Coordinated control of an intelligentwheelchair based on a brain-computer interface and speech recognition 基于脑机接口和语音识别的智能轮椅协调控制

An intelligent wheelchair is devised, which is controlled by a coordinated mechanism based on a brain-computer interface (BCI) and speech recognition. By performing appropriate activities, users can navigate the wheelchair with four steering behaviors (start, stop, turn left, and turn right). Five healthy subjects participated in an indoor experiment. The results demonstrate the efficiency of the coordinated control mechanism with satisfactory path and time optimality ratios, and show that speech recognition is a fast and accurate supplement for BCI-based control systems. The proposed intelligent wheelchair is especially suitable for patients suffering from paralysis (especially those with aphasia) who can learn to pronounce only a single sound (e.g., ‘ah’).

Mismatched feature detection with finer granularity for emotional speaker recognition 更细粒度的不匹配特征检测用于情感说话人识别

The shapes of speakers’ vocal organs change under their different emotional states, which leads to the deviation of the emotional acoustic space of short-time features from the neutral acoustic space and thereby the degradation of the speaker recognition performance. Features deviating greatly from the neutral acoustic space are considered as mismatched features, and they negatively affect speaker recognition systems. Emotion variation produces different feature deformations for different phonemes, so it is reasonable to build a finer model to detect mismatched features under each phoneme. However, given the difficulty of phoneme recognition, three sorts of acoustic class recognition—phoneme classes, Gaussian mixture model (GMM) tokenizer, and probabilistic GMM tokenizer—are proposed to replace phoneme recognition. We propose feature pruning and feature regulation methods to process the mismatched features to improve speaker recognition performance. As for the feature regulation method, a strategy of maximizing the between-class distance and minimizing the within-class distance is adopted to train the transformation matrix to regulate the mismatched features. Experiments conducted on the Mandarin affective speech corpus (MASC) show that our feature pruning and feature regulation methods increase the identification rate (IR) by 3.64% and 6.77%, compared with the baseline GMM-UBM (universal background model) algorithm. Also, corresponding IR increases of 2.09% and 3.32% can be obtained with our methods when applied to the state-of-the-art algorithm i-vector.

Exploring the mechanism of neural-function reconstruction by reinnervated nerves in targeted muscles 目的:探讨再支配神经重建目标肌肉神经功能的机制

A lack of myoelectric sources after limb amputation is a critical challenge in the control of multifunctional motorized prostheses. To reconstruct myoelectric sources physiologically related to lost limbs, a newly proposed neural-function construction method, targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR), appears promising. Recent advances in the TMR technique suggest that TMR could provide additional motor command information for the control of multifunctional myoelectric prostheses. However, little is known about the nature of the physiological functional recovery of the reinnervated muscles. More understanding of the underlying mechanism of TMR could help us fine tune the technique to maximize its capability to achieve a much higher performance in the control of multifunctional prostheses. In this study, rats were used as an animal model for TMR surgery involving transferring a median nerve into the pectoralis major, which served as the target muscle. Intramuscular myoelectric signals reconstructed following TMR were recorded by implanted wire electrodes and analyzed to explore the nature of the neural-function reconstruction achieved by reinnervation of targeted muscles. Our results showed that the active myoelectric signal reconstructed in the targeted muscle was acquired one week after TMR surgery, and its amplitude gradually became stronger over time. These preliminary results from rats may serve as a basis for exploring the mechanism of neural-function reconstruction by the TMR technique in human subjects.

Time-dependent changes in eye-specific segregation in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus and superior colliculus of postnatal mice 出生后小鼠膝状核背外侧和上丘眼特异性分离的时间依赖性变化

Eye-specific segregation in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN) and superior colliculus (SC) starts from the embryonic stage and continues to develop postnatally until eye-opening in mice. However, there have been few systematic studies on the details of this developmental process. Here, we carried out time-dependent studies of eye-specific segregation in the dLGN and SC. Our results demonstrated that the development of eye-specific segregation in the SC is completed before postnatal day 12 (P12), which is earlier than in the dLGN (P20). During the whole period, ipsilateral and overlapping axonal projections decreased continuously in both the dLGN and SC. On the other hand, contralateral axonal projections showed little change, except for a slight decrease between P8 and P20 in the dLGN.

Scale-aware shape manipulation 比例感知形状操作

A novel representation of a triangular mesh surface using a set of scale-invariant measures is proposed. The measures consist of angles of the triangles (triangle angles) and dihedral angles along the edges (edge angles) which are scale and rigidity independent. The vertex coordinates for a mesh give its scale-invariant measures, unique up to scale, rotation, and translation. Based on the representation of mesh using scale-invariant measures, a two-step iterative deformation algorithm is proposed, which can arbitrarily edit the mesh through simple handles interaction. The algorithm can explicitly preserve the local geometric details as much as possible in different scales even under severe editing operations including rotation, scaling, and shearing. The efficiency and robustness of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated by examples.

Visual salience guided feature-aware shape simplification 视觉显著性引导特征感知形状简化

In the area of 3D digital engineering and 3D digital geometry processing, shape simplification is an important task to reduce their requirement of large memory and high time complexity. By incorporating the content-aware visual salience measure of a polygonal mesh into simplification operation, a novel feature-aware shape simplification approach is presented in this paper. Owing to the robust extraction of relief heights on 3D highly detailed meshes, our visual salience measure is defined by a center-surround operator on Gaussian-weighted relief heights in a scale-dependent manner. Guided by our visual salience map, the feature-aware shape simplification algorithm can be performed by weighting the high-dimensional feature space quadric error metric of vertex pair contractions with the weight map derived from our visual salience map. The weighted quadric error metric is calculated in a six-dimensional feature space by combining the position and normal information of mesh vertices. Experimental results demonstrate that our visual salience guided shape simplification scheme can adaptively and effectively re-sample the underlying models in a feature-aware manner, which can account for the visually salient features of the complex shapes and thus yield better visual fidelity.

Data center network architecture in cloud computing: review, taxonomy, and open research issues 云计算中的数据中心网络架构:回顾、分类和开放研究问题

The data center network (DCN), which is an important component of data centers, consists of a large number of hosted servers and switches connected with high speed communication links. A DCN enables the deployment of resources centralization and on-demand access of the information and services of data centers to users. In recent years, the scale of the DCN has constantly increased with the widespread use of cloud-based services and the unprecedented amount of data delivery in/between data centers, whereas the traditional DCN architecture lacks aggregate bandwidth, scalability, and cost effectiveness for coping with the increasing demands of tenants in accessing the services of cloud data centers. Therefore, the design of a novel DCN architecture with the features of scalability, low cost, robustness, and energy conservation is required. This paper reviews the recent research findings and technologies of DCN architectures to identify the issues in the existing DCN architectures for cloud computing. We develop a taxonomy for the classification of the current DCN architectures, and also qualitatively analyze the traditional and contemporary DCN architectures. Moreover, the DCN architectures are compared on the basis of the significant characteristics, such as bandwidth, fault tolerance, scalability, overhead, and deployment cost. Finally, we put forward open research issues in the deployment of scalable, low-cost, robust, and energy-efficient DCN architecture, for data centers in computational clouds.

Image resizing is a key technique for displaying images on different devices, and has attracted much attention in the past few years. This paper reviews the image resizing methods proposed in recent years, gives a detailed comparison on their performance, and reveals the main challenges raised in several important issues such as preserving an important region, minimizing distortions, and improving efficiency. Furthermore, this paper discusses the research trends and points out the possible hotspots in this field. We believe this survey can give some guidance for researchers from relevant research areas, offering them an overall and novel view.

NaEPASC: a novel and efficient public auditing scheme for cloud data NaEPASC:一种新颖高效的云数据公共审计方案

Cloud computing is deemed the next-generation information technology (IT) platform, in which a data center is crucial for providing a large amount of computing and storage resources for various service applications with high quality guaranteed. However, cloud users no longer possess their data in a local data storage infrastructure, which would result in auditing for the integrity of outsourced data being a challenging problem, especially for users with constrained computing resources. Therefore, how to help the users complete the verification of the integrity of the outsourced data has become a key issue. Public verification is a critical technique to solve this problem, from which the users can resort to a third-party auditor (TPA) to check the integrity of outsourced data. Moreover, an identity-based (ID-based) public key cryptosystem would be an efficient key management scheme for certificate-based public key setting. In this paper, we combine ID-based aggregate signature and public verification to construct the protocol of provable data integrity. With the proposed mechanism, the TPA not only verifies the integrity of outsourced data on behalf of cloud users, but also alleviates the burden of checking tasks with the help of users’ identity. Compared to previous research, the proposed scheme greatly reduces the time of auditing a single task on the TPA side. Security analysis and performance evaluation results show the high efficiency and security of the proposed scheme.

A controllable stitch layout strategy for random needle embroidery 随机针绣的可控针迹布置策略

Random needle embroidery (RNE) is a graceful art enrolled in the world intangible cultural heritage. In this paper, we study the stitch layout problem and propose a controllable stitch layout strategy for RNE. Using our method, a user can easily change the layout styles by adjusting several high-level layout parameters. This approach has three main features: firstly, a stitch layout rule containing low-level stitch attributes and high-level layout parameters is designed; secondly, a stitch neighborhood graph is built for each region to model the spatial relationship among stitches; thirdly, different stitch attributes (orientations, lengths, and colors) are controlled using different reaction-diffusion processes based on a stitch neighborhood graph. Moreover, our method supports the user in changing the stitch orientation layout by drawing guide curves interactively. The experimental results show its capability for reflecting various stitch layout styles and flexibility for user interaction.
