The use of BIM in Croatia has not as yet been sufficiently investigated and, in that respect, this research aims to find out what is the current situation with BIM application in the Republic of Croatia. The results show that 20 to 25 percent of companies use BIM, 25 percent of designers use BIM software, while the use of BIM by other participants in the project is disturbingly low. Croatia has still not passed the basic zero level of BIM use, although positive trends of movement toward level one can be discerned. The authors call for urgent standardisation of BIM and appropriate adjustment of regulatory framework.

Traffic load models used for the design of new bridges are based on conservative assumptions and have not been proven efficient for assessing safety of existing bridges. In the case of existing bridges, it is reasonable to use load models that are based on bridge weigh-in-motion data which, in addition to axle loads and spacing of bridge-crossing vehicles, provide information on bridge behaviour under traffic load. This paper provides an overview of traffic load models, as well as guidelines on the use of weigh-in-motion data when assessing condition of existing road bridges.

Although fatigue damage has become one of the main causes of structural damage to bridges, standard vehicle models for highway bridge fatigue design have not as yet been determined in China. Relying on the WIM system, load data were collected for different types of vehicles from six provinces in Southeast China. The Miner’s criterion for cumulative fatigue damage, and the equivalent stress amplitude criterion, were adopted for calculating the equivalent axle load, the equivalent wheelbase, and the fatigue damage contribution ratio. The fatigue load spectrum, including five equivalent vehicle models, was identified.

The interaction between geogrid/wire fabric reinforcement and fill material in reinforced earth walls, as well as its quantification, is a complex problem that depends on a number of factors. This paper presents and discusses state of the art related to numerical simulations of pull-out tests used for investigation of interaction between cohesionless fill and reinforcement. In addition, the results of a specially designed group of numerical simulations are presented and compared with recommendations of American and European standards related to such experiments.
