The present study examines the issues of regional development of Kazakhstan in the context of history and real events. The relevance of the study is due to the need to search and adapt the accumulated advanced experience in regional development as a part of smoothing the differentiation of territories in the socio‐economic sphere and the search for effective methods of managing them. The purpose of the study is to search for and identify an effective theoretical model of regional development of the Republic of Kazakhstan that meets the urgent needs for the rational use of the resources available, which is a prerequisite for future economic development, and, as a result, improves the quality of life in the regions. The leading approach in this paper is a combination of analytical and information‐logical methods to determine the existing historical prerequisites and real grounds for the theoretical substantiation of the stages of regional development in Kazakhstan. The results of this study emphasize the need to objectively take into account the peculiarities of the development of the region and its actual state.

The relevance of this study lies in the specific context of the country, where the state plays a crucial role in the development and management of the agricultural sector. With the increasing development of agroindustrial complexes and the need for efficient use of agricultural land, the state has a primary responsibility to ensure optimal utilization of these resources. The purpose of the study is to investigate and compare models of intrafarm land use on the basis of agroindustrial complexes both in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and in the United States as well as in countries of Asia and the European Union. In the furtherance of this goal, the following methods were used: literature review, SWOT analysis, data analysis, case studies and comparative analysis to examine the land use management (LUM) system in Kazakhstan. Specifically, to identify indicators of the economic efficiency of intrafarm land management, the criterion of national economic efficiency was used by comparing costs and benefits in the adoption of various decisions. The study analysed the operation of the land management mechanism in Kazakhstan and proposed innovative solutions on the basis of successful examples from other countries. The manuscript's contribution to the academic dialogue on sustainable land use can provide valuable information and insights for policymakers and scholars interested in improving land management practices.

The current trend of rapid urbanization in the global south is overwhelmed by an ever‐increasing demand for land. This indeed has been exerting an objectionable pressure over peri‐urban land located immediately outside of urban territories. This challenge is more severe in developing countries such as Ethiopia, where the urban and rural land systems are dichotomized and understood in isolation as two distinct entities. The need to broaden and understand perspectives for smooth bridging of urban and rural areas has been gaining more attention in the current discourse of viewing urban challenges and prospects. Hence, this study seeks to broaden perspectives for a smooth transition of urban development into rural areas and across peri‐urban areas in a continuity and guided by a continuum approach to development. A desk review research approach supplemented by key informant interviews was employed as a research method. The findings of this study show that the dichotomized land policy and governance systems, along with the multiplicity of actors or institutions having competing and conflicting interests in peri‐urban land have been hindering urban–rural development interconnectedness and continuity in Ethiopian cities. Moreover, a more nuanced perspective and understanding on the hindering factors for interconnectedness between urban and rural areas relevant for urban land use planning and policy‐making are presented in detail in this study. Concurrently, this study promotes the need for a more inclusive continuum approach to land development policy that responds equally to urban–rural contexts and across peri‐urban areas.

The relevance of the study is conditioned by the fact that the model of environmental accounting and auditing formed in the state can have a significant impact on the financial results of industrial enterprises. Within the framework of the sustainable development goals, environmental issues have come to the forefront and affect all countries in the global community. Consequently, accounting for the costs and benefits of environmental measures is crucial information on environmental activities. The purpose of the study is to investigate the environmental accounting and auditing model of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its impact on management decisions of business entities engaged in activities related to the impact on the environment. The leading method for studying this issue is the empirical one, namely, examining the practice of applying the principles of environmental accounting and auditing, as well as replicable methodology. The study establishes that an effective environmental accounting and auditing system can not only help a company to justify its costs and taxes effectively, but also to obtain certain benefits from the state related to stimulating environmental protection activities. In the Republic of Kazakhstan, the system of environmental accounting and auditing has just begun to take shape, and the model is not yet fully formed. The legal and regulatory framework, the system of control and incentives for law enforcement, and the system of environmental accounting and auditing continue to be developed.

Knowledge and innovation have become a significant source of modern regional development. The paper aims to study the spatial association of innovation and model innovation, besides critiquing regional innovation policy, using the regional knowledge production function approach. At the level of the Egyptian governorates, the number of patent applications has been used as a proxy for innovation. The study uses cross‐sectional data for patents in 2018 with lagged time variables for knowledge input factors. The study contributes towards applying the knowledge production function at the level of the Egyptian governorates for the first time. Exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression are used, using the knowledge sources and localized characteristics. Our analysis found that research and development activities for academic institutions are associated with innovation outputs. In the context of the Egyptian regional innovation system, the contribution of private research activities is perceived to be negligible, and the innovation outputs are highly associated with the spatial association of the Egyptian governorates.

This article estimates the subjective well‐being of the oasis, peripheral and border region of Drâa‐Tafilalet in Morocco through sentiment analysis of its media coverage. We extracted nearly 174,000 articles published between October 1991 and September 2020 from the website of a Moroccan newspaper with a large circulation and detected those covering the region in question. Then, after the preprocessing phase, we analysed the textual data of these articles by determining the sentimental polarity of the words used to build a monthly subjective well‐being indicator for the Drâa‐Tafilalet region. Thus, we identified nine early warnings of local subjective well‐being malaise that were triggered between October 1992 and September 2020.

Today's migration is a rather complex and controversial process. Having a number of advantages and positive results for the development of the receiving and sending countries, it also leads to negative consequences. The more a country's population is involved in migration processes, the more acutely its consequences manifest. The situation is also aggravated by the increasing economic and political crises, which negatively affect the ability of third countries to maintain internal stability. The issue does not exclude the Central Asian region in the context of the intensification of local armed conflicts in adjacent territories and current geopolitical aspects. The study purpose is to assess migration processes and their impact on the Republic of Kazakhstan as the one of the ‘host’ countries in Central Asia. A chronology of key economic events regarding strategic opportunities in the migration processes was carried out. Taking into account the current regional and global challenges, it has been established that the current trends in migration processes have a positive effect on the development of the labor market as an important component of the national economy, contributing to an increase in the welfare of the country. At the same time, the policy of Kazakhstan is also trying to pursue a pragmatic immigration policy to prevent the negative impact of immigrants on the local population.
