Material and Method: This study enrolled 220 participants who were 2-6 months in puerperiumperiod. The ssociodemographic features of the participants and the levels of physical, economic, sexual, and psychological IPV exposed during pregnancy were rated using Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) that determines the risk of postpartum depression. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean age of 220 participants was 30.84±6.032 years. Thirty-five (15.9%) participants scored 13 or higher in the EPDS score; these 35 participants were considered to have postpartum depression (PPD). There was a significant difference between the EPDS scores by the educational levels of the partners (p<0.05). EPDS score was affected significantly by having a delivery under urgent conditions, developing any infantile complication during delivery, physical and psychological IPV had a significant effect on EPDS (p<0.05). Marriage age and educational level had a significant correlation with physical IPV (p<0.05). Discussion: PPD is a highly prevalent disorder that adversely affects the quality of life of a mother, infant, and all family members. Mothers in the postpartum period should be more closely followed and PPD must be questioned in family health centers.

Material and Method: Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques were used for the determination of reduced-GSH. And the modified sensor was fabricated by dropping single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) dispersion onto the surface of the glassy carbon electrode. Results: The determination of reduced-GSH was accomplished at SWCNT modified sensor. The relationship between the current responses of the sensor and the concentrations of the reduced-GSH (1.0 x 10-8 5.0 x 10-8 M) showed excellent linearity and the detection limit was calculated as 75 nM. Discussion: Determination of trace amounts of reduced-GSH in urine samples was successfully applied at the modified sensor. The results showed that modification of the glassy carbon electrode with SWCNT could provide a new strategy for determining the concentration of GSH in physiological solutions.

In contrast to the common finding of mucin secretion in non-endocrine epithelial tumors, in endocrine tumors it is a very rare finding. Mucin secretion is very rare among the thyroid tumors. In the studies carried out on classifying the thyroid carcinomas in recent years, it was reported that the mucin might be secreted in thyroid carcinomas. In this paper, we present a rarely-seen follicular variant of papillary carcinoma secreting mucin.

In this study, it was aimed to retrospectively assess patients who underwent therapeutic plasmapheresis. Material and Method: The medical data of patients who underwent TPE in the 10-bed pediatric intensive care unit of Ümraniye TRH between May 2017 and May 2018 were retrospectively assessed. Age, sex, body weight, plasmapheresis indications, plasmapheresis technique, complication and mortality rates were recorded. Results: TPE was performed in a total of 19 patients. The mean age of the study population was 8.8 ± 5.9 years. Ten (52.6%) patients were provided respiratory support with mechanical ventilator; the mean duration of ventilator support for these patients was 10.3 ± 10 days. The most common indication for TPE was autoimmune encephalitis with a rate of 42% (8/19 patients); the other indications were: collagen tissue disorder activation, hepatic failure, mitochondriopathic encephalopathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, septic shock, and hemophagocytic syndrome. The patients were administered totally 5.94 ± 1.69 sessions of TPE, min 3-max 8). As a replacement fluid, fresh frozen plasma (FFP) was used in 17 patients and albumin in 2 patients. The most common complication was catheter-related complications. None of the patients died during the procedure. One patient was followed up for Hashimoto encephalitis and another patient who was followed up for septic shock died. Discussion: TPE is a treatment method that is invasive but with low-side effect profile; it is used to stop disease progression in lifethreatening autoimmune disorders unresponsive to a medical treatment.

The most common complication was catheter-related complications. None of the patients died during the procedure. One patient was followed up for Hashimoto encephalitis and another patient who was followed up for septic shock died. Discussion: TPE is a treatment method that is invasive but with low-side effect profile; it is used to stop disease progression in lifethreatening autoimmune disorders unresponsive to a medical treatment.","PeriodicalId":44485,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Clinical and Analytical Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41735333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Method: The antimicrobial activity of essential oils, Origanum vulgare (O. vulgare), Lavandula intermedia (L. intermedia) and Thymus vulgaris (T. vulgaris) were evaluated by broth microdilution method on microorganisms isolated from 20 patients with Grade II and III radiation dermatitis. Microdilutions had modified according to The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) recommendations and lowest concentration which inhibited growth after incubation was identified as Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). The severity degree of acute radiation dermatitis was graded according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 4.03. Results: Nine pathogenic strains were isolated from 20 samples of the patients. The pathogens isolated from skin swabs of the patients with Grade II and III radiation dermatitis were Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), methicillin-resistant coagulasenegative Staphylococcus (MRCNS), methicillin-sensitive coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (MSCNS), Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) and Candida albicans (C. albicans). Minimal Inhibitory Concentration values of O. vulgare, L. intermedia and T. vulgaris for each isolated microorganisms were found. These essential oils have been found effective on microorganisms isolated from secondary infections of radiation-related dermatitis. Discussion: Antimicrobial activity of O. vulgare, L. intermedia and T. vulgaris essential oils on pathogenic microorganisms isolated from radiation dermatitis were determined. Future use of essential oils in the treatment of acute radiation dermatitis should be considered.
