At present, it is necessary to strengthen the competences in educational agents, from a know how to be, know how to do, know how to act and know how to live together, and enhance autonomous learning in students and teachers. The objective of this paper was to analyze the conceptual, methodological contributions and instruments used in autonomous learning within the educational context from 2017 to 2020. This is a documentary review done in databases such as Scopus, Ebsco, Academic One File and Proquest. The Prism diagram was used to define the inclusion and exclusion criteria taking into consideration authors, date of publication, definition, approach, type and design, instrument and conceptual contributions; exclusion criteria were duplication, publication date, language, title and abstract and full text. The population was 1001 documents; and the sample selected for the research, 25 scientific articles. Most authors agree on the conceptualization of autonomous learning. The qualitative approach, with non-experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive designs, is predominant; and the documentary guide and questionnaires are the most frequently used instruments. Autonomous learning is the student ́s ability to be the main character of his (her) own action; to achieve it, he (she) has to comply with internal and external demands, and its development will depend on the attitude and commitment of the educational agents. Polygamy has become common practice in many communities including Pakistan. Objectives: The study investigated the causes of polygamy, outcomes, and women's coping strategies to deal with co-wives’ relationships. Method: Exploratory qualitative method was used. Data was collected from 11 polygamous women who consented to an in-depth interview. The study was conducted in 2017 with approval from the institution and polygamous women. Results: Three themes emerged from the study based on findings. First theme: reasons of polygamy as findings indicated that majority of females allowed their husbands for co-wives due to infertility or having only female children, husband’s love marriage, and in-laws family pressure because they wanted to secure their marriage instead of divorce. Second theme: outcomes of polygamy as jealousy, unhappiness, and loneliness due to injustice, by the spouse were explored as potential pitfalls of polygamy. The advantages of polygamy were included sharing in-house responsibilities and child-rearing. Third theme: The coping strategies used by polygamous women have included faith in religion, fate role, and compromise with the co-wives. Conclusion: Polygamous women though claimed that polygamy has disadvantages but to them, divorce is not an option. The policymakers and law enforcement agencies should pass laws for the welfare of polygamous women. They must be educated through different seminars and programs to cope with the stress and manage other consequences of polygamy. The study is not against polygamy but the need to improve the family structure of polygamous families is a major concern. ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry, Vol. 22(9), November 2021: 1-10.

The present research work has the main objective of determining to what extent the Application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), improves the academic performance in the mathematics area of the first-grade students of the secondary level, taking as based on a computer program that is available to most students at this level, such as excel. A very important psychological factor for the concretization of this fact is the motivation, generated by the interaction of the student with the TIC, constituting itself in a motor for the improvement of the academic performance of the student. To this end, a questionnaire was developed as an evaluation instrument for a sample of 60 students from a population of 260 male students. The research technique of experimental group design and control with previous and subsequent measurement was used, by non-probabilistic sampling, the section of the 1st "I" was determined as the experimental group (31 students) and the section of the 1st "J"as the control group (29 students), the results being processed and statistically checked. The final conclusion was reached that the application of ICT, in this case the excel computer program, improves by 16.6%, the academic performance in Mathematics of the first grade students of the secondary level of the IEPE GUE José Faustino Sánchez Carrión-Trujillo. The present study aimed to find out the effectiveness of a program based on rational emotional behavioural counselling in reducing the learned helplessness of the physically disabled in Riyadh. The researchers used the quasi-experimental approach based on the experimental design. Moreover, the study relied on two tools, namely, the Learned Helplessness Scale, prepared by Quinless et al. translated by the researchers, and a rational, emotional, behavioural, counselling program. The study sample included 20 young people with motor disabilities, equally divided into two main groups, namely, (experimental and control). Their ages ranged between (20-30) years. Moreover, the results of this study reflected that there were obvious statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control group members in the level of learned helplessness, after applying the program sessions based on rational, emotional, behavioural counselling. Such differences were related to and in favour of the experimental group. It was also found that there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the level of learned helplessness, before and after the application of the program based on rational, emotional, behavioural counselling. These differences were in favour of the post-test. Finally, the results reflected the existence of statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the learned helplessness between the two tests; the post-test and the Follow-up test, of the program based on rational, emotional and behavioural counselling. These differences were in favour of the Follow-up application. ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry, Vol. 22(8) October, 2021; 1-22.

The present study was designed to develop and describe the psychometric properties of the Sense of Belonging Scale (SoBS) among adolescents for the teen’s sample. The research included three distinct studies. In Study 1, item pool generation and evaluation of content validity of the new scale by expert panel were carried out. In Study 2 (n=412), the factor structure of SoB was examined with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and the internal consistency of the new scale was evaluated. In Study 3 (n=362) Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed on the items determined by EFA in a different sample and the convergent validity of the new scale was assessed. EFA results displayed that SoB had five factors accounting for 43.064% of the initial total variance and CFA results confirmed that these five distinct but correlated factors were related to school belonging, home country connectedness, religious affiliation, culture connectedness, and family belonging. The internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega) of the SoBS was 0.90 and all subscales had high internal consistency. To assess the convergent validity, SoBS was administered together with Psychological Wellbeing (18 items), Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES), Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The results revealed that SoBS was positively correlated with the Psychological Wellbeing, positive affect, and RSES while it was negatively correlated with negative affect and BDI. Test-retest reliability (N=83) for total SoBS was 0.81. Findings suggest that SoBS is a psychometrically valid and reliable tool to assess sense of belonging among adolescents. Coronavirus pandemic situation is acknowledged as a terrifying situation to human beings and has generated a tremendous loss in many perspectives to human life worldwide. People get impacted by physical, psychosocial, economic, and environmental crises amidst any pandemic crisis. Objectives: The current study aimed to interpret and explore the perception of the impact of a pandemic crisis on mental health, emerging issues, and governance among the people of a developing country during the lockdown of Covid-19, the second wave. This study also assessed their knowledge to assess their level of mental preparedness during Covid-19. Methods and Materials: An online cross-sectional survey was performed among a sub-set of a developing country population using a modified pre-validated structured tool. The sample size was 124. Responses were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics of Chi-square and regression analysis. Results: About 55.47% (71) had adequate knowledge. The mean knowledge score was 6.04, with a Standard Deviation (SD) of 2.16, indicating a low knowledge level. There was a higher significant association between demographics and mental health in terms of variables of psychosocial domains (p<0.05). Also, a negative association was found between their knowledge and their profession (p<0.05). Conclusion: Partial lockdown at the time of the study due to Covid-19 has led the majority of the people to undergo mental stress disregarded to their age, education, or their boundness to the healthcare profession. The healthcare system needs to emphasize enhancing appropriate knowledge to adopt preventive measures and efficient protocols, including vaccination.

There was a higher significant association between demographics and mental health in terms of variables of psychosocial domains (p<0.05). Also, a negative association was found between their knowledge and their profession (p<0.05). Conclusion: Partial lockdown at the time of the study due to Covid-19 has led the majority of the people to undergo mental stress disregarded to their age, education, or their boundness to the healthcare profession. The healthcare system needs to emphasize enhancing appropriate knowledge to adopt preventive measures and efficient protocols, including vaccination.","PeriodicalId":43558,"journal":{"name":"ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry","volume":"182 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83021440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (PRS) at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru provides Recovery Oriented Services (ROSeS) to persons with mental illness which promote recovery beyond the mere alleviation of symptoms. A range of vocational sections (bamboo, candle, bakery, printing, mat weaving, tailoring, computer, plastic molding, weaving, leather, craft, horticulture, domestic skills, arts & recreational activities) are available to choose from. PRS is run by a multidisciplinary team comprising of professionals from psychiatry, psychiatric social work, clinical psychology, psychiatric nursing and vocational instructors (for training persons with mental disabilities and families in various vocations). The main objective of PRS is to encourage and empower persons with mental illness and caregivers to lead an independent, productive and dignified life with help of society, industry, community leaders, governmental and nongovernmental agencies. The interventions promote reintegration of clients with mainstream society and improve the quality of life. The stories titled walking the road to recovery, rediscovering happiness, role model supporters, a journey toward wellness, smaller actions mean more than big intentions, and attitudinal barriers in rehabilitation are the recovery narratives of six individuals with mental illness in which they and their caregivers describe how the PRS team provided them with the support needed for recovery. Here the primary focus was on their personal strengths and resources than the deficits and symptoms. However, these narratives are indicative that recovery is possible for most of everyone as it is defined by the individual doing it. ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry, Vol. 22(9), October 2021: 1-8.
