Objective: to identify the health beliefs of lesbian and bisexual women about performing the Papanicolaou’s test. Methods: cross-sectional study developed exclusively online, with fifty-five participants. Google Forms® were used for data collection, with sociodemographic and economic questions, as well as questions related to practices, intention, and beliefs about performing the Papanicolaou’s test. Data were organized in Google Sheets® and analyzed in SPSS® software. Results: it was found that bisexual women believe more in the benefit "when I do the preventive exam, I am relieved" (p=0.047). However, they have higher scores of ashamed for doing the preventive exam (p=0.005). Significant association was identified between having done the exam and perceived benefits (p=0.040); perceived severity and education level (p=0.006); having done the exam (p=0.039); and having fixed partnership (p=0.028). Conclusion: bisexual women believe that performing the exam generates relief, but feelings of shame may hinder adherence to the exam. Lesbian and bisexual women without access to higher education, who never had the exam, and who have multiple sexual partnerships are more vulnerable to cervical cancer. Contributions to practice: reflect on this scenario so that educational strategies are effective for cervical cancer prevention.

Objective: to estimate the prevalence and associated factors with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection in youths. Methods: cross-sectional study in two Centers for Testing and Counseling, with 279 youths from 15 to 24 years old. An anti-HIV test and a structured instrument were applied. We used bivariate analysis and logistic regression, with Bonferroni corrections, to investigate the association between the variables and the outcome. Results: the prevalence of HIV in the youth analyzed was 3.9% (Confidence interval - CI95%: 1.0-10.1). The association with the outcome of HIV was statistically significant in male youth (p=0.001), homosexuals (p<0.001), those who tested due to sexual exposure (p=0.034), perception of a high risk of acquiring HIV (p=0.002), and anal sex (p=0.004). Homosexual youth (odds ratio-OR=13.46; CI95%;1.14-15.84), with a perception of high risk of acquiring HIV (OR=18.11; CI95%: 2.28-143.69) had a higher chance of being HIV positive. Conclusion: the prevalence of HIV and associated factors in youth was ascertained. Contributions to practice: the information produced here shows evidence for those who aim to formulate policies, including health managers and workers. It can give support to the elaboration of strategies that involve perfecting preventive, coordinated actions, adjusted to behavioral contexts in the settings studied.

Objective: to understand the possibilities and barriers in the everyday lives of primary care professionals for health promotion of Haitian immigrant families. Methods: qualitative interpretative research, based on the theoretical foundations of Comprehensive Sociology and Everyday life Sociology. Twenty-seven Primary Health Care professionals who assist Haitian immigrant families participated. Data were collected using an electronic form in Google Forms and submitted to Thematic Analysis. Results: three categories emerged: Public policies and specific actions; Potentialities in health promotion to Haitian families; and Professional everyday life and limitations to health promotion. Conclusion: professionals perceive that their professional everyday lives have the potential to promote the health of Haitian immigrant families. However, they recognize the limits related to language barriers, political conception, and social organization. To overcome these limits, it is believed necessary to strengthen existing policies and promote changes in the organization of services. Contributions to practice: the understanding of the potentials and limits will enable managers and professionals to reflect not only on changes in the work process, but also on changes in the everyday work, implementing effective strategies for Health Promotion.

Objective: to understand the knowledge and practice of Primary Health Care nurses about gender and assistance to LGBTQIA+ people. Methods: qualitative study, conducted with nine nurses from Primary Health Care. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and submitted to Thematic Content Analysis. Results: three categories emerged: knowledge about gender and the LGBTQIA+ population; perception of the National LGBT Comprehensive Health Policy; and demand for services and nursing care for the LGBTQIA+ public. Conclusion: it was evidenced deficient knowledge about gender and health of the LGBTQIA+ population. There is a lack of preparation of the professionals who assist these users, which causes barriers to access to care and services, due to the lack of knowledge about the existence of the national policy of integral health of this population. Nurses focus on punctual and biologist actions. Contributions to practice: the findings contribute to subsidize the thinking/doing of nursing regarding vulnerable populations, who need an equitable, integral, and humanized look. It is necessary to strengthen discussions in health training and continuing education to expand knowledge about gender, the access of the LGBTQIA+ population to services and the consolidation of the actions of the national health policy aimed at this population group.

Objective: to investigate the actions of nurses in regard to lesbian and bisexual women in the context of the National Policy for the Integral Health of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Cross-Dressers and Transgender Persons. Methods: qualitative study involving 25 nurses from the Family Health Strategy, contacted via electronic means. We applied a form containing sociodemographic data and an investigation of actions in primary health care, as well as a thematic content analysis. Results: we found there are professional capacitation activities, embracing of demands, and enhanced interprofessional work. Nonetheless, there were shortcomings in the knowledge regarding health care towards lesbian and bisexual women. Conclusion: there are still prejudices, difficulty to access, and little attendance of lesbian and bisexual women in health services, as well as a deficit in the support to health actions and lack of monitoring. Contributions to practice: the importance of the scientific, professional, and social experiences stand out, regarding the need to humanize the care to lesbian and bisexual women. It is a supporting material for researchers and nursing professionals, enabling them to direct their care to a holistic and integral care to be provided to these women, in addition to being an encouragement to further comparative studies.

Objective: to understand the perception of the LGBTQIA+ elderly person about social and programmatic vulnerability. Methods: qualitative study developed with ten elderly persons. The collection was done through an interview supported by a semi-structured instrument. Elderly people of both sexes and non-binary assisted in a reference center were included. We adopted content analysis through the thematic modality for data systematization. Results: human aging raised discussions about specific needs, such as sexuality. Treated as taboos, elderly individuals who belonged to sexual minority groups suffered double invisibility, especially in health services. Furthermore, the lack of social and family support resulted in psychological suffering and social vulnerability. Conclusion: through the reports, it is possible to identify important gaps in the assistance to the LGBTQIA+ elderly person, such as difficulty of access and generic health practices, which do not consider the particularities of this population, as well as discrimination and lack of spaces for coexistence. Contributions to practice: population aging raises discussions about the adequacy of health services in the face of the specific demands of the elderly, especially regarding sexuality and sexual and gender minorities.

Objective: to understand the experiences of deprivation of freedom from the perspective of men and their implications to health care. Methods: qualitative study carried out with 10 men serving sentences on probation. Data collection was carried out in individual interviews using a semistructured questionnaire. Data was submitted to content analysis. Results: three categories emerged, which were: Crooked life: living before being deprived of freedom; Caged bird: being a man deprived of freedom; and Time bomb: health care in the prison system. The deprivation of freedom is an experience marked by the lack of safety, considering the health risks in the prison environment, the perception of participants of being vulnerable to disease, and the denial, on the part of the state, of the right to health. Since the access to health is not guaranteed, relatives were the most commonly responsible for organizing care. Conclusion: an unhealthy situation was found, with vulnerability to disease and denial of the right to health in the prison environment. Contributions to practice: this study contributed for sensitizing professionals who work in the prison system, emphasizing the importance of guaranteeing human rights during imprisonment.
