Application of Phenomenology Anthropological and Research: The Starting and 9, pp. Currently, one can encounter numerous contributions that apply phenomenology and its approach to experience in the fields of anthropological and ethnographic research. The convergence of phenomenology and anthropology has its own reasons. I will first trace the thematic areas of this col-laboration and present specific projects, and secondly specify the ques-tions and applied methods that phenomenology brings to the discourse of the specialized sciences. In a third step, I will build on the original rela-tionship between phenomenology and anthropology that leads us to the work of H. Plessner; that is not only meant to be a historical look back, but also an updating of such themes that can be productively re-developed in the present. In particular, I will ask what might be the position of H. Plessner in the current context, since his works are absent in todayʼs authors.

The paper concerns the fundamental debate whether naturalized epistemology is or can be normative. Following the example of W. V. Quine, if we replace the philosophical theory of knowledge with a psychological description of cognitive processes, we may not be able to identify “correct” processes of cognition and thus determine epistemic norms. A group of authors (L. Laudan, H. Kornblith and others) consider epistemic norms as hypothetical imperatives connecting cognitive means with cognitive ends. Such instrumental understanding of normativity is compatible with the naturalistic picture of epistemology. However, the key question concerns cognitive ends: are there any universal ends, or do we have to be satisfied with relativism of norms? In the paper, we defend the thesis that the ultimate end of knowing is “truth”. If we understand epistemic norms as hypothetical imperatives that prescribe how we should acquire beliefs in order to achieve our needs and interests, then we can define “truth” as that factor that makes certain processes successful with respect to these ends. It is a neutral understanding of truth as a criterion for the “correct” (functional) performance of the cognitive system. Orientation to truth thus forms the common value of the successful pursuit of any particular goals, thereby avoiding relativism of norms. At the same time, this understanding provides a more definite content to Quine’s concept of normativity as “truth-seeking technology” aimed at making accurate predictions.

Physics and Naturalistic Philosophy: Physical and Philosophical Aspects of the Gauge Principle 77, 2022, No 9, pp. 694 710 In the introductory part of the paper, we outline the position of the philosophy of physics in the context of naturalistic theoretical philosophy. The main message here is an appeal for understanding philosophy as an integral part of the scientific investigation of the world. In the following sections, we identify three central aspects of contemporary fundamental physics, knowledge of which is essential for philosophical reflection on physics. This is followed by an explanation of one of these aspects, which is the gauge principle. Based on classical electrodynamics, we explain with the help of a relatively modest mathematical apparatus the key idea of gauge symmetry, as it appears in the core theories of the standard model of elementary particles. In the final part, we point out the philosophical relevance of the gauge principle, especially within the current debates between substance- and structure-oriented philosophies of physics.

The paper explores Kierkegaardʼs involvement in politics. The Danish thinker offers a very peculiar and sophisticated path to Christianity for individuals. For him, ethical and religious, especially Christian strivings of an individual, is of utmost importance. Politics, on the other hand, should remain a limited domain of finite problems and practical solutions. Kierkegaard finally suggested radical institutional changes against mesalliance of the state and the church that should have opened the way for a free choice of Christian faith as a commitment. The overall spectrum of Kierkegaardʼs suggestions and virtues does not shape a co-herent policy agenda, nevertheless the author offers beneficial incentives to pol-iticians and politics. Kierkegaard's original thinking, his artistic, intellectual, and spiritual legacy, despite its shortcomings, radiates a powerful appeal and shows rather an indirect political impact.
