Design of a Low Distortion Head-Mounted Display with Freeform Reflective Mirror Based on Two Ellipsoids Structure 基于两椭球体结构的自由曲面反射镜低畸变头戴式显示器设计

A new method to design a low distortion, even relative illumination, optical see-through head-mounted display (HMD) with a freeform reflective mirror (FFRM) based on the two similar ellipsoids structure is proposed. The HMD we have realized has a simple structure which consists of two similar ellipsoid surfaces, an FFRM, a 7-piece co-axis relay lens, and an OLED. This structure can be applied to offset distortion, reach even relative illumination, and correct the off-axis aberrations. The HMD we finally have realized has a near 3% low distortion, a higher than 80% relative illumination, and a 40°×30° field of view (FOV).
提出了一种基于两类椭球体结构的低畸变、均匀相对照度的自由曲面反射镜光学透明头戴式显示器(HMD)的设计方法。我们实现的HMD结构简单,由两个相似的椭球表面、一个FFRM、一个7片共轴继电器镜头和一个OLED组成。这种结构可以用来抵消畸变,达到均匀的相对照明,并纠正离轴像差。我们最终实现的HMD具有接近3%的低失真,高于80%的相对照度和40°×30°的视场(FOV)。

Transformation Optics Methodology for Changing the Appearance of an Object 改变物体外观的变换光学方法

It is based on changing a material’s permittivity and permeability. A design for changing the appearance of an object by transformation optics methodology is proposed here. Through a certain transformation, the relations of the metric spaces and the calculation of the material parameters are derived, and the aim of changing the apparent size of an object can be realized. Full wave simulations are performed to validate the proposed device’s performance. The auto-correlation peak level over the maximum cross-correlation level is larger than 3 at the center of the correctly decoded pulse for most of wavelength hopping and spectral phase code combinations, which assures the BER lower than 10

Dual Loop Optoelectronic Oscillator with Acousto-Optic Delay Line 带声光延迟线的双回路光电振荡器

A dual loop optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) based on an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) for single mode operation with an acousto-optic delay line is demonstrated in this paper. When the OEO operates, the free spectral range is a function of the total loop length of the OEO, which is mainly dependent on the propagation time of the acoustic wave in the AOM. Due to the huge difference in the magnitude between the speed of light and the acoustic velocity in the AOM, the effective loop length converted to light-propagation length of the OEO increases to 3.8 km. With 150 MHz oscillation frequency, phase noise of -118 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz frequency offset, and -140 dBc/Hz at 200 kHz frequency offset, is achieved.

Comparative Study of Uniform and Nonuniform Grating Couplers for Optimized Fiber Coupling to Silicon Waveguides 均匀与非均匀光栅耦合器优化光纤与硅波导耦合的比较研究

We have investigated the ultimate limits of nonuniform grating couplers (NGCs) for optimized fiber coupling to silicon waveguides, compared to uniform grating couplers (UGCs). Simple grating coupler schemes, which can be fabricated in etching steps of the conventional complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers without forming any additional overlay structure, have been simulated numerically and demonstrated experimentally. Optimum values of the grating period, fill factor, and groove number for ultimate coupling efficiency of the NGCs are determined from finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation, and confirmed with experimentally demonstrated devices by comparison to those for the UGCs. Our simulated results indicate that maximum coupling efficiency of NGCs is possible when the minimum pattern size is below 50 nm, but the experimental value for the maximum coupling efficiency is limited by the attainable fabrication tolerance in a practical device process.

Single Exposure Imaging of Talbot Carpets and Resolution Characterization of Detectors for Micro- and Nano- Patterns 塔尔博特地毯的单次曝光成像及微纳米图案探测器的分辨率表征

In this paper, we demonstrate a self-imaging technique that can visualize longitudinal interference patterns behind periodically-structured objects, which is often referred to as Talbot carpet. Talbot carpet is of great interest due to ever-decreasing scale of interference features. We demonstrate experimentally that Talbot carpets can be imaged in a single exposure configuration revealing a broad spectrum of multi-scale features. We have performed rigorous diffraction simulations for showing that Talbot carpet print can produce ever-decreasing structures down to limits set by mask feature sizes. This demonstrates that large-scale pattern masks may be used for direct printing of features with substantially smaller scales. This approach is also useful for characterization of image sensors and recording media

【We demonstrated the pretilt angle effect on the viewing angle properties of a single-domain fringe-field switching (FFS) liquid crystal (LC) mode. By performing the POincare sphere analysis, we investigated, in detail, the origin of the viewing angle asymmetry that exists in the single-domain FFS LC mode both in the field-on and field-off states. Using this analysis, we confirmed that the pretilt angle reduces the viewing angle symmetry in the single-domain FFS LC mode. Finally, we examined the effect of a zero pretilt angle on the viewing angle symmetry by evaluating real single-domain FFS LC cells.】

Propagation Properties of a Partially Coherent Flat-Topped Vortex Hollow Beam in Turbulent Atmosphere 湍流大气中部分相干平顶涡旋空心光束的传播特性

Using coherence theory, the partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam is introduced. The analytical equation for propagation of a partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam in turbulent atmosphere is derived, using the extended Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral formula. The influence of coherence length, beam order N, topological charge M, and structure constant of the turbulent atmosphere on the average intensity of this beam propagating in turbulent atmosphere are analyzed using numerical examples.

The Influence of Rapid Thermal Annealing Processed Metal-Semiconductor Contact on Plasmonic Waveguide Under Electrical Pumping 电泵浦下快速热退火金属-半导体接触对等离子体波导的影响

The influence of Au/Ni-based contact formed on a lightly-doped (7.3×1017cm−3, Zn-doped) InGaAsP layer for electrical compensation of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) propagation under various rapid thermal annealing (RTA) conditions has been studied. The active control of SPP propagation is realized by electrically pumping the InGaAsP multiple quantum wells (MQWs) beneath the metal planar waveguide. The metal planar film acts as the electric contact layer and SPP waveguide, simultaneously. The RTA process can lower the metal-semiconductor electric contact resistance. Nevertheless, it inevitably increases the contact interface morphological roughness, which is detrimental to SPP propagation. Based on this dilemma, in this work we focus on studying the influence of RTA conditions on electrical control of SPPs. The experimental results indicate that there is obvious degradation of electrical pumping compensation for SPP propagation loss in the devices annealed at 400℃ compared to those with no annealing treatment. With increasing annealing duration time, more significant degradation of the active performance is observed even under sufficient current injection. When the annealing temperature is set at 400℃ and the duration time approaches 60s, the SPP propagation is nearly no longer supported as the waveguide surface morphology is severely changed. It seems that eutectic mixture stemming from the RTA process significantly increases the metal film roughness and interferes with the SPP signal propagation.

Phase Only Pupil Filter Design Using Zernike Polynomials 基于Zernike多项式的纯相位瞳孔滤波器设计

A pupil filter is a useful technique for modifying the light intensity distribution near the focus of an optical system to realize depth of field (DOF) extension and superresolution. In this paper, we proposed a new design of the phase only pupil filter by using Zernike polynomials. The effect of design parameters of the new filters on DOF extension and superresolution are discussed, such as defocus Strehl ratio (S.R.), superresolution factor (G) and relative first side lobe intensity (M). In comparison with the other two types of pupil filters, the proposed filter presents its advantages on controlling both the axial and radial light intensity distribution. Finally, defocused imaging simulations are carried out to further demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed pupil filter on DOF extension and superresolution in an optical imaging system.
