Introduction: Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. There are two forms of bladder cancer: non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and muscle invasive bladder cancer. A common treatment method for non- muscle invasive bladder cancer is intravesical BCG (Mycobaterium bovis) therapy after radical tumor resection. It is estimated that half of patients will have an insufficient response to BCG treatment. Patients using this type of therapy also report side effects more and more often. Aim of the study: The aim of this article is to discuss the latest discoveries in the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer when BCG therapy is insufficient. Material and Methods: The paper was created based on the PubMed and Scholar database. The literature was reviewed using the key words: „bladder cancer”; „BCG”; „treatment”; „side effects”; „novel therapies”. Results: The research shows that novel therapies are effective and safe compared to the use of BCG. In such patients, atezolizumab, metformin or intravesical magnesium sulfate infusions may be used as an alternative. An innovative solution is the use of HIVEC - heated chemotherapy administered intravesically. There are also drugs that potentiate the action of BCG, making the therapy more effective. These include: sasanlimab and rapamycin. Due to the side effects experienced by patients, the use of intravesical BCG is often replaced with intravesical infusions of chemotherapy drugs. Conclusion: The research shows that novel therapies are effective compared to the use of BCG. Unfortunately, more research is needed to standardize the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Introduction: The popularity of cosmetic treatments is increasing, including treatments using polydioxanone (PDO) threads. Among the various complications that PDO threads can cause are swelling, skin dimpling, paresthesia, thread visibility/palpability, infection, and thread extrusion. On the other hand, it is an alternative to surgical facelift. Purpose of work: To collect information on the complications after PDO threads for facial lifting. Summary: In the literature review, there were reported complications after PDO threads for facial lifting as edema, allergy, inflammation, infection, skin dimpling, contour irregularity, visible threads, hematoma, thread extrusion, and incomplete facial paralysis. Knowledge of complications after face lifting with PDO threads allows us to prepare for these side effects and act appropriately in the event of their occurrence, thus avoiding the long-term effects of the cosmetic procedure.

Introduction and Purpose: In last years gene modification technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 has had a revolutionary impact on the treatment of inherited diseases. Technologies developed from bacterial defense mechanisms, has become a basic tools in scientific research and medical therapies. In our article we provided an overview of applications of gene modifications technologies, directly focusing on CRISPR/Cas9, in genetic disease treatment. State of Knowledge: New applications of CRISPR/Cas9 are still being explored. Treating inherited diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, thalassemia, hemophilia, Huntington's disease, Crigler-Najjar syndrome, sickle cell anemia, Marfan syndrome, and phenylketonuria, is feasible with this novel technique. A comparative analysis with other gene editing methods highlights CRISPR/Cas9's efficacy, ease of use, and multiplexing capabilities. Summary: CRISPR/Cas9 is a groundbreaking technology with broad applications in genetic research and therapy. Its ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and ability to target multiple genes simultaneously position it as a preferred method. However, there are some challenges associated with precision issues and ethical considerations in human embryo gene editing. As CRISPR/Cas9 continues to evolve, responsible application and ethical considerations are important for maximizing its potential in treatment of genetic diseases.

This narrative review critically examines the utilization of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) in managing coexisting depression and heart failure (HF), integrating findings from various studies, clinical trials, and observational data. SSRIs, pivotal in treating mood and anxiety disorders by elevating synaptic serotonin levels, have been observed to potentially impact cardiovascular health. Specifically, SSRIs like sertraline show promise in enhancing endothelial function and exerting anti-inflammatory effects, which are beneficial in conditions like HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Furthermore, SSRIs demonstrate favorable outcomes in reducing platelet aggregation and modulating the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), suggesting a multifaceted role in HF management. However, their safety profile, particularly concerning bleeding risks, QTc prolongation, and drug interactions, necessitates careful consideration. Despite theoretical and molecular evidence supporting SSRIs' beneficial effects in HF, clinical data remain inconclusive, highlighting the need for further research. This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of SSRIs' effectiveness, safety, and potential benefits in treating depression and HF, offering insights for evidence-based decision-making and future research directions.

Glaucoma is a group of progressive neuropathies of the optic nerve leading to the destructionof retinal ganglion cells and their axons. It is the leading cause of irreversible blindnessworldwide, affecting over 70 million people residing in various geographical regions. Thisdisease ranks second among the causes of blindness in patients. Up to 40% of them lose theirvision within the first year of diagnosis.(1) The most common type of glaucoma affectingophthalmic patients is open-angle glaucoma, in which the iridocorneal angle is notpathologically altered, but there is an elevation of intraocular pressure due to abnormal fluidflow within the eye. The main cause of this disease is obstruction of aqueous humor outflowfrom the eye and its excessive production. Although the exact mechanism of glaucoma is notfully understood yet, several risk factors have been identified, including high intraocularpressure (IOP), age, and genetics. Materials and Methods: Review and summary of research studies available in open-sourceformat on Google Scholar, PubMed.Conclusions: There is ample evidence confirming the impact of food products on the risk ofdeveloping glaucoma or exacerbating its symptoms. However, further research is necessary todetermine the extent of their interference with this disease entity.

Introduction: Migraine remains one of the most prevalent chronic neurological conditions that significantly impacts the quality of life. The treatment aims to help with the symptoms and prevent further attacks. There are several pharmacological methods, but because of their side effects, sometimes lower-than-expected effectiveness, costs, and long-term dependency, non-pharmacological approaches have gained popularity. Review methods: We conducted our study as a literature review, with data gathered via PubMed and Embase. The state of knowledge: Managing migraine is hard to achieve based only on pharmacological therapy. Recently, the development of alternative approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acupuncture, or butterbur, has been observed. Many studies try to assess its effectiveness. Biofeedback is a promising treatment method, however, it is expensive and requires special equipment. Aerobic training is essential in the prevention and therapy of many illnesses and proper intensity can be helpful with migraines, while yoga is a great lower-intensity option. Conclusions: Alternative methods may be a great alternative or support in migraine management. However, there is still a need for standardized investigations to evaluate effectiveness and safety.

Introduction The rising prevalence of electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use has prompted concerns regarding its potential health implications. While much attention has focused on respiratory and cardiovascular effects, injuries, oral trauma, and bone fractures linked to e-cigarette use have received less scrutiny. This paper aims to comprehensively review the landscape of injuries, oral trauma, and bone fractures induced by e-cigarettes, shedding light on this underexplored facet of e-cigarette-related harm. Material and Methods This literature review has analyzed 16 papers. Inclusion criteria: researches and case reports published after 2015. PubMed and Google Scholar has been searched to identify the papers. Analysis of the Literature Existing literature suggests a growing incidence of injuries, oral trauma, and bone fractures associated with e-cigarette use, albeit with limited systematic investigation. Mechanisms underlying these injuries range from device malfunctions to inadvertent impacts during use. Case reports highlight a spectrum of injuries, including oral burns, dental trauma, and skeletal fractures, often involving the face and mouth regions. Conclusions Despite the lack of comprehensive epidemiological data emerging evidence underscores the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures to mitigate e-cigarette-related injuries. Enhanced education, regulation of e-cigarette devices, and promotion of safer usage practices are crucial steps towards reducing the burden of e-cigarette-related harm on oral and skeletal health.
