The discourse of humour has become a common research topic, but few have analysed the use of humour in environmental cartoons. This study analyses the use of humour in the climate change cartoons of the famous American cartoonist Joel Pett. The analysis explores the verbal and non-verbal means of constructing humour and their interplay. The research was conducted by analysing Joel Pett’s environmental cartoons, examining their content, language and visuals, and identifying the means that enabled the amusing effect. The analysis revealed that the most common verbal means of humour construction in Joel Pett’s climate change cartoons were irony and satire. The study also showed that an interplay between visual and verbal means facilitated humour. In most cases, multimodality, or the interplay between verbal and non-verbal means, was an essential element that allowed the reader to perceive humour. Therefore, it can be suggested that both modes are equally important in the construction of humour in Joel Pett’s environmental cartoons. The results of this study can be used to begin to analyse how humour appears in the work of different environmental cartoonists.

This research paper provides a critical analysis of the Greek child protection system, focusing on the pressing need to transition from institutionalized care to alternative, family-based care solutions. Acknowledging the negative psychosocial and developmental effects of institutionalization, particularly for children with disabilities, the paper presents empirical evidence that underscores the urgency for reform. Historical and contemporary perspectives on child protection are explored, alongside the importance of legislative and community support for de-institutionalization efforts. The study advocates for a systematic overhaul to align the Greek system with international child welfare trends, including the promotion of foster care and adoption. By evaluating the existing legislative landscape, social attitudes, and psychological frameworks, the paper outlines the detrimental impact of institutional care on children's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral outcomes, calling for an inclusive national policy that privileges the well-being and integration of all vulnerable minors within a family-oriented context. The research concludes with recommendations for future work in exploring the practical implementation of family-based care models and assessing the long-term outcomes for children shifted from institutional settings to foster homes.

The aim of this paper was to understand the phenomenon of failure, as a diagnosis, considering the scientific, social, and academic condition of the research. The dimensions and links of educational theories in their different variables such as teaching-learning that are related to teaching practices are also considered. Qualitative methods and techniques were used with students of the economic-administrative area of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. Nowadays, for any society, the performance, and good results of the national education system, including higher education, are of vital importance. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out studies related to the factors that affect the failure rate, since it is necessary to strengthen the information systems to develop an adequate strategic planning and thus generate strategies for improvement and increase the terminal efficiency. Hypothesis The causes of the limitations such as the failure rate of professional level students in the economic-administrative areas at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa are related to the effects of the traditional methodology, where the evaluation process stands out without reconsidering the results and a teaching-learning process with limited student participation. It was found that there are several causal phenomena of failure at the higher level, highlighting among these aspects of student, teacher, and institutional responsibility, so it is recommended that the university authorities address these problems from the aspects related to quality control programmes, such as: accreditation programmes, teacher training, attention to dropout, among others.

This research paper presents a holistic analysis of the foster care system in Greece, exploring its historical evolution, legal nuances, practical concerns, and the recent legislative reforms aimed at improving the well-being of minors in foster care. The study examines various types of foster care arrangements—kinship, non-relative, and professional fostering—highlighting their impact on the psychological, social, and cognitive development of children. It underscores the crucial role of foster families and social workers in providing a conducive family environment, while also cataloging the potential drawbacks of the system, including professional intervention challenges, emotional and social strain on the children, and gaps in the fostering infrastructure. By comparing the Greek fostering institution with systems in France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, and Ireland, the paper identifies unique challenges and best practices, contributing to an understanding of international foster care dynamics. The research also delves into the intricacies of adoption versus fostering, detailing the emotional and legal commitments involved. Furthermore, the paper integrates insights from related studies on trauma, mental health, and educational neuroscience, providing a multidisciplinary perspective on the needs of foster children. It illustrates the promising strides made by initiatives like the Child Guarantee program to fight poverty and exclusion, emphasizing the need for targeted policies and legislative action. Toward its conclusion, the research accentuates the call for ongoing interdisciplinary studies, policy refinements, and improved professional training within Greek child welfare systems. It presents a compelling case for robust, trauma-informed care frameworks and legislation designed to secure the best outcomes for vulnerable children in foster care.

Education is founded upon the instruction process and its outcomes, commonly called learning outcomes. The underlying foundation of this entire process is the brain. Neuroscience encompasses the study of brain function, including the intricate processes involved in human learning. It also investigates the factors that contribute to variations in learning abilities among individuals. Therefore, it is unsurprising that individuals engaged in educational science are highly interested in integrating the discoveries of neurosciences with educational theories of learning. Neuroscientific research has been conducted for approximately three decades. However, there has been a growing interest in integrating neuroscience and education in recent years. This is evident from the numerous articles published in books and scientific journals that explore the relationship between these two fields. Additionally, the integration of neuroscience into educational leadership presents both opportunities and challenges. Educational neuroscience posits that insights from neuroscience can enhance teaching in the classroom. However, there are practical and principled issues associated with educational neuroscience, which need to be addressed. Neuroscience is revealing to educational leadership that it is a social process, with the human brain being a social organ interacting with others in social contexts. Incorporating neuroscience into educational leadership has the potential to increase its effectiveness, but contradictory studies address the critical nature of this integration. The application of advances in psychology, behavioral economics, and cognitive neuroscience to study school leaders’ decision-making processes is a tantalizing area. Finally, it is essential that neuroscientific data and interpretations are rooted in education to be embraced by the education profession.

Challenges and Perspectives","authors":"Stella Stiliadi","doi":"10.47577/teh.v7i.10328","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47577/teh.v7i.10328","url":null,"abstract":"Education is founded upon the instruction process and its outcomes, commonly called learning outcomes. The underlying foundation of this entire process is the brain. Neuroscience encompasses the study of brain function, including the intricate processes involved in human learning. It also investigates the factors that contribute to variations in learning abilities among individuals. Therefore, it is unsurprising that individuals engaged in educational science are highly interested in integrating the discoveries of neurosciences with educational theories of learning. Neuroscientific research has been conducted for approximately three decades. However, there has been a growing interest in integrating neuroscience and education in recent years. This is evident from the numerous articles published in books and scientific journals that explore the relationship between these two fields. Additionally, the integration of neuroscience into educational leadership presents both opportunities and challenges. Educational neuroscience posits that insights from neuroscience can enhance teaching in the classroom. However, there are practical and principled issues associated with educational neuroscience, which need to be addressed. Neuroscience is revealing to educational leadership that it is a social process, with the human brain being a social organ interacting with others in social contexts. Incorporating neuroscience into educational leadership has the potential to increase its effectiveness, but contradictory studies address the critical nature of this integration. The application of advances in psychology, behavioral economics, and cognitive neuroscience to study school leaders’ decision-making processes is a tantalizing area. Finally, it is essential that neuroscientific data and interpretations are rooted in education to be embraced by the education profession.","PeriodicalId":471797,"journal":{"name":"Technium Education and Humanities","volume":"6 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139806201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
