ABSTRACT Progress in integrated photonics enables development of photonics integrated circuits (PIC) with new unique properties and overcomes current limits in information and communication technologies. The effective coupling of optical radiation between telecom optical fiber and photonic integrated circuits is necessary. To address these challenges, we present our concept of photonics integrated circuit (PIC) fully customized packaging with microwave, direct current, and fiber array ports with automated active alignment system. Automated adjustment and coupling of single-mode fiber (SMF) arrays with 8 fibers to PIC based on the detection of edges and markers on PIC and SMF arrays were successfully realized.

As in previous years, FOAN 2019 was the event where representatives from industry, academia, and regulatory organizations met with the primary goal of bringing and presenting their latest researches, challenges, and ideas. Emphasis was on applications in telecom services, in order to improve Quality of Service and accelerate the achievement of business goals. FOAN 2019 was a friendly and exciting event in the city of Sarajevo that covered three full days. Attendees came from 22 countries in Europe, Asia, India, and America. In these three days the attendees discussed a wide range of topics in relation to Access Networks. We had representatives from regional telecom leader companies, such as Telecom Slovenia, A1 Croatia, and BH Telecom. Duško Žutić from A1 Croatia, as a member of the A1 Telecom Austria Group, explained that A1 started their business in Croatia 20 years ago as a mobile provider. In the meantime, they recognized a need for their own fiber network and after two acquisitions evolved from a mobile into a converged operator, and now are building a fixed network. The new goal is 5G (Fifth Generation Wireless Cellular). The easiest and most costeffective way to reach this goal is to build one fiber network for two targets: Connecting the end customer via FTTH, and inter-connecting base transceiver stations (BTS) and microwave hubs. Matjaž Pogačnik from Telecom Slovenia presented their imposing regional optical network in the Western Balkan region and SEE (South East Europe). They believe it is the key strategic advantage of the Telekom Slovenia Group. The FTTH program of Telecom Slovenia is one of the first big rollouts in Europe. This project was in a crisis until 2016 when they changed their strategy from P2P to GPON. Matajaž also presented their Smart City pilot project in the small town of Novo Mesto and explained that Telekom Slovenia provides a whole Smart City solutions portfolio including Smart Parking, Smart Lighting, eMobility, Traffic Control, and Mobile air quality sensors. Elma Adanalić form BH Telecom presented the latest happenings in BH Telecom and explained that mixed technologies (P2P, GPON, and xDSL) are very desired features for telecom customers in Bosnia. In parallel, local and regional experts had very interesting discussions about telecom infrastructure in the Western Balkan region. Their focus was on how infrastructure regulations can accelerate investment and improve customer experience in the region. The regulations have to be devised quicker and issued in much more detail in areas with intensive construction of residential and business buildings. The pipes, fiber, or pair, then cable, and finely bitstream have to be further regulated and described in more details in order to help investors to ensure infrastructures for high-quality internet and other telecommunication services.

Integrated Photonic Filters in Support of Converged 5G Mobile Fronthaul & Midhaul Transport Layers 支持融合5G移动前传和中程传输层的集成光子滤波器

ABSTRACT A Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM)-enabled analog mobile fronthaul architecture is presented supporting enhanced flexibility by exploiting the fine filtering properties of a fully reconfigurable, silicon photonics-based filtering element. Numerical studies are presented emphasizing on the flexibility, low-energy consumption, and the compatibility of our proposed chip-scale implementations with the analog Radio over Fiber (RoF)-based mobile transport. Proof-of-concept analog photonic processing of 1 Gbaud Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK)-modulated radio is successfully demonstrated through RoF transmission experiments. The integration of the analog mobile fronthauling segment in a WDM-enabled, Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (ROADM)-assisted fronthaul/midhaul infrastructure supporting low-latency edge computing is also discussed.

Optical 8PSK Generation by Cascading Squared and Rectangular QPSK Using Microring Modulators 利用微环调制器级联方形和矩形QPSK产生光学8PSK

ABSTRACT We have proposed and successfully simulated a general design concept of an 8PSK generator using a silicon microring modulator. Usually, quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) is generated using in-phase/quadrature modulator in balanced condition or in un-balanced condition showing a square-shape and rectangular-shape constellation mapping in complex plane, respectively. By introducing 8 dB loss in the Q-arm of the first QPSK modulator, an unbalanced QPSK modulator has been generated. Thereby cascading both the QPSK modulators, an optical 8PSK has been synthesized.

ABSTRACT In this paper, we discuss in details information and communication developments (1) that have arisen in support of a rapidly expanding internet (Internet of Things, IoT) coupled with a proliferation of data centers; (2) the ensuing data rates explosion capable of reaching 800 Gb/s with coherent technology over a single wavelength; as well as (3) an increased connectivity through 5G transport networks.

Comparison of Self-Injection Locking of DFB-LD by Optical Fiber and Optical Waveguide Ring Resonators 光纤与光波导环形谐振器对DFB-LD自注入锁模的比较

ABSTRACT Utilizing the frequency selection characteristic of ring resonators, self-injection-locking linewidth narrowing and frequency stabilization of distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB-LDs) can be achieved under the aid of ring resonators. In this paper, the self-injection-locking effects of a DFB-LD realized by two fiber ring resonators and an optical waveguide ring resonator are compared. The influences of the resonant peak bandwidth and transmission on linewidth narrowing are demonstrated. It is shown that the mode hopping can be significantly suppressed by employing the optical waveguide ring resonator. This is of great significance for practical applications and integration of the self-injection-locked DFB-LDs.

ABSTRACT In this paper, we report a series of incremental optical coding and decoding sensors using their respective fiber Bragg grating superstructure (SS-FBG). We performed a comparative study of the encoding/decoding bipolar and unipolar sequences using these grids. The modulation in the refractive index can be changed by discrete jumps in phase (± π) or variations in the amplitude of the specific grid regions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of SS-FBG in autocorrelation and cross-correlation studies. This approach allows us to measure the quality of unipolar and bipolar coding and understand how the decoded signal can be affected by the presence of multiple users on the network. Each generated code is a Gold sequence for bipolar code 63chips and an M sequence for unipolar code 63chips. We use five different codes to represent the users, and we calculate through the signal/noise power ratio (SRNe) the energy used by a certain signal to interfere with a neighboring signal. Our results emphasize the accuracy and flexibility of Bragg gratings (FBG-SS) and showed that this technology is promising not only to Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) but also for an extended variety of other optical processing applications.

Simulation tool to check correctness of optical signatures detection 验证光签名检测正确性的仿真工具

The article presents a tool for generating and detecting optical signatures. The tool was implemented in the Matlab environment using the Matlab Simulink package. The publication contains a proposal to use the developed tool to study the impact of laser activation time, camera image resolution, frame rate as a result of optical signature detection. The obtained results proved that the developed tool successfully allows to research various methods of generating and detecting optical signatures. It also allows a quantitative assessment of the correctness of the detection process.

Identification of optical signatures for the augmented reality system 增强现实系统的光学特征识别

The article proposes a method that allows simultaneous identification of many optical signatures used for the optical control in augmented reality systems. Optical signatures are generated using appropriately coded laser pulse sequences. The developed method of identifying optical signatures allows to identify individual series of laser pulses and is based on the analysis of video sequence of images. This is an important enhancement in relation to the systems used to cooperate with objects in the augmented reality environment.

Application of evolutionary algorithm to optimization of DWDM networks 进化算法在DWDM网络优化中的应用

The subject of the study is an application of Integer Programming method and Evolutionary Algorithm to optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing network optimization. The main objective of the optimization is to minimize capital expenditure, which includes the costs of optical node resources, such as transponders and filters used in New Generation of Reconfigurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexers. For this purpose a model based on Integer Programming is proposed. The efficiency of the Integer Programming based software is compared with that of Evolutionary Algorithm. The results obtained show that there is an advantage in using EA for optimizing a large optical network when compared with Integer Programming. A realistic network of large dimension and traffic demand set was used in the numerical experiments.
