Grading practices have long been a controversial issue in the academe. There is an urgency to revisit the grading practices of college instructors in the changing landscape of educational policies. This study aimed to identify and differentiate the grading practices that promote and inhibit learning in the outcomes-based education (OBE) among college instructors in English 1 using descriptive survey method design, interview, and documentary analysis. The statistical methods used were weighted mean, one way ANOVA and t-test. The result of the study discussed that the majority of the respondents are in 31-36 years of age, female, married, having Masters Degree and with four to six years experience in teaching. The highest promoter of learning to grading practices as perceived by teachers was grading based on the stated learning outcomes. The identified inhibitor of learning practices was giving of deductions in the student’s grades based on behavior. Results also show that the grading practices of instructors have no significant difference when grouped according to their profile. The findings of the study were used as an input towards the formulation of proposed guidelines to improve the grading practices in the implementation of OBE. Assessment Literacy is a requisite skill pre-service teachers need to develop to ensure the quality of teaching and learning. Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) are the best venue where this skill is developed. This study seeks to find out the classroom assessment literacy of pre-service teachers of Xavier University utilizing the Classroom Assessment Literacy (CALI) Tool of Dr. Craig Mertler. This tool was revalidated using the Rasch Model and items were revised in the Philippine context. Standards for each item in CALI were matched with the Strands of Domain 5 (Planning, Assessing & Reporting) of the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS) of the Philippines. Fifty-nine pre-service teachers participated in the study. The descriptive analysis included frequencies and percentages. Results show highest performance on choosing appropriate assessment tools with 81.36% while least in developing valid grading procedures with 8.47%. Furthermore, five out of seven assessment standards in CALI were well represented in the NCBTS. However, the standards for developing valid grading procedures and recognizing unethical practices were least addressed. The need to re-examine how assessment concepts were taught to pre-service teachers emerged. This study provided an avenue to suggest to the NCBTS Team the necessity of revisiting the strands of the NCBTS Framework. Teachers’ pedagogical attributes have affected learning achievement and performance. This study examined the relationship between teachers’ complementary teaching attributes i.e. teaching styles and multiple bits of intelligence and the academic performance of the students leading to a basis for a purposive integration of pedagogical innovation in teacher education curriculum. The descriptive- correlational type of research was utilized in this study. The universal sampling technique was employed for the student- respondents while simple random sampling was used in the selection of the teacher-respondents. Data were gathered through the use of standardized questionnaires. The academic performance was determined by looking at the students’ term grade-point average. Based on the result, four (4) of the teaching styles significantly correlate with the academic performance of the students namely expert, formal authority, facilitator, and delegator. However, a negative correlation was noted between the academic performance and three of the teaching styles, i.e., expert, formal authority, and delegator. All of the multiple intelligence significantly correlates with students’ academic performance. Those above further suggest the appropriate inclusion of teaching styles in pedagogical platform integrating teachers multiple bits of intelligence to achieve an effective educational process. Monitoring and Evaluation tool play a vital role in measuring the cause and effect of achieving a quality education. It determines the performance of both administrators and teachers in the delivery of knowledge and skills to our students. The study described and analyzed the monitoring and evaluation tool for the Department of Education in the case of Iligan City Division Philippines. The study used the descriptive – evaluative method and analyzed both descriptive and inferential statistics. General findings revealed that monitoring and evaluation tool was not piloted in the field at the same time performance indicators were not known by the teachers. It is also noted that teacher’s overall very satisfactory (VS) rating does not correspond to National Achievement Test (NAT) rating for the last (4) four years. Subsequently, a localized Monitoring and Evaluation tool is created with proper information dissemination and piloting so that teachers are aware of what to do during the class observation. Moreover, monitoring and evaluation must come up with skills indicators that would measure the skills transfer to ensure performance development of students that can compete globally. Considering the global challenge of achieving excellence in education, it is imperative that the Philippine Higher Education Institutions should align to the standards set by the accrediting bodies. The study aimed to determine the alignment of chartered SUCs IT program in the Caraga Region to CHED Policies and Standards. Employing mixed methods, the study considered three types of instruments: survey questionnaire, interview schedule, and observation/ocular visit checklist. The survey questionnaire and observation/ocular visit checklist, which was based on CMO no. 53, series 2006 for Information Technology Education Programs, were used. Data were subjected to statistical treatment as frequency, mean, standard deviation and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that in terms of alignment percentage by geographical location, generally, the areas – curriculum outline, instructional standards, admission and residence requirements, garnered the highest alignment percentage of 100.00% in four geographical locations. The study, therefore, concludes that one geographical location is not significantly better than the other, or that one is not significantly more aligned than other geographical locations. It is recommended that chartered SUC administrations should continuously upgrade and update the school’s physical facilities and equipment in conformity to the CHED standards and other recognized accrediting agencies that require standardization to support the IT faculty in the delivery of instruction. School Intramurals in the Philippines often center on sports, athletics, games, and other competitive physical activities. Usually a separate and external event, the beauty pageant has become a popular and integral part of school intramurals. Little is known about the intramural beauty pageant. It is a topic that still needs to be explored further so it may be understood better and, consequently, be made more relevant to the lives of students and society at large. This non-experimental, descriptive study looked into the intramural beauty pageants in seven colleges in Leyte Province, Philippines, to describe the intramural beauty pageant’s nature and purpose, as well as students’ and organizers’ attitudes and perceptions about intramural beauty contests. Data gathered from 28 actives, and 168 passive pageant participants were organized thematically to extract insights and patterns that would depict the phenomenon coherently. The study found, among others, that schools hold pageants to choose representatives for external beauty contests and to entertain spectators during the intramurals. It was also found that students ascribe positive value to the intramural beauty and consider it important but not relevant to school intramurals. Research shows that children’s brains are not automatically wired for reading; they need systematic assistance to become successful readers. Children who start off with poor literacy skills can remain poor readers. Thus, reading teachers have to be equipped to teach these skills. This study primarily determined whether the teacher educators possess the knowledge and ability in reading instruction and if their knowledge and ability are carried over to their teacher candidates. The study used descriptive design. In gathering the data, a questionnaire adopted from Binks (2008) was utilized. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used in analyzing the data. The findings revealed that the teacher educators perceived that their knowledge and ability in reading instruction is moderate while that of the teacher candidates is very good. The results on the knowledge and ability in reading instruction showed that both groups of respondents fared poorly. Hence, the study concludes that the gaps in the knowledge and ability of the teacher educators were carried over to their teacher candidates. It is therefore recommended that a thorough review of the teacher preparation curriculum should be in order. Schools and institutions largely differ in the coverage of contents taught because of the teacher’s preparation and background. Thus, this study was conducted to evaluate the science program of the colleges and universities in Bohol to determine their compliance with the CHED Memorandum Order Standards (CMO). Utilizing descriptive design, the study collected data by ocular inspection and use of checklist of laboratory facilities and equipment. Observation of classes by the researcher and external evaluators were big parts of the study. Findings showed that laboratory facilities were below compliance based on the CHED standards. Moreover, there were no significant gaps between the existing science curriculum and CHED standards generally speaking. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics were below compliance based on CMO standards. Higher Educational Institutions in Bohol were comparable based on their compliance with CMO standards. Therefore, schools need periodic evaluation to monitor the school’s compliance in the CMO standards. Moreover, laboratory facilities need improvement to continually improve quality of instruction and eventually produce competitive and professional graduates. One focus of the 2013 curriculum changes in Indonesia is building the character of the nation to face challenges, changes and chances in global sustainability. This study is inspired by Laskar Pelangi, an evocative story about marginalized people pursuing dreams and education, revealing in an exciting combination of caricature and literary style by Andrea Hirata (novel and movie) that is successfully attracting Indonesians. The issues discussed in this study are the right and the quality of education; facility versus approaches, competencebased versus values-oriented, process versus product. This study explores: 1) how the conflicts are resolved in the novel and movie and what alternative meanings might be built on it; 2) the beliefs about the values of the pre-service teachers on Laskar Pelangi (both movie and novel). To answer the questions, critical discourse analysis is applied to ‘Laskar Pelangi’ and the pre-service teachers’ presentations related to those two sources. From the very beginning, ‘Laskar Pelangi’ movie expose the gaps in education world; comparison between modern and postmodern concepts was made. Pre-service teachers’ beliefs on how valuable teachers’ passion and the students’ dream in a very limited situation is one of the findings in this study. The study concludes that local literary works are valuable resources to explore values and characters to be developed in education especially to face global sustainability.
