This research aims to examine how challenges faced by women entrepreneurs affect their entrepreneurial abilities, as measured by the entrepreneurial capability scale, and to develop effective entrepreneurship strategies. A total of 420 women from diverse regions in Turkey participated in assessing their entrepreneurship capabilities using a comprehensive 36-item scale covering four distinct dimensions. To evaluate challenges encountered by women entrepreneurs, a 26-item scale was employed, encompassing three distinct dimensions. Among these challenges, the perception of gender discrimination and societal pressure emerges as a critical issue, as women experiencing higher levels of discrimination and societal expectations tend to face more obstacles in their entrepreneurial journey. Sector-specific challenges present a significant barrier, with women encountering industry-related difficulties reporting a higher number of business problems. Women grappling with substantial challenges within their businesses demonstrate an increased perception of both gender discrimination and sector-specific challenges. The findings underscore the importance of future-focused initiatives, strategies for managing challenges, reducing gender discrimination, fostering a mindset oriented toward risk and success, and recognizing internal obstacles to enhance women’s entrepreneurial capabilities. Targeted support programs aimed at addressing biases, nurturing a forward-thinking mindset, building resilience, promoting risk-taking, and overcoming internal barriers are recommended. Moreover, the study offers insights into coping mechanisms for challenges and perceptions of business problems. Optimal strategies in education and technical support are identified, showing significant potential for empowering women entrepreneurs. These findings contribute to the understanding of women entrepreneurship in Turkey and offer practical recommendations for stakeholders.

Through bibliometric analysis, this paper aimed at facilitating stakeholders like researchers, academicians, and policy makers in addressing the emerging concept of subjective well-being of entrepreneurs in the turbulent times like COVID-19 pandemic. Scopus database has been used as a source of data. Performance analysis and science mapping have been applied on 127 published documents retrieved from Scopus. The different aspects focused by the present research were publication output, country collaboration map, sub-network of publication countries, co-occurrence of keywords, citation of authors, contributing authors, co-citation of authors, and co-citation of journals. By applying text mining technique, 6 clusters were identified followed by mapping the trend topics in the area. The focus on addressing subjective well-being of entrepreneurs during the times of crisis like COVID-19 is a novel contribution to the literature. In order to enhance the generalizability and reliability of the results, bibliometrics was performed with the application of two highly effective tools, i.e., VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, which is a value addition to the existing research.

This research study has been done to uncover the important aspects of the research in the context of entrepreneurship as a tool to deal with the problem of unemployment in economies by understanding the trends of research studies, contributing authors, and their research contributions. The literature review in this research study has been done using bibliometric analysis and content analysis through the 316 research studies published in ABDC-rated journals from 2012 to 2022. The findings suggest that the previous studies focused on studying the different aspects, like the relationship between unemployment and entrepreneurship, the role of education and training, and the impact of public policies on employment generation aspects of entrepreneurship, along with the performance assessment of the entrepreneurial firms. However, the emphasis of previous studies was less on the performance assessment of the firms that started after unemployment. The findings from the literature review also revealed the impact of the rapidly evolving technological transformations due to artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies and the rising gig economy-based environment on employment generation and entrepreneurial endeavors in economies. This suggests that policymakers and practitioners look into designing relevant and effective policies and educational programs aligning with the changing employment and entrepreneurial landscape due to the impact of technology.

This article offers a discourse on institutional factors relating to micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) incidences in the Philippines. The analyses in this study utilized data from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank (WB), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This study analyzes data for a 14-year observation horizon from 2008 to 2021. Manifest variables in the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) are regulatory quality, the tertiary school enrollment gender ratio, per capita gross domestic product (GDP) and incidences of unemployment. From the PLS-SEM path model, the social and governance construct positively and significantly influences economic development. In turn, macroeconomic development significantly increases the number of MSMEs in the country. In particular, the female-to-male enrollment ratio at the tertiary education level and per capita GDP are significantly influential variables. Implications from these findings inform government policies that affect women at the tertiary education level and economic development policies. Findings from this study offer evidence that legislators may craft laws and government programs that benefit not only women and businesses but, more so, the overall economic growth of their nations. To the knowledge of the authors, there is not yet a study that empirically tests the relationships between social and governance issues, economic development and MSME frequency using the PLS-SEM technique.

Purpose

Rural entrepreneurship has become a popular research topic in the last few years. Recent studies use a variety of qualitative, multivariate, and descriptive techniques. Several literature reviews and bibliometric studies have been conducted to present and analyze the current literature. These bibliometric studies have primarily concentrated on citation analysis, country analysis, journal analysis, and the identification of themes related to rural entrepreneurship. However, those findings offered no clear direction for future research in this field and were ambiguous about the topics on which future research could be conducted. This study attempts a bibliometric study and presents potential scope.

Methodology

The Scopus database was used to locate relevant articles published in scientific journals. This study includes 220 articles published between 2002 and 2022. Bibliometric was carried out using biblioshiny of the R software. The study was focused on performance analysis, scientific mapping, and network approach. Thematic analysis was used to determine the significant research themes and major rural entrepreneurship clusters for future research.

Findings

The results of this study focused on displaying most pertinent authors, articles, and titles in the field of rural entrepreneurship. The thematic analysis results showed the key areas falling in four different quadrants, i.e., niche, motor, emerging/declining, and basic themes.

Implications for theory and practice

This study will help in capturing the present research areas as well as the prospective research paths for researchers and practitioners interested in the topic of rural entrepreneurship. It also includes comparative study between other nations and industries, multidisciplinary approaches, research gaps, emerging trends, and policy implications.

Originality and value

This study examines the evolution of rural entrepreneurship and their mainstream research fields and frontiers in the twenty-first century. The results of this study may be considered unique in identifying current trends in rural entrepreneurship research and recommending a directive for future researchers.

This research seeks to examine the interaction between customer value analytics (CVA) and performance of SMEs through the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory’s viewpoint. In this study, data was acquired by surveying 225 SMEs recognised by the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) as food processors in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Analysis of the impact of CVA on SMEs’ performance was conducted using the path analysis approach of structural equation modelling (SEM). The results of the study showed that CVA had a substantial and positive effect on performance of SMEs in the areas of internal processes of business, learning and development, customers, and finance. Findings from this study further demonstrate how crucial CVA components—data mining (DM), Internet of Things (IoT), and analytic hierarchy process (AHP)—are to the functioning of SMEs. The research findings provide strong evidence for the proposition of the RBV theory. The results of the present research corroborate prior studies that propose that SMEs ought to view CVA and its determinants—like IoT, DM, and AHP—as a crucial competitive asset and capability that could potentially augment their expansion in areas like finance, customer acquisition, internal business operations, and learning and development. This study advances the understanding of CVA and SMEs’ performance, particularly in emerging market economies.

Purpose

Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) constitute the nation’s foundation and facilitate the advancement of invention and economic progress. Sustainability is considered the latest paradigm in the manufacturing sector. SMEs need to use innovative production and management technologies to address triple bottom line (TBL) sustainability to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The current research focuses on identifying and prioritizing barriers to sustainability in SMEs.

Methodology

The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is used to prioritize sustainability barriers in SMEs. A hierarchical framework is developed based on six main criteria and seven alternatives. The six criteria are cost, risk, innovation, feasibility, stakeholders, impact, and seven alternatives: employee satisfaction, training, energy efficiency, procurement, awareness, renewable sources, and waste reduction. The Super Decisions software V3.2 applied relative weights to these criteria and alternatives, utilizing the AHP, a multi-criteria decision method (MCDM), to evaluate the SME owner responses from 116 SMEs.

Findings

The AHP analysis highlights economic considerations, with cost given the highest weight of 0.42. Government support via incentives, tax breaks, subsidies, or financing is essential to address this issue. Impact (0.31) and feasibility (0.11) are also critical, underscoring the need for proactive sustainability measures in SMEs. The study provides a thorough grasp of sustainability challenges and offers a strategic framework for SMEs and policymakers. Prioritizing staff training, energy efficiency, employee satisfaction, public awareness, waste reduction, renewable energy, and procurement is advised to enhance sustainability practices.

Currently, migrant entrepreneurship grows rapidly in the globe. This research study is an attempt to investigate factors and challenges influencing female migrant entrepreneurship in the business landscape of India. The research question leading the study is: ‘What factors are responsible to impact on the rise of female migrant entrepreneurship in India and what challenges female migrant entrepreneurship faces?’ To answer the question, the study has employed the semi-experimental and observational research methods of quantitative research design. To investigate the impacts of push and pull factors on female migrant entrepreneurship, semi-experimental research method has been employed while investigating challenges the observational research method has been considered in the study. Data were collected from 250 female migrant entrepreneurs using closed-ended questionnaires and a survey. The study has found that the pull factors of government policy, independence in business, financial gain, marketing facility, access to resources and work life, all positively influence female migrant entrepreneurship. Accordingly, discontent with the trading climate in one’s native country, unemployment and individual goals positively impact on female migrant entrepreneurship by pushing female migrant entrepreneurs to India’s trade landscape to initiate a business. The findings concluded that the pull factor of ‘availability of infrastructure’ doesn’t influence female migrant entrepreneurship while the push factor of ‘limitation in the growth of trade in the home country’ positively influences female migrant entrepreneurship. The study has also revealed that the challenges of identity crisis, language barrier, cultural difference in trade, administrative procedures, market competitiveness, financial instability, and discrimination based on foreignness influence female migrant entrepreneurship in India. However, based on the results, the challenges of currency exchange barrier and communication barrier in the entrepreneurial process of female migrant entrepreneurship in India have been found insignificant. This study will help policymakers to make a good policy for the growth and development of female migrant entrepreneurship in India by providing with the knowledge of push and pull factors and challenges of female migrant entrepreneurship.

Apiship is conceptualized as a way of earning where one produces honey for sale by rearing bees to earn livelihood. Honey is the primary commercial output of apiship. Because of its expanding and ever-increasing market demand, apiship has become an essential source of self-employment and income, ultimately leading to poverty alleviation. This study examines factors influencing apientrepreneurs to choose apiship as a primary occupation and men’s dominant status in apiship. This study adopts a positivist approach to philosophy that undertakes quantitative examination of findings. Data were collected from 800 apientrepreneurs using a survey with closed-ended questionnaires. The study revealed that the pull factors of amount of investment, risk in investment, demand for the produce, amount of work, income stability, and flexibility in working time and the push factor of unemployment all have significant positive impacts on apientrepreneurs’ decision to pursue apiship as a primary occupation. The study further found that age, education, and desire for independence are independent of the choice of apiship as a primary occupation. The study also found that the driving factors of reluctance of woman, stinging nature, cultivating related crops, tendency of awareness among women, and work as a helper of man significantly influence men’s dominant status in apiship. The study’s identification of driving factors influencing the choice of apiship as a primary occupation highlights the need for policymakers to create favorable policies for leveraging these motivating factors to attract unemployed individuals to take up apiship. The study’s findings on the driving factors of men’s dominant status in apiship could also help policymakers to make proper policies to make women aware of apiship.
