. Abstract: Inspired by Chinua Achebe’s criticism of Joseph Conrad’s racist ambivalence in Heart of Darkness, this paper focuses on the discourse of denigration as a continuum. It is concerned with how twentieth and twenty-first century black narratives—or more specifically, narratives of/around blackness— have either portrayed an intentionally derogatory image of Africa or become apologetic in defending such an image. While the denigration-versus-resistance polarity has characterized the conception and criticism of literary works across time, the particular experience of being black in a world of conceits has been orchestrated through several forms of conceptualizing black renaissance. Bilingual teaching has been formally incorporated into the undergraduate teaching system of Chinese colleges and universities since 2001, and it has been more than 20 years since then. However, the effect of bilingual teaching in many colleges and universities is still unsatisfactory, and there are many problems. Abstract: Bilingual teaching in the course of "Securities Investment" is in line with the talent cultivation objectives of undergraduate finance majors in the context of Chinese-foreign cooperative education, but due to the problems of students, teachers and teaching materials, it is necessary to carry out reforms and innovations in the bilingual teaching of the course. Covid-19. To obtain the code, users must complete a health declaration questionnaire through the Alipay app, sharing details about their travel history, current health condition, and potential exposure to the Abstract: This paper illustrates the ways in which governments can infringe upon civil liberties and expand surveillance measures in response to a crisis, through employing technological determinism as a vehicle to examine the Alipay Health Code system. The system was developed by Alipay and introduced in China in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 crisis to help monitor and control the spread of the virus, but was heavily criticized on social media by many Chinese people and was eventually scrapped in December 2022. It argues that surveillance technologies are inherently deterministic as they shape societal structures and power dynamics, often reinforcing existing hierarchies and inequalities. While social constructivism could be employed to analyze surveillance technologies, many stakeholders are not able to actively participate in shaping the discourse, utilization, and governance of these technologies due to limited access to information and power differentials, and the technological “black box” makes it challenging for citizens to fully understand and influence the decision-making processes and algorithms that govern their lives. It further argues that it is inevitable that the government will use another crisis to implement a surveillance system that expands its monitoring capabilities and further encroaches on individual privacy in the future. As a society, we must decide how to balance the need for public safety with the protection of civil liberties, ensuring transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in shaping the deployment and governance of such systems so that the deterministic nature of these technologies is tempered by ethical considerations and safeguards to prevent abuses of power.

Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) programs serve as an essential stepping stone for individuals aspiring to pursue a successful career in this field. As part of the first-year curriculum for HNDA, students are introduced to a plethora of technical terms and specialized language unique to the domain of accountancy. These terms play a pivotal role in establishing a strong foundation for the students and prepare them for advanced courses in subsequent years. While educational institutions have continuously strived to deliver high-quality teaching materials and lectures, there is limited research on the specific technical words that are most prevalent in the first-year HNDA program. This lack of comprehensive information creates challenges for educators in designing targeted teaching strategies to ensure students' optimal understanding and retention of subject matter. To address this research gap, the current study aims to conduct a thorough corpus analysis of technical words occurring in the first-year HNDA program. A corpus is a structured collection of written or spoken texts, which, in this context, will be comprised of textbooks, lecture notes, and other relevant study materials used in the HNDA program. By utilizing corpus linguistics techniques, the study seeks to identify and analyze the most frequent and contextually significant technical words encountered by first-year HNDA students. The research will involve collecting a substantial corpus and employing advanced software tools to extract relevant data, including frequency counts, concordances, and collocations.
