Ever since the term “viraje” was coined in the 1980s to designate the changes in the economic program of Lista 15, it has been argued that this sector of the Partido Colorado shifted towards liberal economic ideas from 1966 onwards. This paper seeks to carefully analyze the proposals put forward in that year’s elections by the Lista 15 sector, already identified with Unidad y Reforma, under the leadership of Jorge Batlle Ibanez. Approaches to government, inflation and economic sectors stand out, as they show evidence of ruptures with the statist and dirigiste tradition of the two precedent decades. Finally, Batlle Ibanez’s liberal economic thought, based on his links with Argentine referents of that tradition, is analyzed to explain the programmatic renewal of Lista 15.

School supervisors constitute a fundamental link in any process of educational transformation. This article aims to understand its role in the multiple innovations implemented in Uruguay during the «progressive era» (2005-2020) in which the national government was led by a center-left party, the Frente Amplio. The article was nourished by bibliography on teachers´ supervision and on change processes, with contributions from both Pedagogy and Political Science. The research carried on was descriptive and explanatory, qualitative in nature and with a comparative tone. As main findings, the document emphasizes that, under the same institutional framework, the position of Primary supervisors towards innovations diverged from that assumed by supervisors in the Secondary level. At an explanatory level, it was found that the role of supervision in educational transformation derives not only from the dominant institutional framework but also from political support, the modality of implementation of innovative policies, the prevailing professional culture and the weight of history.

En dialogo con los estudios culturales urbanos, este articulo propone indagar teoricamente sobre la ciudad latinoamericana, entendida como ambito vehiculizador de ideas y de transformaciones en el continente, a partir de ciudades balnearias como Mar del Plata, Punta del Este y Rio de Janeiro. En tal sentido, se propone que las sociabilidades a las que estas ciudades dan curso inciden en la historia de la region y promueven, hacia dentro y fuera de fronteras, simbolos, imagenes, narrativas y experiencias tanto nacionales como regionales.
