The selection-based problem is a type of decision-making issue which involves opting for a single option among a set of available alternatives. In order to address the selection-based problem in data envelopment analysis (DEA), various integrated mixed binary linear programming (MBLP) models have been developed. Recently, an MBLP model has been proposed to select a unit in DEA with variable returns-to-scale technology. This paper suggests utilizing the linear programming relaxation model rather than the MBLP model. The MBLP model is proved here to be equivalent to its linear programming relaxation problem. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first linear programming model suggested for selecting a single efficient unit in DEA under the VRS (Variable Returns to Scale) assumption. Two theorems and a numerical example are provided to validate the proposed LP model from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

When Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma takes place on a two-dimensional plane among mobile agents, the course of the game slightly differs from that one in a well-mixed population. In this paper we present a detailed derivation of the expected number of encounters required for Tit-for-tat strategy to get even with Always-Defect strategy in a Brownian-like population. It will be shown that in such an environment Tit-for-Tat can perform better than in a well-mixed population.

Structural equation modelling (SEM) characteristics seem to be adapted to answer various relevant research questions in management accounting research. Thus, this study aims to illustrate the use and advantages of SEM in management accounting research in the non-profit sector. The contributions of this study include revealing the relationship between the leadership style, managerial accounting, and the performance of non-profit organizations measured by their community engagement. Furthermore, the mediating role of managerial accounting in non-profit organizations is also investigated in this context. The empirical results prove the existence of direct relationships between analytical and proactive leadership style and managerial accounting on the one hand and between managerial accounting and successful community engagement of non-profit organizations (non-financial performance) on the other. The study also confirms that managerial accounting mediates the relationship between the analytical and proactive leadership style and successful community engagement of non-profit organizations. The findings provide a valuable insight to guide managers in non-profit organizations and improve their non-financial performance through managerial accounting.

Motivation to open a for-profit nursing home is the same as motivation to start any other business, and it seems that, due to various demographic and social changes, the interest in this sector, especially in developed countries, will increase in the future. In that context, this research aims to analyze the efficiency of for-profit nursing homes with a focus on Croatian for-profit nursing homes from 2015 to 2019. In order to estimate different kinds of efficiencies, precisely to estimate technological change, which can’t be estimated through windows DEA, and technical efficiency changes, the Malmquist -- DEA performance measure was chosen for this analysis. The results show that for-profit nursing homes in our sample experienced an increase in the total factor productivity by 12.67 % in the analyzed period, where the decline in technical efficiency (-0.21 %) was compensated by an increase in technological change (13.16 %). Although technological innovation shifted the relative efficient frontier to a higher level, for-profit nursing homes in our sample were far from the best production frontier, highlighting managerial inefficiency.

Research of travel distance on single - depot position in warehouse is tremendous. This study focuses more on the effect of two-depot position on travel distance in order picking problem (OPP) by using the concept of traveling salesman problem (TSP) and exact method – Branch and Bound (B&B) algorithm. The total distance of one-depot position is shorter than two-depot position for single and double block warehouses and the difference is less than 5%. The total distance is also compared with approximate methods – SA and TS which show that the differences are less than 5%. The sequence of location visit for one depot and two depot is similar about two third from the total location visits. For order picking problem that has more than 25 location visits, one need to consider to apply approximate approach to get the solution faster even the difference will be higher from exact approach when the number of location visit or aisle increases.

This study addresses the curricular practical training rotation problem, which is a type of staff assignment problem. Many educational institutions require theoretical knowledge to be complemented by practical training. Although the details of the implementation differ from institution to institution, it is necessary to prepare a rotation plan that determines how long the trainees will practice in which unit in which training period. Because of the complexity of the problem and humanistic reasons, the manual rotation plan can not reach the optimal level that satisfies all stakeholders and takes time. This study defines a general Curricular Practical Training Rotation Planning Problem specific to the curriculum-based trainee assignment process carried out in a university department and proposes an integer mathematical model for its solution. It is one of the important contributions of this study. It also provides a methodological approach to identify the most appropriate rotation strategy that will satisfy stakeholders. The methodological approach followed is a structure that can be adapted to different perspectives. The study has the potential to guide practitioners and researchers in the field and to lead a rich literature that will be formed with different side constraints and purposes to the problem.

The operational research paper in the transportation model nowadays is heading to the environmental issue. One of the famous operational research models is transshipment. Transshipment is an expanded model of transportation, in each distribution center between the start to the destination point. In this research, the transshipment model is integrated into an environmental function. The challenge is to find the right shipment of each route from the start, distribution, and destination point considering the transportation cost and carbon emission. This research proposed a transshipment model by minimizing transportation and carbon emission cost using mixed-integer linear programming for model formulation. The solution searching used branch and bound method. This research analyzed the environmental objective function and constrain effect in the transshipment model. The model was tested in a beef distribution case study in Bogor, Indonesia that has eight source points, three distribution centers, and six destination points. The model was experimented using carbon emission limitation scenarios. The optimum result in source allocation, distribution and destination were different between the two scenarios. The carbon emission limitation affected carbon emission production and total cost.

Neutrosophic set is considered as a generalized of crisp set, fuzzy set, and intuitionistic fuzzy set for representing the uncertainty, inconsistency, and incomplete knowledge about the real world problems. In this paper, a neutrosophic linear programming (NLP) problem with single-valued trapezoidal neutrosophic numbers is formulated and solved. A new method based on the so-called score function to find the neutrosophic optimal solution of fully neutrosophic linear programming (FNLP) problem is proposed. This method is more flexible than the linear programming (LP) problem, where it allows the decision maker to choose the preference he is willing to take. A stock portfolio problem is introduced as an application. Also, a numerical example is given to illustrate the utility and practically of the method.

Awareness of the importance of U-shaped assembly line balancing problems is all on the rise. In the U-shaped assembly line, balancing is affected by the uncertainty associated with the assembly task times. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an approach to respond to the uncertainty caused by the task times. When the great majority of existing literature related to uncertainty in the assembly line is considered, it is observed that the U-shaped assembly line balancing problem under uncertainty is scarcely investigated. That being the case, we aim to fill this research gap by proposing a robust counterpart formulation for the addressed problem. In this study, a robust optimization model is developed for the U-shaped assembly line worker assignment and balancing problem (UALWABP) to cope with the task time uncertainty characterized by a combined interval and polyhedral uncertainty set. A real case study is conducted through data from a company producing water meters.

The common denominator of the European Union’s (EU) strategic long-run documents is the role of total factor productivity in fostering future growth and competitiveness. Hence, this article analyses the impact of total factor productivity on export competitiveness in EU new member states (NMS). As opposed to the stagnation of the growth of total factor productivity in the advanced economies, EU NMS exhibited stronger growth that was interrupted due to the 2008 economic and financial crisis. After the crisis, the growth continued but it was not as strong as before. The results of the empirical analysis confirm the vital role of total factor productivity for the export competitiveness of the EU NMS. However, the results also point to the fact that the impact of total factor productivity on export competitiveness is not that beneficial in the countries where the value of total factor productivity has not returned to the pre–crisis level.
