Care Structures for the Assessment, Diagnostic and Treatment in Cases of Sexual Abuse in Childhood and Adolescence The present article provides an overview of care structures for the assessment, diagnostic and treatment of children and adolescents following sexual abuse in Germany, illustrated by the Department of Trauma and Child Protection at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The complexity of such cases requires interdisciplinary diagnostics and cross-sectoral cooperation to enhance the confidence and security of all parties involved and to ensure child-friendly and child-centered procedures. Institutions such as child protection outpatient clinics or Childhood- Houses play a central role in the assessment and diagnostic process. In addition, trauma outpatient clinics are indispensable for providing early psychotherapeutic support. Ensuring the nationwide availability of such services is essential to reduce the number of unrecognized and untreated cases.

Sexual Abuse and Technology-Facilitated Sexual Abuse: An Overview of Current Epidemiology, Definitions, and Consequences for Affected Children and Adolescents Child sexual abuse represents a growing global problem, increasingly reflected in technologyfacilitated child sexual abuse. In Germany, a total of 18,085 cases of child sexual abuse were registered in 2024, while technology-facilitated abuse has risen sharply in recent years. In 2023, the number of cases involving the production, distribution, acquisition, and possession of abusive material reached a new peak of 45,191 cases (plus 7.4 %) and has more than tripled since 2019 (Bundeskriminalamt, 2024). There are fluid transitions between sexual abuse and technology-facilitated sexual abuse. The article examines the long-term psychosocial, physical, and neurobiological consequences for those affected, which are diverse and often extend to the entire social environment. Particular emphasis is placed on the specific burden of technology- facilitated abuse, where the digital presence of abusive material can lead to persistent feelings of helplessness and prolong the experience of abuse. In light of the persistently high rate of child sexual abuse and the increasing prevalence of technology-facilitated sexual abuse, the need for comprehensive prevention and intervention strategies is underscored. The article also emphasizes the importance of early awareness-raising and training to effectively support affected children and adolescents.

From Plasters to Heart Surgery - An Insight into the Psychosocial Care of Children and Young People Who Have Been Victims of (Technology-Assisted) Sexualised Violence Sexual abuse in childhood - particularly in its technology-assisted form - constitutes a profound psychosocial burden with far-reaching individual and systemic consequences. Affected children and youth often exhibit somatic, emotional, cognitive, and social symptoms of varying intensity. Child protection, psychosocial stabilization, and trauma-specific therapy must be understood as graduated, interlinked components. Trauma-focused interventions such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and KID-NET (child adapted version of Narrative Exposure Therapy) are evidence-based methods that require high professional competence and standardized training. Child Abuse Evaluation Clinics, Barnahus Model (known in Germany primarily as Childhood House) and Trauma Outpatient Clinics represent complementary structures: the former integrate interdisciplinary child protection and judicial processes, while the latter provide low threshold psychotraumatological first aid. Core elements of trauma-informed care include attention to psychological basic needs, prevention of re-traumatization, and trauma- sensitive communication and documentation. Professional knowledge about digital forms of violence and legal frameworks is essential to provide adequate support and protection. For psychotherapists, engaging with trauma-focused exposure-based psychotherapy methods should be regarded as a central component of the therapeutic competence profile.

Dimensions of the Therapeutic Relationship in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy - Development and Validation of a Questionnaire Time-economic instruments with high conceptual breadth to assess the therapeutic alliance are missing in child and adolescent psychotherapy. To address this research gap, the newly developed Youth Alliance Scale (YAS) was validated in the current study. 168 patients and their therapists participated in the study and completed the YAS, consisting of 20 items and with a completion time of approximately 10-15 minutes. To the same measurement time point, an already existing therapeutic alliance questionnaire with a more limited conceptual scope was also completed. An external assessment of symptom severity was provided by the patients' parents. The YAS showed from patient and therapist perspective factor structures that mostly confirmed our hypotheses and showed significant associations to an established measure of therapeutic alliance. However, there were no significant associations to symptom severity. With some psychometric limitations, an economic measure with high conceptual breadth to assess therapeutic alliance in child and adolescent psychotherapy is now available. The instrument can be applied in research and routine care for the close-meshed monitoring of the most important components of the therapeutic alliance.
