: Climate challenges foster the integration of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) appliances. The associated inverters are often equipped with local Q ( U ) control to mitigate the voltage limit violations in low-voltage feeders. Their presence strongly modifies the behaviour of low-voltage grids. The common lumped model of the latter, which is used for load flow analysis in medium-voltage level, cannot describe their new behaviour. In this study, two lumped models of low-voltage grids are analysed and compared: the common or simplified one that does not consider the effect of the grid itself and the inverters ’ different working points in the Q ( U ) characteristic; and the exact one. Power flow simulations are performed in low-and medium-voltage test grids for maximal PV production. Results reveal high errors of the simplified lumped model that lead to incorrect power flow in medium-voltage grid.

Distribution system operators are starting to implement market-based mechanisms to use flexibility from distributed energy resources. Flexibility tenders allow distribution system operators to procure flexibility for the medium to long-term, with the first implementations in Europe in the UK since 2018, and a recent pilot in France. This work seeks to quantify the potential participation of electric vehicle aggregators in a flexibility tender, considering the role of market rules and product definitions. The main parameters that affect fleet participation and remuneration are the bidirectional capability (V2G), the reliability of the fleet and the match of availability profiles to the tender requirements.

Electricity system needs to balance the consumption and generation every moment. Imbalance settlement considers the differences between the allocated and realised volumes of energy of the market participants. Local market, developed in the project DOMINOES will have an effect on the balance settlement since it introduces an additional market place and local market participants trade energy and possibly also flexibility between each other thus interfering the retailer balances. New balance settlement can be handled via smaller BRP units, independent aggregation or multiple retailers. DOMINOES-project proposes two solutions, where balance responsibility is extended to end-user (‘full local balance settlement model’) or extended to local market level (‘light local balance settlement’). Full model proposes the end-user to have responsibility to keep itself in balance. Local market level adds another layer of local balance settlement before the centralised balance settlement. Both approaches are going to be further evaluated in the project validation.
