The article focuses on the materials of nine Plenums of the Board of the Union of Soviet Architects of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), which took place in the second half of the 1930s in the period between the First All-Union Congress of Soviet Architects in 1937 and the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of the USSR. The published materials of the Plenums are very rarely used by specialists as sources for the study of Soviet architecture and have never been the subject of special research before. Meanwhile, the focus of each Plenum of the Board always turned out to be the most relevant problems of Soviet architecture at the current time. Therefore, they are important documents for understanding and comprehending the global processes that took place in the Soviet architecture of that time. In addition, the correlation of the materials of the Board Plenums with the materials of the First All-Union Congress of Soviet Architects in 1937 allowed us to see the congress not only as the final point in the Soviet architecture development in the 1930s, but also as the beginning of a new stage. The materials considered in the article show that at this moment starts the struggle against "excesses" ("izlishestva") in Soviet architecture.

Rooted in a historical path with solid academic roots and conditioned by the economic policies of the fascist regime, in the post WWII period the Italian engineering culture, and Pier Luigi Nervi enjoined an extraordinary international fortune that crossed the borders of the Cold war. The paper intends to highlight some key-aspects of this complex phenomenon, which in itself represents a fundamental and only partially written page in the history of architecture characterizing the developments of the design culture in the years of the Cold War, both in the West and in the Socialist world and in the USSR in particular.

By now, in Rome, public buildings realized in the 1920-1940s, according to Italian heritage legislation, are becoming protected monuments and require conservation and restoration. The implementation of that, however, leads to a number of problems of very diverse nature; be both technical, social and cultural. This paper describes the basic features of protection and restoration of interwar heritage and analyses how they have been assessed and used both by the professional community and the general public.

The following article concerns the very important aspect of the early medieval art of Armenia, namely the decoration motives of the monuments of the Early Medieval architecture, and their relations with the early Christian and early Byzantine monuments. The centuries-old political and cultural ties with the Eastern Roman Empire have left their mark on the monuments of the artistic culture of Armenia. In particular, this concerns the variety of ornamental motifs that were widely used in the Hellenistic and Roman monuments, after the Christian culture inherited them and through it reached all ends of the Eastern Christian world. In Armenian early medieval architecture these ornamental motifs were the important part of the inner and outer decoration of churches, martyria, as well as stelae, khachkars, etc. In this article, several new decorative motifs that were not considered earlier are highlighted, or they were known in general, however they hadn't been explored from the point of view of their origins and artistic parallels. A new approach could be considered the compositions single out from this point of view on the early khachkars, on the window moldings of the Ptghni church and the acanthus band of the Aruch church, as well as the vine scroll motif on the facades of the Church of the Holy Cross of Aghtamar similar to early Christian decorative compositions of the floor mosaics and sarcophagi.

The article analyzes the research of the "post-socialist city" in domestic science and foreign authors, in Russian and the countries of Eastern Europe in connection with large-scale renovation. Renovation in the Russian cities is carried out on residential areas of the 1960-1980s panel housing constructions, that is up to 30% of the housing stock of cities, associated with the doctrine of a socialist city (sotsgorod). Changes in the requirements for the modern environment of the city, guidelines for professional activity in this regard are investigated. The results of the study of modern methods of urban renovation are resented. This process is assumed to be a product of renovation, reconstruction, restoration without destroying the integrity of the urban structure. It was concluded that the urban integrity should be considered regarding the development trends, existing in the residential areas, the accumulation of qualities and processes occurring simultaneously and non-simultaneously. There is quite sophisticated comprehension of renovation strategies' aims, as well as firm and flexible elements of the city structure, and the design process components, such as methods, sequence, driving forces, and "efforts" of active
