Transmission and storing of high density digital information plays an important role in the present age of communication and information technology. These data are distorted while reading out of the recording medium or arriving at the receiver end due to inter symbol interference in the channel. The adaptive channel equalizer alleviates this distortion and reconstructs the transmitted data faithfully. In recent years the area of artificial immune system (AIS) has drawn attention of many researchers due to its broad applicability to different fields. In this paper, we propose a novel digital channel equalizer using AIS algorithm. Simulation study has been carried out to show superior performance of the proposed equalizer particularly for nonlinear noisy channels compared to that offered by LMS and GA based training.

We propose two new schemes for segmentation of images with uneven lighting conditions. These are based on adaptive window selection. The first one is a window merging method based on Lorentz information measure (LIM) but the second one is a window growing method using the notion of entropy. We propose two new window merging criterion where the window merging is carried out based on linear combination of local and global statistics. In window growing method, we define a notion of feature entropy and the window is selected employing jointly entropy and feature entropy. The two window merging schemes perform better than the schemes using only LIM. The proposed window growing technique is compared with schemes using only LIM and the proposed two merging techniques. It is found that window growing technique is best among all in the context of error due to misclassification error.

A new recursive algorithm is presented for estimating state variables of observable linear time-invariant continuous-time dynamical systems from the system input-output information using shifted Legendre polynomials (SLP). The principle of Luenberger observer is utilized for estimating the state variables. The proposed approach has the distinct advantage that the smoothing effect of integration reduces the influence of zero-mean observation noise on estimation. Results of simulation study on two examples indicate that the proposed recursive algorithm works quite well.

A publisher subscriber system is an event notification service where events generated by the publishers are routed to subscribers with matching subscriptions. Our work on publisher-subscriber systems in peer-to-peer (p2p) networks is motivated by the question : "What if the nodes in the network do not have the bandwidth to route all the events generated?" In such a case nodes may not receive all notifications because of lack of bandwidth, and even those with high bandwidth may starve for notifications if its neighbours do not have the bandwidth to send event notifications. In this paper, we consider Sub-2-Sub architecture for content based publisher subscriber systems and show with the help of simulations that the event dissemination rate will actually be much slower than expected when the publishing rate is very high. We propose a topology design and event dissemination mechanism which removes nodes which become bottleneck in dissemination. Side by side, it allows a node to receive more events if it has more bandwidth. Our system is built on top of Sub-2-Sub publisher subscriber system, and provides much improved performance over it in terms of percent of event received by nodes, and ratio of uploads to downloads (which shows the removal of bottleneck nodes in dissemination).

A new multi-phase PWM DC-DC converter with an auxiliary circuit to reduced switching losses across the switches, is designed, in order to solve the problem of meeting the power supply requirements of the new generation microprocessor, which requires 40-100 A current, lower voltage and better current transient response. The multi-phase topology benefits in components size reduction resulting in power density increase that allows power supply to reduce size and increase efficiency and performances. These reductions accrue from the higher effective conversion frequency with higher frequency ripple current due to the phase interleaving process of this topology. High current multiphase buck converters are finding use in computing, graphics, and telecom applications. In this paper, designed of two phases DC-DC converter of 100 W, 12 V / 1 V of efficiency 97% is discussed in detail and experimental results are presented to support the theoretical analysis.

Analysis and reconstruction of ECG wave from sampled data is an important aspect in estimating the physiological condition of heart as well as in transmitting the ECG data to a remote location. In the present paper software based off line Fourier analysis technique has been reported to find the harmonic components of ECG wave of a normal subject. The respective Fourier harmonic data have been combined to reconstruct the ECG wave and thus to find the maximum number of harmonic present in a normal ECG wave. The analysis results are reported in the paper and it has been observed that complete reconstruction of ECG wave is possible if only fifteen Fourier harmonic data are considered. Thus transmission of ECG wave may be easier since fifteen harmonics amplitude are only required to be transmitted along with their respective phase angles.

Novel controllers to improve the stability of coupled interleaved buck converters operating under current-mode control are proposed in this paper. The controllers are employed to force the eigenvalues of the monodromy matrix of the system (the state transition matrix over one full cycle) inside the unit circle, thus avoiding the Neimark bifurcation which has been known to occur in this system. The indirect coupling between the two inductors employed in the circuit is shown to improve the system's stability. Simulations and numerical analysis are presented to provide the basic theoretical evidence for the proposed control methods.

In general, the problem of reactive power compensation is viewed from two aspects: load compensation and voltage support. Voltage support is generally required to reduce voltage fluctuation at a given terminal of a transmission line. optimal power flow (OPF) model has been developed and analyzed with thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and static var compensator (SVC) for practical power networks using Newton's optimization technique. The optimal transmission losses and corresponding generation schedules with optimal TCSC and SVC setting parameters for different case studies have also been reported. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested for IEEE-30 Bus system with single and multiple TCSC& SVC devices with contingency analysis and do not suffer with Computational difficulties.

A method of moment based analysis of the feed network of a waveguide fed two dimensional array antennas has been presented using Multi Cavity Modeling Technique (MCMT). The proposed power divider/combiner is unlikely to the structure of the family of Tees. The output ports are in the same planes as the input which is an advantage for phased array applications. The proposed longitudinal power divider/combiner has good agreement with the theory; CST microwave studio simulated and measured data. In the input of the waveguide at 10 GHz frequency band, it behaves as an H-Plane tee, over 2 GHz.

Hybrid energy systems (HES), which utilize different renewable resources such as wind, solar, biomass, small/micro hydro, with fossil fuel powered diesel/petrol generator to provide electric power, are well suited for remote rural areas. This paper presents a general methodological framework for the formulation of an action plan for the small-scale hybrid energy system for remote area. The action plan is the output of a six stage procedure: (a) Selecting cluster of villages, (b) Demand assessment, (c) Resource assessment, (d) Estimation of unit cost of different resources, (e) Sizing and optimization, and (f) Model formulation. The action plan is formed on the basis of cost effective modelling for remote rural area that is minimization of energy production cost. A numerical example is included to demonstrate the action plan.
