In order to distinguish normal tissues and abnormal pathological changes in the clinic diagnose and pathology, it is required to segment the medical images. The snake model is an important method of getting the contour of the object in the image segmentation. However, it has many defects in some fields such as concavity processing, local optimization, convergence speed and segmentation precision. Aiming at the problem existing in the snake model about falling into its local optimization, a new method of medical image segmentation based on modified ant colony algorithm with GVF snake model is proposed. With adding crowded degree function to ant colony algorithm, the overall traversal ability is increased and the capacity of finding optimal solution is enhanced. The contrast experiments proved that the method in this paper is superior to the segmentation using snake model only in convergence speed, global search performance, and the precision of finding global optimal solution.

In view of the defects of the prediction model based on neural network, such as when doing prediction of nonlinear sequence, it is likely to fall into local hypo-strong point, and the rate of training is very slow, based on the traditional prediction model using neural network, a novel short-term electrical load prediction model based on fuzzy wavelet neural networks (FWN) is presented in this paper. The prediction effect of wavelet neural network prediction model is proved in Matlab7.0 simulation environment. A better prediction result is gained, and the defect of falling into local hypo-strongpoint is overcome, at the same time, the rate of training is raised compared with the prediction model based on neural network. The calculation result shows that the presented model is effective.

Vascular endothelial growth factor 165 (VEGF165) is one of the most prominent vascular growth factors that has the potential to accelerate wound healing by promoting the regeneration of capillary vasculature. However, the short biological half-live of growth factors may impose severe restraints on their clinical applications. Here, we investigate the feasibility and safety of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transfected with VEGF165 gene so as to provide a new method for clinical skin repair in the future. The MSCs were harvested, isolated and purified by combining density gradient centrifugation with adhering method. The pShuttle-CMV/VEGF165 was introduced into cultured MSCs through liposome-mediated transfection. The VEGF165 gene and protein expression in transfected MSCs and untransfected MSCs were determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Enzyme-linked Immunoadsorbent Assay (ELISA) and western blot analysis respectively. We found that the expression of VEGF165 mRNA and protein in transfected MSCs were much higher than those in the untransfected MSCs. These results suggest that human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells can be successfully transfected with vascular endothelial growth factor 165 gene mediated by liposome in vitro. The present study has laid a foundation for potential use of VEGF165 gene transfection to accelerate the vascularization of tissue engineered skins grafting.

With the dramatic increasing number of available Web services, how to locate the right services is becoming a big challenge in pervasive environments. The Web services discovery mechanism of UDDI based on keywords and simple classification can not meet the current needs. A semantic distance between ontology concepts is defined to calculate the similarity between ontology concepts. Based on the similarity, a new semantic Web service matching algorithm is proposed. The evaluations of the experimental results have indicated that the results correlate well with this algorithm under the pervasive environment.

Digital holography is a digitized holography, which is very suitable for phase imaging of microscopic object. An off-axis lensless Fourier transform digital holographic system is built. The recording and numerical reconstruction of digital hologram is analyzed. The model of phase aberration in numerical reconstruction is presented. Experimental investigations have been performed for a USAF test target. The accurate phase image is obtained by an automatic phase aberration compensation procedure. The lateral resolution of 2.76 mum and the axial resolution of no larger than 10 nm have been achieved experimentally. The results are coincident with the theoretical predictions. Also, the height profiles of the test target is obtained and given.

How to intensify real-time health monitoring to patients effectively and correctly is a crucial and acknowledged precondition for the adoption of new intelligent technologies such as affective and proactive computing. This paper proposed an overview of the approaches to build a reliable affective model on the basis of affective trust theory for high accurate health monitoring systems. Proactive environment was applied for health monitor to provide ideal environments and achieve monitor tasks by sensor or machine vision so as to minimize mistakes for patients in advance. A central design for trusted monitor report was how to capture patient's affective expressions. In general, a person-independent affective model based on swift trust was proposed for specific patient's facial expressions and biomedical signals were caught by sensor for swift trusted comparison with emotions. Based on cognitive analysis, the model could help analyze and void the crucial mistaken reports for real-time health monitoring systems.

This paper proposes an innovative distributed algorithm for cluster organization of wireless sensor networks (WSN), named DSCO. Simple logic, connectionless information exchange and asynchronism are prominent features of the algorithm. DSCO involves three correlative processes: cluster organization, cluster reorganization and cluster self-healing. The process of cluster organization is the basic process of DSCO, which adopts random backoff strategy; the cluster reorganization and cluster self-healing processes are recursion of the former, which effectively simplifies the design of the algorithm. Furthermore, DSCO furthest isolates nodes and clusters, and reduces the reliance of global information to minimum, which is useful to reduce the pressure of data storage and processing in nodes, lessen the network traffic and enhance the anti-destroy ability of WSN. The algorithm simulation illustrates that DSCO can get fast clustering speed and uniform distribution of cluster nodes, proves its good performance on clustering rate and topology control, and shows good adaptability to large-scale WSN.

As electronic patient record (EPR) is the basis of clinical information and the core of a hospital information system (HIS), the research on EPR is an important element of HIS and digital hospital construction. Based on B/S architecture, a three-layer EPR management system is presented. Its expandable, maintainable and secure B/S system architecture is cost-effective and is developed with Eclipse platform. The dataflow and activities at a hospital are analyzed. Based on the function and operation analysis of the clinical department in a hospital, the database structure for the EPR management system is designed using E-R charts. The functioning process of the server in the B/S architecture is discussed. The server is developed with the components registered in Struts-config.xml file. At the client, JSP pages are created with dreamweaver. The prototype system is tested by test run and its correctness is validated.
