Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of perceived social support on postpartum depression (PPD) in Arab immigrant mothers and Turkish mothers. Design/methodology/approach This descriptive study was conducted with 140 mothers between September 2017 and January 2018. The data was collected via the Turkish and Arabic versions of the sociodemographic questionnaire, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Percentage and arithmetic mean calculations, independent samples t-test, Mann–Whitney U test, paired logistic regression analysis backward elimination method and Pearson and Spearman correlation analyses were conducted to analyze the data. Findings The data revealed that the risk of PPD was twice as high in Arab immigrant mothers (56.3%) compared to Turkish mothers (29%). The EPDS mean score was 12.37 ± 6.28 for Arab immigrant mothers and 8.81 ± 5.48 for Turkish mothers. The social support mean score was found to be 50.70 ± 19.27 for Arab immigrant mothers and 61.41 ± 16.51 for Turkish mothers. The independent risk factors for Turkish mothers included mother’s age, monthly income level and infant’s age, while the independent risk factors for Arab immigrant mothers included number of children, husband’s status of employment and access to regular medical care during pregnancy. The negative correlation between EPDS and social support overall scores and subscale scores was found to be significant for both groups. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study on the impact of social support on PPD in Arab immigrant and Turkish women in the national and international literature. The study helped reveal the correlation between perceived social support and PPD, the PPD risk rates and risk factors according to citizenship status for the first time.

Purpose This study aimed at exploring support for older people in protracted displacement in Nigeria, emphasising the available support and the gap in the support provided to them. Design/methodology/approach Qualitative interviews were used to collect data from ten displaced older people in New-Kuchingoro internally displaced persons (IDP) camp Abuja, Nigeria. The collected data were analysed thematically with NVivo 12. Findings Results show that older people received material, emotional and psychological supports from their families, neighbours, friends, religious organisations and non-governmental organisations. Several gaps were identified in the support provided to displaced older people. For example, their special nutritional or medical needs were neglected, and their support was primarily material, sporadic and spontaneous, as there is no existing framework guiding the care and support of older people in displacement. Research limitations/implications This study provides a foundation for further research on older people in displacement, an area that has received minimal scholarly attention. Practical implications The paper recommends that researchers and displaced persons’ care providers should pay more attention to the peculiar support needs of this less visible vulnerable group and adopt the internal displacement policy for the long-term protection of older people in displacement. Originality/value Older people in displacement remain less visible as humanitarian aid programmes and research focus more on women and children. This lack of attention may put older people in displacement at more risk as their peculiar needs may not be met. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to examine the gap in support for older people in displacement in Nigeria.

Purpose Migration appears to be a determinant in health-care utilisation, particularly among the elderly in India. Ageing and migration are essential socio-demographic phenomena in the 21st century for developing and developed countries to establish better public health-care policies. This study aims to focus on the status and determinants of health-care utilisation among elderly migrants who have migrated after attaining the age of 45 and above. Design/methodology/approach This study used the data from the first wave of the longitudinal ageing study in India (LASI) in 2017–2018. Two outcome variables were used to examine the health-care utilisation, including in-patient and out-patient care. Binary logistic regression was used to explore the predictors of healthcare utilisation in terms of in-patient and out-patient care among the elderly migrant population. Findings A total of 82.9% of elderly migrants had visited out-patient care when they were sick, whereas 15.3% have used in-patient care. Enabling factors, such as wealth quintile and health insurance, and need factor, such as chronic disease and self-rated health, were more significant factors influencing the health-care utilisation. Originality/value This study contributes to our understanding of older migrants’ health-care utilisation. Focussing on this study’s outcome, policymakers and decision makers may consider improving older migrants’ access to health-care by raising their income level, offering local health insurance and health awareness programs.

Purpose This paper aims to explore the role of family members in human trafficking and how their roles impact and are perceived by their children and wards. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses data collected through a longitudinal, cross-country study. The study was conducted among 31 female, Nigerian victims of trafficking in Italy. Findings The authors argue that family members play important, howbeit diverse roles across space and time, in the different stages of the trafficking process, echoing a relational approach of their geographies. Originality/value This paper discusses the under-researched role of how family members may (wilfully or unknowingly) facilitate and aid the trafficking of their dependents and the consequences of their involvement on their children and wards.

Stroke is a clinical syndrome of acute, focal neurological deficits associated with vascular injury of the central nervous system. Stroke is not a single disease but can be caused by various risk factors, processes, and disease mechanisms. Ischemic stroke is the most common stroke, about 80-90% of all strokes. Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) states that the prevalence of stroke that occurs in Indonesia is 10.9%, with the highest prevalence in the Riau Islands (12.9%) and the lowest in Papua (4.1%). This literature is written to compare the effectiveness of mono and dual antiplatelets as a non-embolic ischemic stroke therapy. The method in this study was a literature review that was searched using Pubmed, Google Scholar, Medline, Ebsco, Hindawi, Science Direct, and Cochrane, published in the last ten years. After obtaining the appropriate literature, the manuscript is written. Based on the results of the study, dual antiplatelet administration was more effective in preventing recurrent ischemic stroke and cardiovascular events in ischemic stroke patients when compared to mono antiplatelet. The recommended dual antiplatelet drugs are Clopidogrel and Aspirin. Based on the literature search, it can be concluded that dual antiplatelet administration is more effective in preventing recurrent ischemic stroke in stroke patients. However, some literature states that dual antiplatelet administration must still consider the potential increased risk of bleeding.

Cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) frequently occurs in the first year of life, with a prevalence of 23% in the infant population. Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a severe non-IgE (immunoglobin E) presentation—mediated food allergy, which CMPA frequently causes. FPIES is frequently misdiagnosed initially due to its non-specific symptoms and laboratory findings. We present a case of a three-month-old male infant with allergic colitis due to CMPA. The patient was initially diagnosed with infectious colitis, which was then found to be allergic. The patient also did not tolerate extensively hydrolyzed formula and needed amino acid formula. The patient was discharged home in a stable condition. This research implies an increase in awareness and health education among parents, especially those with young infants. The findings of this study can also have an impact on changes in healthcare services and encourage the development of substitute milk products more suitable for infants with cow's milk protein intolerance.

Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a severe non-IgE (immunoglobin E) presentation—mediated food allergy, which CMPA frequently causes. FPIES is frequently misdiagnosed initially due to its non-specific symptoms and laboratory findings. We present a case of a three-month-old male infant with allergic colitis due to CMPA. The patient was initially diagnosed with infectious colitis, which was then found to be allergic. The patient also did not tolerate extensively hydrolyzed formula and needed amino acid formula. The patient was discharged home in a stable condition. This research implies an increase in awareness and health education among parents, especially those with young infants. The findings of this study can also have an impact on changes in healthcare services and encourage the development of substitute milk products more suitable for infants with cow's milk protein intolerance.","PeriodicalId":44967,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Migration Health and Social Care","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87086368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
The purpose of this case is to see the effects of mesenchymal umbilical cord treatments when applied to patients with Autism. The observations are of patients attending the main clinic, "Celltech Stem Cell and Banking," in Jakarta, Indonesia. Findings on pre-treatments showed abnormally varying behaviors, physically as well as psychologically. The treatments were conducted at the Celltech Stem Cell Lab clinics in Jakarta, based on good reasons that MCSUC are well-sourced, easy to collect and preserved, besides its traits of multi-directional differentiation. Patients undergoing the treatments showed calm and friendly behaviors and of the five cases presented, all fulfilled the pre-set standard criteria of recovery. This research has implications for paving the way for the development of innovative stem cell therapies for children with autism.
