The present paper surveys the more recent techniques related to the swingby maneuver, where a spacecraft changes its energy and angular momentum by passing close to celestial bodies. It is focused on the literature related to extensions of this maneuver, with emphasis in the powered version, where an impulse is applied to the spacecraft near the closest approach. Several mathematical models are considered, including the patched-conics approximation for analytical studies, and the restricted three-body problem for the numerical simulations. The main goal is to show the models and the main conclusions available in the literature for those maneuvers. Some key results are shown to discuss important aspects of this maneuver, including the analysis of the energy variation of the spacecraft, the behavior of the trajectories and other applications.

STAR FORMATION HISTORIES OF BRIGHTEST CLUSTER GALAXIES WITH INTERMEDIATE CENTRAL AGES
Q3 ASTRONOMY & ASTROPHYSICS Pub Date : 2021-10-01 DOI: 10.22201/ia.01851101p.2021.57.02.11

This work is devoted to the study of the star formation histories (SFHs) of the brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) with intermediate central ages (from 5 to 10Gyr), to confirm if BCGs with these ages represent different accretion histories or simply a stochastic effect. The sample is composed of 6 BCGs with intermediate central ages and 3 BCGs with old central ages (> 12Gyr) as comparison galaxies. The galaxies were observed with the integrated field spectrograph VIMOS installed in the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The SFHs were obtained with the full spectrum fitting technique using the star population code STARLIGHT. The BCGs of intermediate central age analyzed formed almost 100% of their stars at z > 2 and their SFHs are similar to the SFHs of BCGs of old central ages and elliptical galaxies of similar mass (MDyn > 1011 Mʘ); therefore, these BCGs do not represent different SFHs.

We present accurate physical parameters of the eccentric binary system V990 Her which has an orbital period of P=8.193315±0.000003 days using its photometric and spectroscopic data. The physical parameters of the components were derived as Teff1=8000±200 K, Teff2=7570±200 K, M1=2.01±0.07 Mʘ, M2=1.83±0.03 Mʘ, R1=2.22±0.02 Rʘ, R2=2.12±0.01 Rʘ, log(L1/Lʘ)=1.25±0.04, log(L2/Lʘ)=1.12±0.05. Our findings revealed that both components are slightly evolved from the zero-age main sequence with an age of 6.3×108 years. We estimated an apsidal motion with a period of U=14683±2936 years in the system and the internal structure constants of the components were derived for the first time.

ON THE EFFECTS OF SOLAR RADIATION PRESSURE ON THE DEVIATION OF ASTEROIDS
Q3 ASTRONOMY & ASTROPHYSICS Pub Date : 2021-10-01 DOI: 10.22201/ia.01851101p.2021.57.02.03

In this work, we study the effects of solar radiation pressure (SRP) on the problem of changing the orbit of an asteroid to support planetary defense, scientific research, or exploitation of materials. This alternative considers a tethered reflective balloon (or a set of reflective balloons) attached to the asteroid, with a high area-to-mass ratio, to use the SRP to deflect a potentially hazardous asteroid (PHA) or to approximate the target asteroid to Earth. The tether is assumed to be inextensible and massless, and the motion is described only in the orbital plane of the asteroid around the Sun. The model is then used to study the effects that the tether length, the reflectivity coefficient, and the area-to-mass ratio have on the deviation of the trajectory of the asteroid.

The continually increased space debris have posed great impact risks to existing space systems and human space flight. Accurate knowledge of propagation errors of space debris orbit is essential for many types of uses, such as space surveillance network tasking, conjunction analysis etc. Unfortunately, propagation error is not available for a two-line element (TLE). In this paper, a new TLE uncertainty estimation method based on neural network model is proposed. Object properties, space environment and predicted time-span are considered as the input of the network, the propagation errors in the direction of downrange, normal and conormal are as the output of the network. In order to assure the chosen orbit for training is not stable, only debris and rocket bodies are used. The network's effciency is demonstrated with some objects with continuous TLE data. Overall, the method proves accurate, computationally fast, and robust, and is applicable to any object in the satellite catalogue, especially for those newly launched objects.

Motivated by the promising era of time-domain and multi-messenger astronomy, CHanging Event Survey (CHES) is designed to join the ongoing campaign with a powerful wide-field optical telescope array. CHES project aims to monitor the transient universe, including gamma-ray bursts, fast radio bursts, the electromagnetic counterpart of gravitational waves events (kilonova), supernova, variable stars, near-earth objects, and space debris. The array consists of 12 individual wide field refractors with aperture 280 mm, covering 600 square degrees in total. In the same project, two 800 mm prime focus telescopes can be triggered for follow-up observation. Furthermore, CHES can effectively monitor 300 square deg in a dual band simultaneously, which enable the array to do candidate identification and follow-up for the triggers from LIGO/Virgo collaboration, Fermi, Swift, GECam and SVOM satellites.

The Cubesats Applied for MEasuring and LOcalising Transients (CAMELOT) initiative proposes to deploy a fleet of 3U nanosatellites in order to localise GRBs with all-sky coverage. The operation is based on measuring the time delay of the event trigger between satellites that are otherwise uniformly distributed around the Earth in low-Earth orbit (between 500 - 600 km of altitude). In this design, caesium-iodide crystals interact with soft gamma radiation by emitting optical photons. Utilization of this effect, each member of the fleet is equipped with four of such scintillators and the emitted photons are detected by multi-pixel photon counters (MPPCs). Precise timing is crucial for this concept, the timestamping of the events and the synchronisation is provided by GPS. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of the CAMELOT concept, a single-unit CubeSat, named "GRBAlpha" is currently being developed. GRBAlpha is equipped with a single block of scintillator but the other subsystems are all the same as it will be on the CAMELOT units. We describe this single-unit platform system, focusing on the model versions suitable for high-altitude stratospheric balloon flights. This model has a standardized layout (including pin-out configuration, signalling and bus communication) and compatible with significant proportion of CubeSat system vendors. This system of ours is also capable of hosting multiple payloads at the same time, optimizing the utilization of balloon experiments.
