This article examines the recent rollbacks of LGBTQ+ rights in the United States and their influence on LGBTQ+ communities in Asia, including legal protections, advocacy, and mental health. It highlights the important role of social workers in addressing these emerging challenges by promoting LGBTQ+-affirmative practices, providing culturally sensitive mental health support, and fostering inclusive communities. Social workers are positioned as critical actors in resisting discrimination and strengthening local mental health and social support systems amid global policy shifts.

The level of HIV awareness among social workers in Kyrgyzstan is still low, which negatively impacts on the quality of the services they provide. The study examines the knowledge of social workers and social work students about HIV, attitudes towards people living with HIV, and willingness to provide social services. The study used an HIV knowledge survey (n = 314). The percentage of correct answers to knowledge questions was 70.3% among social workers and 64.5% among students. Only 50.1% of students and 40% of social workers are willing to provide services. The study found that the participants lacked adequate knowledge about HIV.

This study presents a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) systematic review of risk factors among women experiencing homelessness from an ecological and intersectional perspective. Twenty-one empirical studies were analyzed. The findings reveal four main dimensions of risk: (1) risk factors in interpersonal relationships; (2) risk factors associated with physical, mental, and emotional health; (3) risk factors related to access to housing, employment, and resources; and (4) risk factors linked to discrimination and intersectionality. The review highlights the interplay of individual, relational, and structural factors, underscoring the need for social work interventions and policies ensuring gender equality, housing access, and social protection.

The nature of social work requires the profession to be adaptive and responsive to changes in the political, economic and social environment where the practice occurs. The social work profession in Singapore has developed in tandem with the nation’s relatively young history of nation building. This article uses the recently announced new social compact of Singapore as a context to present an update of the political and social-demographic situation in Singapore. The article discusses the significance of the refreshed social compact and offers views on the possible implications for social work practice in Singapore.

Social workers are standing on the front line in preventing, disclosing and intervening in intimate partner violence cases and in promoting survivors’ safety and well-being. However, for survivors with strong religious affiliations, social workers are not the only actors involved. This study aimed to retrospectively explore the help-seeking experience of Ultraorthodox survivors of intimate partner violence who received help from social workers and rabbis. Findings suggest that social workers should acknowledge the care barriers connected to child outcomes and that rabbis may not be the preferred source of care unless they possess a good background in family matters.

This scoping review examines the experiences of migrant mothers from Latin America, highlighting psychosocial and vulnerability factors affecting their well-being in migration contexts. Focusing on south-to-south migration and the gendered experiences of caregiving women, it addresses a significant gap in the literature. Findings reveal unique challenges such as acculturation stress, economic hardships, limited social support, and mental health issues exacerbated by marginalization due to caregiving roles. Practice implications for social work and policy include culturally competent interventions and the design of supportive policies tailored to migrant mothers’ needs.

Livelihoods for old-aged people are a concern for social work practice given the deteriorating socio-economic situation of Zimbabwe. Through a qualitative lens, the study found out that over 60s are primarily surviving through peasant farming and support from family. Traditional healing is a source of income and economic capability and support from development partners. The article implicates social workers to be advocates for sustainable livelihoods support and strengthen endogenous social protection. Improved social protection coverage spearheaded by social workers and protection of the elderly against harmful practices, and genuine commitment and collaboration toward the livelihoods of the rural old aged are key.
