Two species are newly reported for the Arabian Peninsula and eight new records for the Sultanate of Oman. Brief comments are provided on the phytogeography and ecology of these species. Most new records have been made from the botanically very poorly known or unexplored mountainous areas of northern Oman, including Musandam and poorly collected areas in Dhofar. These additional records raise the total number of known taxa in the national flora of Oman to 1417.

A TAXONOMIC REVISION OF THE MADAGASCAR-ENDEMIC GENUS BEMANGIDIA (SAPOTACEAE), WITH DESCRIPTION OF A SECOND SPECIES

Bemangidia L.Gaut. (Sapotaceae) is a genus endemic to a restricted area in the southeastern lowland moist evergreen forests of Madagascar. It was published in 2013 to accommodate an undescribed species, Bemangidia lowryi L.Gaut., which showed a combination of characters unique in the family Sapotaceae. At the time of description, three atypical collections from the same locality but growing on a ridge, slightly higher in altitude, were already known. Although matching well with the Bemangidia genus, they were phenotypically different from B. lowryi and were therefore not included in the species description. In the present study, we evaluate whether these specimens correspond to a new species, using a combination of morphological and genetic data based on 638 nuclear genes. The results show that Bemangidia contains two lineages, each one corresponding to a different morphology, with a genetic branch length similar to those observed among species pairs in other genera of Sapotaceae. We conclude that the genetic and  morphological differences are sufficient to consider the two lineages as two distinct species. Consequently, the genus is here revised and a second species described.

A TIME-CALIBRATED PHYLOGENY OF VERBESINA (HELIANTHEAE – ASTERACEAE) BASED ON NUCLEAR RIBOSOMAL ITS AND ETS SEQUENCES 基于核核糖体序列和ERS序列的verbesina( heliantheae - asteraceae)的时间校准系统发育

Verbesina L. is a genus of the tribe Heliantheae, subtribe Verbesininae (Asteraceae), with distribution in the Americas, where Mexico and the Andes harbour the richest concentration of species. The approximately 325 species in the genus are shrubs, subshrubs, trees and rarely herbs. Despite its high species diversity and biogeographical importance, the only available phylogenetic hypothesis for Verbesina was based on chloroplast DNA restriction site data. In the present study, nuclear ITS and ETS DNA sequence data were used with an expanded taxon sampling, particularly among the South American Verbesina species, to improve phylogenetic resolution and support, clarify infrageneric relationships, and resolve biogeographical questions in the genus. The results of our new analysis corroborate the monophyly of Verbesina, but its current classification into 12 taxonomic sections, based on morphological characters such as phyllotaxis, head size, corolla colour, and presence of ray flowers, is not congruent with the molecular phylogeny, in which most sections are polyphyletic. We also show that Verbesina diverged in the late Miocene of North America, about 8 Ma. At least two independent Pleistocene dispersals into South America across the Isthmus of Panama and along the Southern Andes are evident, beginning around 3.23 Ma (1.27–3.23 Ma) in the Middle Pliocene, and resulting in an extra-Amazonian distribution of the genus inSouth America. Diversification in South America began around 2.83 Ma with occupation of the Andes. Colonisation of Brazil is  estimated to have occurred around 2.15 Ma, from Andean lineages.

The only Mahonia species found in Cuba is investigated. Although known since the nineteenth century, it has previously been identified as Mahonia tenuifolia (or its synonym Berberis fraxinifolia), otherwise found in Mexico. The Cuban species is shown to differ inter alia from the Mexican species by its leaf shape and texture, shorter racemes and pedicels, and greater number of ovules. The habitat and distribution of the species are described. Mahonia tenuifolia and Berberis fraxinifolia are also lectotypified.

A new micro-endemic species of Rhododendron is described and illustrated from botanical expeditions to the Victoria-Anepahan  Mountain Range on the island of Palawan. It closely resembles Rhododendron wilkiei but differs in having leaves with laminae that are  narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate, have adaxially indistinct venation, and are arranged in 4–8 active and mostly terminal pseudowhorls  along the length of the stem; bracts without scales on the margin; yellow flowers with a red corolla tube interior that is densely hairy  towards the base; and hairy anther filament bases. Morphological and geographical data place the species in Rhododendron sect.  Schistanthe. The new species, together with a first record of Rhododendron vidalii on Palawan as part of this research, represent the  tenth and eleventh members of this genus recorded from the island. A revised key to the Palawan species of Rhododendron is provided.
Schistanthe。
