: Background and Aim: According to earlier studies, schizophrenia is often characterized by social withdrawal and a lack of emotional connection. Alexithymia, and social anhedonia significantly impacts the quality of life for individuals with schizophrenia. If empathy is indeed a mediator between alexithymia, and social anhedonia, then it becomes a potential target for therapeutic interventions. Training programs or treatments designed to enhance empathy could have a significant impact on the social functioning of individuals with schizophrenia. However, limited researches have explored this mediation role of empathy in relationship between alexithymia and social anhedonia among individuals with schizophrenia. So, this study aimed to investigate the mediating role of empathy in relationship between alexithymia and social anhedonia among individuals with schizophrenia . Subjects& Methods : A descriptive correlational analytical design was used. on 170 randomly chosen participants who met the selection criteria. Four tools were used for data collection (Socio-demographic and clinical data, Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and Social Anhedonia Scale (RSAS). Results, Conclusion &Recommendations: The present study revealed a significant positive correlation between alexithymia and social anhedonia. However, empathy was negatively associated with both alexithymia and social anhedonia. The results also provided evidence for a partial mediation effect of empathy in the relationship between social anhedonia and alexithymia. This could be a stepping stone for developing more comprehensive treatment plans not only improve social engagement but also foster empathy through enhanced emotional awareness and expression, ultimately leading to better social functioning. This study suggests that mental health nurses (MHNs) should prioritize assessing empathy, social anhedonia, and alexithymia in patients with schizophrenia. Also, psychiatric and mental health nurses should focus on training patients with schizophrenia to identify emotions, regulate them, and improve communication/social interaction to enhance empathy and reduce the impact of alexithymia on social anhedonia. Moreover, building a strong relationship is crucial to provide effective psychoeducation for patients and families on the importance of empathy in social interactions.

Despite the benefits of smartphones, a growing number of studies highlight the adverse effects and potential risks on the cognitive development of school-age children. The objective of this research was to assess the level of understanding and observed behavior of mpthers about smartphone addiction in their school-age children. Desgin This study used a descriptive research approach. A sample of 78 mothers, fulfill the following requirements: 1) Having school-age children using smartphones, 2) Their children are between 6 and 12 years old, mothers of children who don't have Smartphones were excluded from the study. The settings included elementary schools, including both private, public, and foreign institutions. The study investigators devised a questionnaire for structured interviews. Results indicated that most of the mothers own a higher education degree, and every single one of them utilizes smartphones. In the case of smartphones, most of the children included in the study own a smartphone and/or tablet. All mothers had precise awareness of the detrimental consequences of excessive smartphone use, although they were unaware of the optimal duration for children to utilize smartphones or tablets. Conclusion that the predictive factors of smartphone addiction were daily smartphone and social networking service use duration and the awareness of game overuse. Recommendations: Mothers should limit their children's smartphone use to a maximum of one hour each day. It is essential to monitor the frequency of children's smartphone usage since frequent, brief periods of smartphone use may indicate the presence of smartphone addiction.

Background: Postoperative delirium is a fatal complication that occurs in older adults after surgery. It is prevalent in healthcare settings and is often under-recognized and misdiagnosed due to a lack of knowledge among healthcare providers. Aim: To evaluate the effect of the training program on nursing staff knowledge and practices regarding post-operative delirium among older adult patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental research design with one group pretest-posttest was employed. A purposive sample of 80 eligible nurses was recruited to participate in the study from the surgical and intensive care units affiliated to Mansoura University Hospital. The data pertinent to the study was collected using the Nurses’ Demographic Characteristics and Work-Related Data questionnaire, the Delirium Knowledge Questionnaire, and the Delirium Observational Checklist. Results: The majority of the studied nurses had poor knowledge and practices related to postoperative delirium (81.3% and 100%, respectively). After implementing the training program, the studied nurses' total mean scores of knowledge improved from 14.48±2.94 to 27.28±4.94. Similarly, the nurses' total mean scores of practices increased from 28.18±3.90 to 63.32±6.23, with a statistically significant difference observed in overall mean scores of knowledge and practices (p<0.00) pre-and post-program. Conclusion: The proposed training program is an effective teaching approach that enhances nurses' knowledge and practices regarding postoperative delirium. Recommendations: An in-service educational program should be developed for nurses who care for elderly patients to improve their knowledge and skills regarding postoperative delirium. Nursing institutions should also emphasize the education of postoperative delirium and integrate it into the undergraduate nursing curriculum to raise nursing students’ awareness regarding this serious complication.
