Purpose This study aims to develop a model for coordination and communication overhead in distributed software development through case study analysis in the Indian outsourcing software industry. The model is based on business knowledge, which can be classified as domain, regulatory, strategic, business process and operation process knowledge as per existing literature. Design/methodology/approach Double case study method was used to verify an existing knowledge–management framework of software development from the literature. The stakeholders of both the cases were interviewed, and project documents were verified to reach conclusions. Findings The findings supported the business knowledge classification from the literature. The concept can be used to analyze the software project in a distributed environment. Research limitations/implications The research work findings are based only on two case studies. The study findings cannot be generalized and should be used as a learning tool. There can be large variations of project characteristics with differences in business knowledge requirements. The research shows the importance of business knowledge transfer in global software development. Practical implications Projects managers in the distributed software development environment can use the findings in project planning and work allocation for better control over cost and schedule, etc. Originality/value There is little research works attempted to study the business knowledge classification in the global software industry making the research novel.

Purpose This study aims to identify knowledge-related tensions in remote work in higher education institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic and increase understanding of how such tensions can be managed. Design/methodology/approach The research was conducted as an inductive, qualitative study in the field of higher education in Finland. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews of 34 managers in two higher education institutions and analyzed using an inductive and interpretive analysis method. Findings The findings demonstrate that the knowledge-related challenges and opportunities during the remote work period of the COVID-19 pandemic in Finnish higher education institutions can be conceptualized as tensions involved in knowledge codification, knowledge silos and creating new knowledge. The study contributes to research by presenting a framework for managing knowledge-related tensions in remote work arrangements to benefit remote and hybrid work in knowledge-intensive organizations. Practical implications This paper increases the understanding of the tensions in remote work arrangements; the results can help managers understand the challenges and opportunities of remote knowledge work concerning their organization and thereby assist them in management and decision-making in complex operational environments. Originality/value This study adopted the little-used perspective of tensions to examine knowledge management issues. By examining the various affordances that remote work may allow for knowledge-intensive work and higher education institutions, the study contributes to a deepened understanding of knowledge work in remote contexts, the related tensions and their management.

Under the influence of the technological transformation and innovation trend of big data, statistical work and information technology platforms have achieved close integration. The technical implementation scheme of statistical informatization not only effectively supports the improvement of the accuracy of statistical data, but also saves the practical resource cost of statistical work. The big data tools in statistical informatization will play a significant role in ensuring the innovative process of statistical work, innovating the steps and processes of statistical business. Therefore, this article explores the implementation path of big data technology in the process of statistical informatization, and reasonably improves the informatization process of statistical work.

Based on the background of national reading promotion, this paper puts forward a new idea of building a new type of public reading space. It has three characteristics of publicity, public welfare and intelligence. This paper summarizes the concentration problems existing in the construction of public reading space, and puts forward the construction strategies of new public reading space: cross-border combined management, innovative cultural interaction; Rationally set partitions to optimize internal layout; Rely on indoor space to create, strengthen the sense of reading experience. Through the establishment of a diversified public service space system integrating reading, life and aesthetics, the enthusiasm of the whole people for reading is promoted.

: The Five Laws of Library Science, developed by S.R. Ranganathan, provide a foundation for understanding the principles of effective library service. This article explores how librarians can improve their services by applying these laws. The first law, "Books are for use," highlights the importance of user-centered service, while the second law, "Every reader his or her book," emphasizes the importance of collection development. The third law, "Every book its reader," reminds librarians to provide inclusive and diverse collections that meet the needs of all users. The fourth law, "Save the time of the reader," focuses on the importance of efficiency and convenience in library service, while the fifth law, "The library is a growing organism," emphasizes the need for libraries to adapt and innovate to meet the changing needs of their communities. By applying these principles, librarians can create libraries that are responsive, inclusive, and dynamic, and provide valuable resources and services to users of all backgrounds and abilities.
