In this essay, we will discuss the premiere of Germán Rozenmacher’s Réquiem para un viernes a la noche at the IFT theatre (Idisher Folks Teater, Jewish Popular Theater) in 1964. We argue that it is not only an emblematic work of Jewish Argentinian Dramaturgy, but a premiere that reveals a change of orientation in the IFT, as it expresses a turn in the concerns of its members who sought to have a greater arrival to the spectators of the new generation, as well as to the non-Jewish public. This objective had already led them from 1957 to begin to realize their works in Castilian, when until then they were realized only in Yiddish. This was in response to the IFT’s desire to achieve greater integration in both Argentine society and the Acta Literaria 56 (39-52), Primer semestre 2018 ISSN 0716-0909

EnglishAbstract: While literary texts may be regarded as possible, autonomous and self-sufficient worlds, they are somehow anchored into reality and life itself that allow us both to clarify subjective issues and fulfill emotional deficits. In a similar way, fictional characters help us to understand how other people's minds work as well as our own life experiences and even our own acts and decisions. This paper stands that calcula tions and emotions are mixed up differently in each person, each situation and each social interaction. Juan Rulfo's novel Pedro Paramo gives us a wide variety of exam ples showing that kind of mixture, notoriously seen in the characters that dare to ba lance their emotions regarding their specific economic, political and social conditions. Pedro Paramo could be seen as a paradigm of how destructive might be emotions like love, illusion, grief, fear, frustration, ambition, embedded in complex systems of ha bits and beliefs like the ones that ruled in Mexico's mid-20th Century. Not to mention that emotions are undoubtedly linked to propositional attitudes, ideas, prejudices, arguments and world's visions.
