The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how historical and cultural commentary can affect the way we perceive and interpret art. In the article, the author argues that historical and cultural commentary on works included in the school curriculum is a crucial tool for fully understanding literary texts and developing skilled readers. The article provides an overview of published monographic comments, indicating a need to revive the practice of literary commentary as both a printed publication and a methodological technique. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, for the first time since the 1960s and 1980s, a detailed historical and cultural commentary has been conducted on a work from the school curriculum — A. A. Blok's "Night, Street, Lantern, Pharmacy, / Senseless and Dim Light...". This example illustrates the influence of historical and cultural commentary on the understanding and interpretation of the author's message. The article also explores how the everyday context of a work of art can impact our ability to adequately comprehend, psychologically accept, and spiritually develop the classical texts studied in school literature courses.

In order to prepare students for professional communication in the sphere of international relations, it is necessary to pay special attention to the formation of foreign language communicative competence, including teaching English Academic Writing in various written genres. The study describes the features of writing a survey report as a specific genre of Academic Writing in the English language and examines a number of stages involved in preparing and implementing the students’ project-work competition called “Best Survey Report on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” which is conducted in the second-year of study at the School of International Relations at MIGIMO University. The study demonstrates that it is advisable to use project-based learning to develop foreign language competence in English Academic Writing among Bachelor students at non-linguistic Universities with a humanities focus since it allowed not only to clarify the content of English Academic Writing in the genres of survey report but also, in general, increased the effectiveness of foreign language training in this educational environment.

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the possibilities of developing and using video tutorials in the process of organizing independent work of generation Z students in a non–linguistic university in the discipline "Foreign language". The article clarifies the concept of "independent work of a student" within the framework of his foreign language training at a university, defines the features of its organization in the digital educational space. The novelty of the article lies in clarifying the methodological and technical features of creating educational video materials, on the basis of which a series of video tutorials has been developed and tested in the process of organizing independent work of students in the discipline "Foreign language". As a result of an experiment conducted with first-year students of the Trekhgorny Institute of Technology studying in the specialty "Application and operation of automated special purpose systems", the effectiveness of using video tutorials as a modern way of developing students' independent work skills during their foreign language training was confirmed.

The study aims to present the taxonomy of extralinguistic knowledge, as wells as to analyze the units of selection and semantization of extralinguistic knowledge of foreign students at a polytechnic university when teaching Russian as a foreign language, which are found in scientific literature. In addition, the researchers justify the choice of the sociocultureme as the most suitable unit. The paper demonstrates verbal, non-verbal, meta-verbal and extra-verbal ways of expressing the sociocultureme in order to reveal its content and determine the extralinguistic knowledge that should be formed and evaluated by foreign students in the process of language training. The study is novel in that it is the first to provide a theoretical justification of the term “sociocultureme” as a way of semanticizing knowledge and to prove the effectiveness of using maps of socioculturemes to form extralinguistic knowledge of foreign students when teaching Russian as a foreign language at a polytechnic university. Maps of socioculturemes are understood to be tables developed for the multidimensional expression of the sociocultureme, the selection of materials for which is carried out taking into account their authenticity, extralinguistic value, compliance with a professionally oriented subject plan, relevance for sociocultural adaptation, the possibility of using the results of the project in real communication in Russian in specified areas. As a result of the study, it was found that the sociocultureme is a way of semanticizing extralinguistic knowledge, and maps of socioculturemes help to form extralinguistic knowledge among foreign students at a polytechnic university.

The proposed study aimed to theoretically confirm the possibility of using multimedia presentations in teaching foreign language vocabulary to primary school children. The paper considers the stages of formation of lexical skills and the types of exercises corresponding to them, defines the concept of multimedia educational presentation-visualization, highlights the criteria for the design of multimedia presentations for lessons in elementary school. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the developed algorithm for making presentations with exercises corresponding to the three stages of the formation of lexical skills, as well as selected multimedia functionality, which is advisable to use when creating presentations in elementary school. As a result of the conducted research, a series of multimedia presentations has been developed for the formation of foreign language lexical skills in primary school (for the 4th grade students).
