The current literature examining factors related to age and size leading organisations to underperform is vast and has employed multiple theoretical lenses. However, the evidence is fragmented and mixed, and the causes for underperformance remain unclear. Building on empirical findings in 62 studies and a sample of 241 effect sizes covering 20 years of research, a meta-analysis with structural equation modelling was combined to extend the knowledge of the threats of age and size to firms’ performance. Formalisation, legitimacy and organisational structure were used to test the mediation between size and age in performance. These variables are pointed out as factors associated with the threats of age and size. The results provide evidence that structure and mainly formalisation and legitimacy play a key role in mitigating the effects of the liabilities of newness and smallness. The findings provide information on how managers should take action to keep their ventures alive.

The importance of corporate entrepreneurship is continuously highlighted as a crucial potential corporate growth strategy that seeks continued growth opportunities. Corporate entrepreneurship is perceived as a critical element of corporate performance, so studies on key internal factors that may affect the manifestation of such entrepreneurship within an organisation are gaining increasing attention. This is because an innovative organisational environment is vital for invigorating corporate entrepreneurship in the organisation. This study aims to show how managers and employees can design and run their organisations in a way that is conducive to innovation, value-creation and continued growth by examining how internal organisational support and imperative innovation culture manifests corporate entrepreneurship and supports organisational innovation. This study analysed how key internal factors affecting the manifestation of corporate entrepreneurship influence the organisational innovation of 229 Korean companies. This study intends to determine the internal factors that support and strengthen corporate entrepreneurship by shedding light on which of them affect the manifestation of corporate entrepreneurship necessary to nurture and develop more intrapreneurs. This research also aims to analyse how imperative innovation culture moderates the relationship among innovation activity, organisational innovation and risk-taking.

An enhanced, new venture simulation can be a game changer within a school’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing students with a holistic vision of a new venture and skills relevant to its potential success. The purpose of this article is to help faculty design and deliver a simulation experience that will engage, challenge, inspire and transform students into entrepreneurial enthusiasts with practical new venture knowledge and skills. Attention is given to (a) the factors to consider in choosing the right simulation, (b) the best practices for structuring a class for maximum impact and (c) the role of the instructor as an entrepreneurial coach.
