Abstract The subject of future of libraries recurs regularly, whenever the future of the librarians’ profession is discussed due to the decrease in readership rates, during the reorganization and liquidation of libraries or in the technological context. The article aims to analyze in detail the global visions of libraries formulated so far. Thanks to the categorization, it was possible to identify the main similarities and differences of the analyzed visions, to list the authors and main categories of visions, and to confront new expected social roles of libraries with the sociological and praxeological theory of Pierre Bourdieu, the creator of such concepts as cultural capital or social power. To present the results, the content analysis method and content-based categorization technique were used.

Abstract This study aims to provide a health information model for public access to reliable and up-to-date information resources at public libraries. The study was based on a Sequential-Exploratory Mixed Methods Design and combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Quantitative method was applied for 12 library managers in the health domain as well as officials of the institution of public libraries for whom in-depth and semi-structured interviews were applied. The third group (475 managers of the Iranian public libraries) participated in the quantitative survey. Quantitative results indicated the libraries’ space needs to be extended and the librarians require training courses about health information. Qualitative results, after coding, lead to extraction of ground theory. From the library managers’ point of view, for implementation of this model, a coherent planning and structured memorandum of understanding between public libraries and ministry of health is required. Finally, using the quantitative and qualitative results, the model of health information through public libraries in Iran has been extracted and presented. The present model includes three parts: management actions, strengthen resources, and education. It could be concluded that paying attention on information resources, especially in the field of health information, will lead to an increase in the level of awareness in the society, and consequently health status and quality of life of the people will improve. Thus, considering the variations in the referred people to the libraries, presentation of a health model in the field of health information in public libraries could be promising.

Research data are both datasets and supplementary materials such as interview guides or questionnaires. The theoretical backgrounds of this study are the Lasswell Formula of Communication, the Uses and Gratifications Theory, and the Self-determination Theory, which formed the basis for the construction of an interview guide and the interpretation of the interview transcripts. We performed 11 in-depth interviews with German information scientists, all with experiences with data. The results demonstrate that research data sharing is not a rare practice among information scientists. Abstract The spread of fake news on Covid19 is causing public unrest and suspicion among citizens, which is a challenge for countries facing the pandemic. Countries, governments, and organizations worldwide are putting more effort into combating the infodemic along with finding an effective treatment for Covid19. To collect and summarize the strategies used for combating it and the challenges of managing the infodemic among Asian countries, this systematic review examined 42 articles matched with the inclusion and exclusion criteria by researchers. It was found that the techniques employed by governments to control the infodemic can be classified into three categories: educational activities, technical activities and tool production, and legal activities, and the most challenging way of combatting misinformation is to use social media filtering and legal action.

Abstract The aim of this study was to conduct a comprehensive literature review of the dimensions of open science in research processes. A total of four databases and snowball searching were used for the comprehensive literature review during 2011–2020; then, we were able to find 98 studies based on the inclusion criteria. Also, we used thematic method to review the relevant studies and identified three categories of dimensions in the research process, namely (1) the publication and sharing category including open access, open data, transparency and reproducibility, citizen science, and crowd sourcing; (2) the infrastructure and cultural category including open infrastructure, open education, open tools, budget mechanism, open culture, and communication; and (3) governance and evaluation including policies, governance, and the ethical principles associated with open science. Open science emphasizes the efforts to open and make the scientific research process more inclusive so as to engage the inside and outside actors in the research process.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the service quality of Pakistani university libraries in the context of the user satisfaction. A quantitative survey was conducted to collect data from postgraduate students. The multi-dimensional modified SERVQUAL structured questionnaire consisting of 23 statements was used as a data collection instrument. The results revealed that users were satisfied with the “Empathy” dimension, showing that users were satisfied with the behavior of library staff and the friendly environment between the users and the library personnel. However, there was a gap in the expected service quality and perceived service quality in the four dimensions of SERVQUAL (“Tangible,” “Reliability,” “Responsiveness,” and “Assurance”). The findings of the study would support university library professionals to improve web-based library services. The study would be a useful addition to the body of knowledge.

Abstract Qualitative analytical methods are important in many academic fields, including informatics. Although qualitative content analysis (QCA) is used for text, a coding method for a solo researcher has rarely been discussed. This work suggests a systematic QCA process for single coding based on the inductive-dominant approach. We developed a single coding method with a practical example based on an 11-step process: (1) decide research questions and purposes, (2) collect texts for analysis, (3) determine the unit of analysis, (4) engage in partial inductive coding of the target texts, (5) analyze frequent words found in the text, (6) use these frequent words and inductive coding to create a temporary coding schema, (7) collaborate with multiple experts or researchers to verify the temporary coding schema, (8) code the entire text based on the coding schema, (9) after a certain period, re-code the text based on the coding schema to calculate the intra-rater reliability, (10) confirm the final version of the coding schema, and (11) develop categories through code abstraction. Our process is suitable for a single researcher and for analyzing various text types qualitatively from a specific and consistent perspective. This study provides an exploratory foundation for examining the single coding process.
