as well as semi-structured interviews with hut keepers and owners, will be presented for a sample of huts in the Valais Alps (Switzerland). This analysis allowed us to confirm (i) the general decline in the number of mountaineers visiting the high mountains in summer, with an 11% drop in the number of overnight stays between 1995-98 and 2016-19 in the 8 huts studied; (ii) the concentration of mountaineers on technically easy and/or emblematic and/or quickly accessible routes; and (iii) the development of ski touring, with a 6% increase in the number of overnight stays in spring between 1995-1998 and 2016-2019.

dealing with nature. These tourist practices are not without effects on the environment: as we will see through field observations that these protected territories are quickly taken over and are now overwhelmed by their success. The mountain regions and certain natural areas then suddenly undergo strong anthropogenic pressures, leaving certain managers “stunned” by this influx of visitors in search of connections with nature.

In the mountain and foothill areas of Corsica, livestock farming is still based on the use of pastureland, which gives the animals access to spontaneous resources. Faced with the multiplication of emerging diseases, public policy standards on animal health consider that the maintenance of free-range areas presents a risk of emergence because they allow interactions between wild and domestic animals. Focusing on pig farming, this article examines the contradictions between these standards and the issues specific to Corsican pastoral farming and looks at the development of local public policy in response to these contradictions. After recalling the close link between the socio-economic transformations that took place inthe Corsican mountains after the Second World War and current pastoral livestock farming practices, it shows that the failure of two public health management policies is linked to the disconnect between the issues at stake in public policy on the one hand and in pastoral livestock farming on the other. Local actors involved in health management are mobilising and developing intermediary consultation and coordination mechanisms to respond to situations of deadlock, by embedding national management and surveillance challenges in territorial dynamics. The article proposes the notion of health territory to describe the emergence of transversal collective action that draws on the knowledge of local actors to produce public policy that is adapted to the challenges of Corsican pastoral livestock farming.

This article contrasts two periods of time in the Arve Valley, during which particular attention was paid to the links between human health and the environment, but with diametrically opposed perceptions. Historically, the Plateau d'Assy in the Arve Valley was a major healthcare destination, particularly specializing in the treatment of tuberculosis between the 1920s and 1970s. From the 19th century onwards, a collective imagination emerged around the myth of clean air of the mountains. Alpine regions broadly benefited from being considered particularly sanitary

We analysed the role of artistic approaches to evaluate different aspects that contribute to a good quality of life. We showed that certain artistic approaches have levers for action that can be conducive to a good quality of life. The article follows a pragmatic research methodology. It supports artistic creation and analyses the methodological approach of the artists themselves. The authors of this article were embedded in the artistic process. Our case study is a travelling theatre group (http://www.theatredeschemins.org/). They contributed to the co-construction of a walking theatre performance in the Val Venosta in South Tyrol (Alto Adige)/Italy. This allowed us to identify and assess the links between the emotional state of local inhabitants, and identities linked to place and environment based on 17 semi-directive interviews. We hypothesised that artistic approaches reveal factors relevant to a good quality of life that remains invisible by conventional research methods. The scientific support in this process helps to direct their creation towards a transformation and improvement of the quality of life. We discuss three identified aspects that contribute to a good quality of life: (1) Awareness of environmental changes and attachment to a territory; (2) Satisfaction of and a desire for a shared life; (3) Strengthening of (self-)identity.
