Abstract In the narrative of survival, Souvenez-vous de moi, l’enfant de demain (2011), Serge Amisi, former child soldier in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 1997 to 2011, recounts his story of forced recruitment in Kabila’s rebel troops. A hybrid text that pushes the boundaries between fiction as well as historical and personal truth, this testimony turns out to be a privileged writing space where the social and psychic reconstruction of the narrator can be achieved. In the first part, the article explores Amisi’s singular and powerful writing which blurs the lines between reality and fiction. In the second part, the paper demonstrates how Amisi summons his memory to restore the coping mechanisms which allowed him to adapt to the living conditions around him or to face the barbaric punishments while taking a childlike look at a dehumanizing historical reality.

Abstract Our aim is to examine the extinction of humanity as predicted by Matei Visniec and the borderline situations where he envisages the death of the human being ; and, then, to see how he (the writer) imagines the creation of the chance of success. To this end, we question his conception about the world, about life, his capacity of showing - through an inter-subjectivity which regularly lacks - one’s complete lack of experience, this hypothetically being the fundamental cause of identity annihilation, of failure of comprehension and acceptance and ultimately the fundamental cause of the death of language and communication. We will examine Matei Visniec’s way of creating hybrid genres, characters, behaviours in order to suggest a possible end of this action.

Abstract The article explores the actualisations of the concepts of pudency and indecency in Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s short story La Rêveuse d’Ostende. The author tries to demonstrate that the oscillation between pudency and indecency creates an intense erotic tension which maintains the narrative tension. The leading idea at the end of the analysis is that characthers’ interior tension due to sensual experiences influences the narrative’s process tension.

Abstract Some of the published or unpublished works of my father, Voltaire Deronne alias Robert Reus (1909-1988), display a strong autobiographical character. Robert Reus thus adopted several attitudes towards the treatment, modest or immodest, reserved or “exhibitionist,” of important elements in his life (his first marriage in 1943, his wife’s death in 1953, and other deaths in his family between 1945 and 1948). This article describes the writer’s strategies, ranging from silence to exhibitionism. His practices (or his conscious choices) as well as his theoretical aesthetic positions send us back to the writer’s personal history and to the way in which he reconstructs or reinvents it several times, in an opaque manner that suits him and which can be deciphered only by a family member exegete-editor.

Abstract Several haunting themes inhabit the border writing of Agota Kristof including incest between brother and (half)sister and schizoid twinhood. Whereas fusion and duplication treats her in-between position between East and West as well as between a younger brother whom the mother considered as her favourite and an elder brother whom she herself passionately loved, the issue of a deuleuzian decontextualization and the representation of the suppression of incest motivating her writing range from a rejection to an approach of the Oedipus complex. The urge to write has finally faded away leaving a last uncompleted and unpublished novel, about which she speaks in her interviews and whose destiny could be related to a painful focalisation on a personal myth linked to a friend and surrogate father. Kristof died in 2011. She was 75 years old.

Abstract In this article, we aim to study the term Estitude by focusing on books by Dumitru Tsepeneag (The Dustying Word), Katalin Molnár (Lamour Dieu) et Nancy Huston (The Lost North). Coming from three different countries (Romania, Hungary and Canada), these three writers are similar as far as their relation to their new creative language is concerned, in this case French. Making use of the new language first presupposes minimalising the importance of one’s native tongue (Romanian, Hungarian and English), but this minimalisation is inappropriate as it indicates one’s exile. At the same time, adoting the French language may prove to be an opportunity, which allows one to research the origins of writing itself : thus, the exiled writer can profit from lingustic calque, lingustic mistakes, literal translation of proverbs and other expressions of his / her native language, of transcript of orality, etc. Being unable to attach himself/herself to a geographical area, the exiled is condamned to live between two countries (the country of origin and the receiving country), between two languages (the native language and the adopted language) and to suffer from a certain complex of superiority. Having a certain social and political experience, s/he stands out among natives, but s/he always runs the risk of being perceived in the « flagrante delicto of strangeness ».

Abstract Violence and its devastating effects challenge writers more than ever. Based on the novel L’Attentat [The Attack] (Julliard, 2005), by the Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra, this paper aims to demonstrate that the writing of violence is both the consequence and the mirror of today’s world convulsions. The analytical approach is focused on the functions of this type of writing, the various forms of violence and their problematic aspects, as well as on the relation of a discourse explaining terrorism with a humanist pacifist discourse, as it appears in the novel.

Abstract Immodesty is a process of questioning the norms and principles that a society shares. But the shameless speech of Africans who live and publish in France became in norma practice, even expected and exhibited by the media. If there is a truly impudence, it consists to assert the identity of an afropeanity in the heart of the European project, which rejects the dehumanization of the world on the back of the Occident and promotes spiritual values of Islam. Afropean writers overturn the tables of the temple of the Republic to expel the merchants. This verbal abuse is not done to please but to awake consciences.
