The article presents insights into holiday travel and its determinants in Poland. The purpose of the study was to analyze Polish citizens’ modal split and its determinants. Raw data from a pilot survey conducted in 2015 were used as the source material. To identify the determinants of travel mode choice for holiday trips, a multilevel multinomial logit model was utilized. This approach made it possible to include the hierarchical structure of the data, in which respondents are clustered within municipalities. The results reveal that apart from the decision-maker’s socioeconomic characteristics and household attributes, trip characteristics significantly determine Polish citizens’ choice of holiday travel mode. Moreover, the inclusion of municipality-level predictors substantially improved the accuracy of the model. The analysis revealed that the severity of the environmental consequences of motorized transport perceived by respondents also significantly influences their travel mode choice for holiday trips.

On household living conditions. A comparison between capital agglomerations and their popular neighborhoods in Northwestern Argentina 关于家庭生活条件。阿根廷西北部的首都聚集与受欢迎社区的比较

Access to basic facilities such as electricity, running water or sewerage is not homogeneous among households in the provincial capitals of Northwestern Argentina. Th rough the use of the National Registry of Popular Neighborhoods (RENABAP) and by calculating a Housing Suffi ciency Index, we carried out a gradation in the levels of access to these basic facilities by households residing in these popular neighborhoods, identifying in which agglomeration the situation is more positive and in which the opposite situation is recorded. At the same time, using statistics from the Permanent Household Survey, we carried out the same procedure, but applied to the total number of households in each agglomeration. The comparison of both gradations shows significant differences in some of the capital cities, which reflects the existing urban fragmentation.

Factors associated with rural aging in Brazilian municipalities: an analysis using quantile regressions 与巴西城市农村老龄化相关的因素:使用分位数回归分析

In rural Brazil, aging is an important phenomenon for the future of the country’s agricultural production. This process is associated with both increased life expectancy and rural-urban migration. According to studies on migration, young people are more likely to change their place of residence, being attracted by the existence of work opportunities and, consequently, repulsed by their scarcity. This study assumes the rate of rural aging tends to be higher in places where the ratio of urban to rural work opportunities is high. Thus, using spatial dependence models and quantile analysis of data from the 2017 Agricultural Census, the effects of factors associated with income, agrarian structure, and location on rural aging in Brazilian municipalities were assessed. The results suggest rural areas with low attractiveness situated close to urban centers are the most susceptible to population aging and, consequently, rural depopulation.

Recent developments in immigration patterns. A case study in the province of Malaga (Spain) 移民模式的最新发展。以西班牙马拉加省为例

Foreign population play an important role in the Axarquía in the province of Malaga, Spain, where in some municipalities they account for over 40% of residents. Many of them have very small populations, and have come to depend on immigration to maintain population levels. In this context, the objective of our research is to assess the impact that both Brexit and COVID-19 pandemic have had on immigration into these areas. We show how Brexit has led to an increase in the number of britons registered with their Local Councils, in part due to the post-Brexit need to do so; and how the limitations in mobility resulting from the pandemic led to a reduction in immigration into the area to just a few arrivals from nearby areas. We end by showing that just a year later, the migratory movements into the Axarquía had returned to normal levels.

Analysis of delays and cost overruns of road construction projects in the Colombian Caribbean Region 分析哥伦比亚加勒比地区道路建设项目的延误和费用超支情况

Construction projects are constantly threatened by delays and cost overruns that might compromise their viability. Th us, identifying the leading causes of these issues based on the experience of experienced professionals is essential to planning and reducing these risks. This research evaluates the frequency and severity of variables causing delays and cost overruns in Colombian Caribbean Region road projects. Th e nine causes studied in this research were defined through a literature review, preliminary discussion and a pilot test. A survey directed to 42 road construction engineers allowed the authors to characterise these professionals’ perceptions regarding the frequency and severity of these variables in terms of delay and cost overruns, with a confi dence level of 80%. Statistical analyses were applied to the results of the survey to establish which variables generate the most signifi cant impacts when building roads and related works in the Colombian Caribbean Region

Industrial legacy towards modern urban environment: a comparative study of Wroclaw and Brno 工业遗产走向现代城市环境:弗罗茨瓦夫与布尔诺的比较研究

The paper examines the spatial structure of industrial production in the urban environment of two Central European cities, Wroclaw and Brno, and their changes during the transformation from centrally controlled to capitalist economies. The study used mapping techniques to analyse the spatial distribution of industrial activities, focusing on the representation of industrial sectors and major industrial enterprises in both cities. The research aimed to evaluate the spatial impacts of deindustrialization on the urban environment and subsequently interpret the functional and structural changes in the cities. Standard methodological procedures in regional sciences, including descriptive statistics and ArcGIS visualization, were employed. The results revealed similarities and differences in the transformation of the two cities and indicated the substantial scale of their post-industrial transformation. Major structural changes have occurred since the 1990s. The last two decades have been directed towards creating modern post-industrial environments while retaining the significant and visible industrial heritage.

Historical Geographies of Coastal Tourism: Mossel Bay, South Africa c.1850-1988 沿海旅游的历史地理:莫塞尔湾,南非。1850-1988

During the past decade there has occurred a burst of international research and debate on coastal tourism as part of the ‘blue economy’ including a growth of geography-specific scholarship. Arguably, however, within the extant geographical literature there is an overwhelming ‘present-mindedness’ and limited historical perspectives. This paper addresses this neglected knowledge gap by using an historical approach and archival sources to undertake a locality-based study of the historical transitions which have shaped and reshaped one coastal settlement in South Africa. The Mossel Bay area is of considerable historical significance because of its long history of indigenous settlement before the first European contacts triggered by the arrival in 1488 of Bartholomew Diaz and crew who were in search for a trading sea route for Portugal to India. The nature of the colonial growth of tourism in Mossel Bay and the distinctive tourism economy of the town under apartheid is interrogated. This culminated in the scripting of the controversial 1988 Dias festival hosted to celebrate the opening of ‘apartheid’s last museum’ which occurred before Mossel Bay would experience a radical social transition following South Africa’s democratic elections. Overall, the evolutionary pathways and transitions in the historical geography of this coastal locality are the focus of discussion.

Preferences of public space users towards trees and other forms of greenery in Lublin's old town 卢布林老城区的公共空间使用者对树木和其他形式的绿色植物的偏好

Currently, the functions of the historical parts of cities are more and more oriented towards the visitors rather than residents. The high density of cultural heritage objects attracts tourists for whom restaurants and shops are created. Therefore, the management and planning of the historic parts of cities has become an increasing challenge. At the same time, activities aimed at improving the quality of life in the city centre, including the most built-up historical parts, require the introduction of greenery (Kowarik, 2019). In order for such spaces to be effective, we require a greater understanding of user preferences. The aim was to define preferences regarding the presence and use of various forms of greenery and their acceptance in the space of the old town. We also asked a question about the functions of the greenery. The study was conducted using an online survey in Lublin, Poland. The method of virtual development of 4 public spaces presenting various forms of greenery in a built environment was used. It was found that the presence of green elements and their form are very important. Trees in particular have a strong influence on preferences, suggesting that they deserve more attention in historical spaces in cities. Flower beds, plants in pots are accepted. The results show that the current level of development is unsatisfactory, and the respondents point out the need to introduce more greenery. Respondents' preferences related to greenery forms depend mainly on gender and age. Especially women and younger age groups preferred spaces with aesthetically attractive elements, such as flowering herbaceous plants in pots. Most of the respondents declared the use of space as places of rest and recreation, and indicated the climatic, ecological and aesthetic functions as important factors in assessing historical spaces in cities. The results should be taken into account by specialists in urban design in historical spaces subject to revitalization.

Making Post-Dystopian Future Possible: Alternative Policies for Bytom 让后反乌托邦的未来成为可能:Bytom的替代政策

This article follows the argument that urban dystopia is reserved not only for the sphere of the fictional but also as a state of reality that academic methods can capture and describe. Taking the example of the city of Bytom, a traditional centre of coal mining in Southern Poland, the article discusses four spheres where the dystopian present is clearly visible – namely, the four elements that led Bytom to a socio-economic and spatial collapse: depopulation, social polarisation and ghettoisation, degradation of the urban fabric and mining damage. Apart from showing empirical evidence, the article critically considers the possibilities of a post-dystopian urban future for the city. A discussion of possible policy answers to these dystopian trends is based on two possible visions of how the urban future could look. First, the semi-dystopian vision assumes that the expected direction and the results of current policies will lead to some improvement in the quality of the urban environment and the residents’ quality of life. Second, the post-dystopian future is based on an optimistic vision, which assumes that a post-dystopian future is possible. However, the desired salvation from the dystopian present will not come about through the search for new utopian visions. It will rely instead on the improvement and mitigation of some of the substantial social, economic and environmental problems that exist and continue to present an unbreakable social image.

Movement on the Edge of Cities: Analysing Intra-urban Mobility in Peri-urban Communities in Southwest Nigeria 城市边缘的运动:分析尼日利亚西南部城市周边社区的城市内部流动

Mobility plays a crucial role in joining activity's locations to each other, enabling social contact, and facilitating the movement of people and goods from and to various locations. This study investigates the mobility characteristics of peri-urban communities in selected cities of Southwest Nigeria. We selected 505 respondents from the 11 peri-urban communities for the questionnaire survey using a stratified sampling technique. The data were summarised using frequency, mean and mode while ANOVA and Chi-square were used to test for the significant difference in inter-community and gender variations in mobility variables. Findings revealed a substantial variation in the distance separating the peri-urban communities and the city centres. Most of the respondents (81.4%) indicated that the roads in their communities were not paved, with adverse effects on their mobility. The peri-urban communities are served by informal transit modes, with more than 33% of the respondents relying on motorcycles for their mobility needs. Mobility characteristics among the peri-urban dwellers vary from one community to another and between gender. Over 80% of respondents work within the peri-urban interface, indicating increasing decentralisation of activities. The peri-urban dwellers are mobility-starved due to failed infrastructure and informal transit services. The government at all levels (Federal, State and Local) should prioritise improving road infrastructures and public transport services that enhance sustainable mobility at the city peripheries.
