Discusses ways that the Cataloguing Department at the University of Oregon managed to eliminate a cataloguing backlog. Discusses the change in routine for acquisitions and cataloguing staffs through the use of the SOurce DLC qualifier system brought in with PASSPORT software. Shows the appearance of virtual employees with the introduction of the system.

Examines the OCLC/AMIGOS collection analysis CD (CACD) and its potential applications that can assist in the labour‐intensive process of evaluation and collection development. Identifies three categories of potential uers of the qualitative and quantitative data analysis provided by the CACD. Shows that the CACD affords the opportunity for better informed decision making.

Looks at some of the enhancements in interlibrary lending facilitated by the latest interlibrary lending (ILL) function key editor that is included with PASSPORT software. Shows how this editor registers keystroke directly from the keyboard. Offers an explanation of the keyboard template, and illustrates the creation of the PZI ILL template.

Addresses some issues that enhance efficiency in database preparation and ways to reduce cost and complexity in procedures. Looks at database creation, in particular building current data and retrospective data. Considers methods of dealing with remaining data following retrospective conversion. Finally reviews ways of bridging the gap between to cover the in‐between period in system changeover.

The effects of electronic access on the provision of information continue to be the focus of the OCLC Users Council. Building upon the Internet theme of the last Users Council meeting in October, Economic Aspects of the Electronic Information Community, this meeting continued to highlight the necessity of cooperation between vendors, publishers, and librarians. The problems faced by each of these groups is often a variation on the same theme. The most pressing issues are pricing, distribution, and copyright.
