are comparable, acceptable and possible to be used as a platform of controller development and verification to suppress the vibration of flexible plate structure in the future work. Amongst all, it was found that the Genetic Algorithm has performed the best as compared to other methods in estimating the first mode of vibration which is the dominant mode of the structure with 3.63% error. However, for overall estimation, the Least Squares algorithm has achieved the lowest mean squares error (0.00019725) as compared to the Recursive Least Squares and Genetic Algorithms performance.

A modified PID algorithm for dynamic control of an automatic wheelchair 一种用于自动轮椅动态控制的改进PID算法

This paper presents the implementation of dynamic control of an automatic wheelchair. The control objective is to control the velocities of the left and right wheels to follow the desired velocity commands. The equations of motion of the wheelchair are derived. The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control algorithm is applied by utilizing incremental encoders as the feedback of the velocities of both wheels. The analysis of the closed-loop system shows that the PID algorithm is applicable to control the velocities of the wheelchair. The PID parameters are tuned based upon the open-loop Ziegler-Nichols method. In the implementation, the control algorithm is modified by limiting the input rate to prevent the windup. The experimental results show that the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Parameter optimization of a Sludge Drying Plant for processing capability improvement 提高污泥干燥装置处理能力的参数优化

The Sludge Drying Plant (SDP) is the final processing facility of Effluent Treatment System (ETS) that produces bio-sludge cake before it is sent out for final disposal. Due to the process disturbances the amount of dry solid is reduced tremendously. The principal objective of this study is to perform a parameter optimization for the SDP through identification on the current performance through actual process data analysis and identification of the subsystems for optimization. On disposal, Kualiti Alam will charge the dried cake sludge based on the weight, not on the content; therefore it is only sensible to export the dried cake at maximum dryness. Optimized controls for the SDP ensures that a maximum weight percent solution (wt%) is squeezed out through complex computing from available process parameters, which in return would incur a potential cost avoidance for this oil and gas processing plant more than RM1million annually.
