Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma is an epithelial malignant neoplasm that shows squamous cell differentiation characterized by the formation of keratin. The incidence of oral cancer is still increasing and almost all oral cancer patients are found when they are at an advanced stage. One of the factors that can cause this delay in diagnosis is the dentist who is not careful in routine oral examinations or does not have sufficient knowledge about malignancies in the oral cavity. In fact, if oral cancer is detected early, it will prolong the patient’s survival and the prognosis will be better. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge of dentists regarding the early detection and diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity. Methods: This study was conducted using an online questionnaire to 106 dentists in the city of Medan. Respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique, namely respondents who were studied based on predetermined criteria. Results : From the results of this research, as many as 56.6% of respondents have a good level of knowledge, 41.1% of respondents who have a sufficient level of knowledge and 2.7% of respondents who have a low level of knowledge. Conclusions: Dentists’ knowledge of early detection and diagnosis of OSCC is included in the good category, although there are some respondents who have sufficient to less knowledge.

Introduction: Chronic hypertrophy tonsilloadenoiditis is an inflammation of the adenoids and tonsils that usually occurs children, it also a common cause of upper respiratory tract obstruction, causing patients breathe through the mouth. This situation can cause dentocraniofacial deviation, especially in children because they still in the age of growth. This study aimed was to determine the risk of chronic hypertrophy tonsilloadenoiditis with the shape of the head, face shape, and the proportion of faces. Methods : This study was a cross sectional analytic study involving 45 research subjects, consisting of 22 patients diagnosed with chronic hypertrophy tonsilloadenoiditis and 23 normal patients. Data were analyzed using chi-square and odd ratio analysis. Result : patients who were diagnosed with chronic hypertrophy tonsilloadenoiditis as much as 31.8% has a head shape with uneven values (p = 0.140 with OR 3.111), 77.3% has facial morphologies with uneven values (p = 0.001 with OR 9.633), 68.2% had a disproportionate proportion of faces (p = 0.099 with OR 2.786). Conclusion : hypertrophy tonsilloadenoiditis can be a risk factor for dentocraniofacial growth disorders with the highest risk of facial shape changes.

Introduction : Incision is a common practice in dentistry. The standard treatment for incisional wounds is suturing. Suturing can hold injured tissue well but may be uncomfortable for some patients. One alternative method of suturing is tissue glue. A common material used for tissue glue is 2 octyl-cyanoacrylate. The use of this material is quite comfortable but has the risk of causing inflammation as in suturing. Wound healing sheet (WHS) tissue glue based on Aloe vera extract and chicken egg albumin is expected to be an alternative method for healing gingival incisions. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of WHS in healing gingival incision wounds. Methods : A total of 24 male rats (Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain) with incised gingiva were divided into 4 groups, K1 (negative control without treatment), K2 (positive control with suturing treatment), K3 (WHS concentration of 50%), and K4 (WHS concentration of 100%). The treatment was carried out for 7 days. The data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA and followed by Post Hoc LSD. Results : The percentage values of wound healing from the highest to the lowest were K4, K3, K1, and K2. The values for the number of fibroblasts from the highest to the lowest were K4, K3, K2, and K1. The results of the p-value (p < 0.05) showed that there was a significant difference between the sample groups in the two data. Conclusion : Wound healing sheet made from Aloe vera leaf extract and chicken egg albumin is effective for healing gingival incision wounds.

Introduction : Pain is an sensory and emotional unpleasant experience because of tissue damage. Secondary metabolites of flavonoids and steroids from Trembesi (Samanea saman (Jacq.) Merr.) leaf extract have a function as analgesics by inhibiting inflammatory mediators so the release of arachidonic acid and the action of the cyclooxygenase enzyme is blocked. This study aimed to analyzed the analgesic effect of Trembesi leaf extract on white mice (Mus musculus). Methods : This experimental laboratory study used a simple random sampling technique with 30 mice samples divided into 5 groups. Trembesi leaf extract used was dose of 25 mg/kgBW, 50 mg/ kgBW, 100 mg/kgBW, negative control CMC.Na 0.5%, and positive control Acetosal, given oral to each group, then induced pain with 1% acetic acid intraperitoneally. Number of stretching mice was observed every 5 minutes for 30 minutes, then the percentage of analgesic effectiveness was calculated by comparing the percentage of analgesic protection of the test group to the percentage of analgesic protection of the positive control group. Results : Trembesi leaf extract at a dose of 100 mg/kgBW gave a great analgesic effect, 76.62% compared to Trembesi leaf extract at a dose of 25 mg/kgBW (24.63%) and 50 mg/kgBW (49.34%). The significance value of the Kruskal Wallis test results is 0.001 so it can be interpreted that there is a significant difference in the analgesic effectiveness of Trembesi leaf extract between groups. Conclusion : There is an analgesic effect of Trembesi (Samanea saman (Jacq.) Merr.) leaf extract on white mice (Mus musculus).

Introduction: Orthodontic treatment aims to achieve an ideal occlusion and a harmonious facial configuration. The ideal proportion of face in various area must be known for a data source in establishing a diagnosis and making the right treatment plan so that the orthodontic treatment achieves the best results. This study aimed to measure facial index based on Angle’s classification of malocclusion on Deuteromalay Subrace. Method: This research was a descriptive study with cross sectional approached. The research population were undergraduate students of Faculty of Dentistry, Padjadjaran University, Deuteromalay Subrace. The sampling method was total sampling with the inclusion criteria of samples were the descendants of the Acehnese, Minangkabau, Sundanese, Javanese, Balinese, Bugis, and Makassar ethnic groups. The facial index value was calculated from the height of the face divided by the width and then multiplied by 100. Results: The total sample was 115 people consisting of 17 men and 98 women. The facial index value data based on Angle’s classification of malocclusion in this study for men was 6 malocclusion subclasses with 4 different facial types, for women was 6 malocclusion subclasses with 5 different facial types. The most Angle’s classification of malocclusion in men and women were class I type 1 and the most facial types were mesoprosopic in men and euryprosopic in women. The average facial index in men was 87.28 and women was 84.16. Conclusions: The most facial type in men was mesoprosopic and euryprosopic in women, the most Angle’s classification of malocclusion was Class I Type 1 .
