We present a new record of Scaphiodontophis annulatus (Duméril, Bibron & Duméril, 1854) from Serranía Montes de María, department of Sucre, Colombia. This represents the second record of this species from the Colombian Caribbean region and the first from a tropical dry forest habitat. We discuss color variation across this species range, as the taxonomy of this species remains unresolved.

The mussel Perna viridis, commonly known as Green Mussel, is native from the Indo-Pacific region and has been introduced in various countries around the globe. In Brazil, the species has already been recorded in Rio de Janeiro and Ceará states. With the aim of assessing the presence of mussels in the southern region of the country, 14 individuals were collected in the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex, Paraná. The mussels were found attached at a depth of 2 m on the artificial structure of Ponta do Poço Marina. The DNA was extracted using a commercial kit, the COI gene was amplified through PCR using the primers dgL-CO-1490 and dgHCO-2198, sequenced by the Sanger method, and the species was identified through the BOLD Systems. The phylogenetic tree was built on the software MEGA 11 using 28 sequences from three Perna species. Therefore, the present study confirms the occurrence of P. viridis in Brazil through molecular identification for the first time and adds a second Brazilian state where it has been recorded. The Brazilian coastline provides optimal environmental conditions for the establishment and development of P. viridis.

The Ecuadorian Chocó is a global conservation hotspot with high levels of biodiversity and endemism but is threatened by extensive deforestation. Here, we report the discovery of an additional locality for the Critically Endangered poison-dart frog Leucostethus bilsa (Amphibia, Dendrobatidae) in a privately protected forest reserve in Esmeraldas, Ecuador. This may represent a distinct IUCN location for the species, thereby downgrading its IUCN threat level to Endangered. This finding increases the extent of occurrence for L. bilsa from 0.9 to 4.78 km2, and the area of occupancy from 8.0 to 16.0 km2, demonstrating the importance of small forest reserves for the conservation of forest-dependent amphibians. Further surveys are warranted to determine whether the species is present in additional forest fragments in the region, the degree of connectivity, if any, between individuals inhabiting different fragments, and whether the species’ population is increasing, stable, or in decline.

We present the first records of the diving beetle Ilybius pseudoneglectus (Franciscolo, 1972) from Slovakia. This species is described from Italy and Croatia and is distributed mainly along the Adriatic coast south through Montenegro to Greece. The Slovak specimens come from a flooded inland salt marsh and salt meadow biotope in a lowland near the village of Tvrdošovce (southwestern Slovakia). Laccornis kocae Ganglbauer, 1904, Helophorus micans Faldermann, 1835, and Helochares lividus (Forster, 1771) shared the same microhabitat and are other rare beetles of lowland wetlands.

he Lombok Snake-eyed Skink, Cryptoblepharus cursor Barbour, 1911 has been recorded in South Java prior to 1940. However, information on its population on the island are scarce. This study presents new records of C. cursor from Java. Visual Encounter Survey were conducted to observe habitat selections and collect skinks as voucher specimens. South Javan C. cursor are restricted to sandy littoral zones with Ipomoea pescaprae (L.) R.Br. – Spinifex littoreus (Burm.f.) Merr. whereas Lombok C. cursor are saxicolous, preferring rocky coasts. They also differ from the scansorial C. balinensis Barbour, 1911, a sympatric congener from Java.

R.Br. – Spinifex littoreus (Burm.f.) Merr. whereas Lombok C. cursor are saxicolous, preferring rocky coasts. They also differ from the scansorial C. balinensis Barbour, 1911, a sympatric congener from Java.","PeriodicalId":502581,"journal":{"name":"Check List","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141693831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diospyros barteri was recorded for the first time from Dodja, a sacred forest in the Commune of Abomey-Calavi, Benin. We provide a detailed description, illustration, habitat, ecology, flowering period, and population size of this species. These occurrences fill a gap in the distribution of the species in the Dahomey-Gap territory. Our new records show the importance of botanical surveys in sacred forests which are hotspots of biodiversity in the country. However, sacred forests are unfortunately poorly maintained and managed and are difficult to access because they serve as central sites for ceremonies of local divinities in vodun celebrations.
